  1. Nerwen, thanks for the name help. the littlest one is a surprise. She still sleeps in there with her mother, who has 5 eggs to sit on. Angel was out showing the little on (I need another name here - (Laughing out loud)) how to eat and drink today. it was good to see Angel out getting some food
  2. looking again today, I think they are all boys. Daddy is just a little toey with mum not coming out, so he is going whatever wants food from him - (Laughing out loud). names are as follows Nibbler is the sky blue hercules is the golden faced teal/seafoam the cobalt I am yet to name, but I think I might go with mercury as he runs fast around the cage floor when nibbler is chasing him. ties in with the Zeus theme and i like the name. He can fly, just runs fast when he wants to - (Laughing out loud)
  3. Well, talk about throwing a curve ball into the mix. So far this pair of what was thought to be a grey-green spangle and an albino have produced Independence - a yellow faced mauve Tralia - a green/mauve spangle - not sure on her colour, but not grey green, mauve/green seems the most likely ________ - a pied. Is it possible that the two youngest are diluted? There colours seem to be "washed out" somewhat. Interesting to see what the remaining eggs bring. Shame they can never breed again due to Ozzy's escape, but his progeny live on
  4. My hen is a fallow. I am not sure what she carries. the Fallow gene is recessive, so that means that she must have 2 fallow genes right? can a fallow carry other genes?
  5. Well, none of the young are the same colour as Dad. All the young had turned in bu this one, so I thought it was a good comparison shot - group shots scheduled for tomorrow.
  6. Some updated pics The boys ( well i thought they were all boys, but then Daddy tried to ride one of them - not impressed) and the family (except Mum who is in the nest box sitting on new eggs)
  7. As requested, new pics. Here you can see that she has the faintest lines on her head, and she is almost like a creamino, but look at the patches near her legs or dark olive green and the patch on her rump. Now I know that ino's can mask things, but could she mask pied? Could Dad have had pied in him? Thoughts? Also the other two from this nest Independence and ________ (still looking for a name - something after her father Ozzy who flew away)
  8. Well, Sebby was getting over aggressive to the little ones, so she has been seperated. Probably a good thing too for her to build her strength back up before she goers back in the aviary. i will try to get soem new photos. Dad is a sky blue normal, but chicks are all cobalt, one femal is opaline so dad is split opaline, and 2 are cinnamons, so Dad is split there right?
  9. i am very interested to see what you all say about the youngest one. you would think that she is a spangle, with really light wing markings, but when you looks at her, she has hardly any olive green on her body, except for on her rump, where she is olive green. i would swear that if i knew no better, i woudl say she is a olive green pied, but she came from a olive green spangle father and an ino mother. I will get a photo so you can see what I am talking about.
  10. Hard to do when i am not there, but when I am, it is open. Scared of cats coming it, but hopefully dogs behind the fence will scare them off
  11. Thanks daz. I was wondering whether i should wash him. Good advice - as awlays
  12. he is good, eating as normal and flying around the aviary. But then, although bloodied, he was always like that
  13. Not been a good day. I just went out and checked on my aviary, and one of my birs has a bloodied wing. I checked all the others and there is no blood, so it does not look like a fight. It looks like a flight feather has been coming out and he has pulled at in and got all bloodied. Looks worse as he is a recessive pied, and his wings are really white. he is eating and flying well. i got him out of the aviary and looked at wing, made me even think that he may be a she when i looked at the cere, but he seems aright. With Ozzy escaping i am not having a good day
  14. Things were going well until Ozzy escaped - flying out the garage door off ino the big blue. i am actually quite depressed about it. Sad day for me, and for his family. I pray he will come back, but I am not hopeful. I will seperate Angel from her eggs over the weekend. i was thinkig of doing it anyway, however without a father to feed the young, no choice really.
  15. I hope you find your little one. I feel your pain very much at the moment. I was about to hop in my car to leave this morning and I heard a chirping coming from somewhere where there should be no chirping. I looked up and there was Ozzy sitting in my garage. The double automatic door was open. I looked at the cae and the cage door was open. I slowly reached for a remote , and began to close the door. it got halfway down where Ozzy took off and flew out. He was off, flying into the distance, leaving his partner angel sitting on 4 eggs, with no one to feed her, and one older young one still in the nestbox. Very sad. I looked for him, and really do hop he returns, but I have my doubts. Too many eucalypt distraction around.
  16. Cool. thougth so - I am going to need some
  17. Thanks, Nerwen, they are so cute in that photo. I stuffed up too. hercules is the one that looks just liek Dad. In fact, I wishe I had of put rings on them so I can tell them apart. Could I still put a split ring on or something like that?
  18. Little Independence is doing well so far. She is getting in and eating seed, although she will get more spinach on the weekend, but so far, she has yet to partake in it. As for the other 2 in Angel's nestbox, I find it strange that she has not kicked them out. Perhaps it is more Dad that thinks they should not be in there as Mum has layed more eggs, but Dad thinks that they are old enough to be out on their own. The two others do not venture out, but stay with Mum and the 4 eggs inside. I check on them to make sure they are fine and feeding well, and all appears good. All the sqwarkers are form one nest box, so three little girls. Another nest box has all boys, as in three males. The last nest box looks to have both bosy and girls. Funny how that works out.
  19. My first topic I started added to the FAQ!! I feel like I finally made it - (Laughing out loud)!!1
  20. But there Dad is a YF Blue Type II. Could that matter?
  21. A few more shots taken as i went out to cover up the breeding cages for the night. Interesting colours in their tails. Not the traditional dark blue, or even black. It is more a seafoam green, like their dad, but darker. Is this normal? Why would they be like this? Ideas? So they are Nibbler (sky blue) and Hercules (Cobalt)
  22. I went out to cover the breeding cages up and it seems the very little one I was wondering how I was going to get out of the nestbox to get a photo of had done me the service of jumping out and preparing for a shot. So here we have her... I am guessing her, with her brother(?) huddling, then on her own. I love the cinnamon wings. I need another heavenly name, though I am not sure if it is going to be a boy or girl. I think girl.
  23. okay, still working on names and genders. I know that the only one so far that has definitely been named is my little opaline cinnamon wing girl. I am calling her Kealani. It is a Hawaiian name and it means Clear heaven or white heaven. I think it suits her as I look at her and think she is a heavenly looking bird. Any thoughts on the others? I am still trying to get a picture of the little cinnamon wing.
  24. Grace is Latin meaning Goodwill. I am not sure that is her. I think i will stick with Independence as it seems to suit her, and i will call her Pen or Penni for short. Not sure about the other 2. they are still in the nest box, they do not even venture out. Mum seems happy to have them in there with her. hate how she is playing favourites!!!
  25. okay, It has been 3 days now since I seperated the little one, and she is going well. She has eaten some seed, though she does not appear too big on greens just yet. I am happy with how she is going. Here are some pics of what she looks like now. She likes to go into an attached nest box when she is scared, and she loves to sqwark, but she seems well. I am pretty sure she is a she, but any thoughts on that would be appreciated. I am thinking of names, and since she is on her own, and has been doing well, I am thinking a good name for her would be Independance. Thoughts?
