  1. The youngest looks to have black pin feathers coming through on the wings, so I say that he/she is going to be like the vast majority of her older siblings - -blue with black wings.
  2. Well, twice now I have had to put one little one back into a nest box. I am thinking of a name that will suit this little one, based upon this. I remember Kaz used Kamikaze once, and the poor little fellow passed away. Out of respect I am avoiding that, but I am thinking Bungee or something like that. Not sure. Any ideas would be good. Just noticed today that the youngest one has yellow face feathers, so we in this nest box we have 1 sky blue, one cobalt blue, and one yellow faced blue. They are all very cute!!
  3. okay, will do Elly. By The Way, I was topping up some seed today and there was a lot of noise coming form one cage - as I looked in there i saw why. One little one had decided to explore the bottom of the cage by jumping from the nest box. I picked the little one up and returned it, after which Daddy scurried into the nest box to have a stern chat with the little one - (Laughing out loud).
  4. Milly and Zeus have done a wonderful job raising these two so far. You are right Elly, they are very cute. they are looking for the chance to try to excape at every possible chance that they can.
  5. it is a little hard to tell the colouring on the youngest one at the moment, but I am hoping it is also a pale one
  6. okay, Some quick shots. You can see her cinnamon wings and her dilute colour. I love the colour, and when you compare her to her kin, she is defintely very different.
  7. okay, Rushing off to State of Origin but I took some new pics. They are advneturous, kept trying to escape, thus my hand in so many shots - (Laughing out loud) Interesting to note the different blues
  8. okay, I am rushing off to the state of origin, got free tickets at school, but i took some pics. definitely 2 grey-green spangles, and a dark dark dark green. New pics below. All very cute
  9. I think that the 3rd chick looks just liek the second did at that age, so it would not surprise me if they were both grey-green spangles. Dad is a grey-green spangle, so they are following suit.
  10. They are definitely grey-green spangles, maybe olive, not sure. One is starting to show the colours, and you can see the colours there in the tail. The other is soon to follow. Pics to come soon.
  11. The are really starting to colour up now. The little girl looks amazing. i took her out and looked at her tonight. I am not sure about the opaline, however she is definitely a cinnamon wing. Her blue is diluted a great deal. She is going to be a very pretty bird. I will get some pics soon.
  12. Funny story with Hugo. Growing up I had birds at my Dad's place, and my mother never was into birds (parents were split up). Anyway, since I got the aviary, every family member has wanted some input. My mother started ringing up to check on the birds, not me - (Laughing out loud). One day she called me from a hooby market she was at, saying she had just seen an amazing bird and she loved it. I explained it was not a good time to buy it then, and so she did not. We went back a month later and she bought and then named Hugo. When she comes over she talks to him. I use the budgies with my nephews (7 and 4) to get them to eat their dinner. We play games like "one spoon, and then you can guess the name and colour of one budgie". Works well as there are 12 budgies. My sister and her boys dropped in the other day just to see the babies. My budgies have become a family affair, and Hugo is the best example of it. I agree with you though Elly - he is a beautiful bird.

Every week i go for a walk around my area looking for fresh gum tress branches. Today I actually cleaned out my aviary of all older branches and put in new branches. The birds love it. They love to chew the leaves, they love to chew the branches, and they love to hide in amongst the branches and leaves. I would add fresh branches every chance I get if I could
  14. My breeders have Calcivet in their water. If they have Calcivet in their water, they are getting vitamin A and Vitamin D3. This is in addition to their seed, carrots, spinach and corn. Would they still need Cod Liver Oil?

Welcome Misso. This is a great palce to get info and to learn. Hope to see some pics up soon of your aviaries and your flocks.
  16. I am dying to find a peppermint tree, but then after that thread a while ago about giving the birds non-native plants that were toxic, I am not sure i want to risk giving them a branch on the theory it might be right
  17. And yet when you compare it to the others in the nest, it is very different.
  18. Great looking birds. Can I ask how much each cost as I am looking at going to a bird auction and I have no idea what prices are being asked for what.
  19. Oops - meant greywing, not cinnamon.
  20. It has been a while since I added any new pics. My breeding pairs are getting all the shots, so I thought after cleaning out the aviary, and adding new branches (the only good thing about Sydney's recent weather), I took some photos to showcase my little ones. First are some pics of the aviary to show the set up. As you can see, plenty of new leaves and vegetables were added today. As for the birds, Juliet Hugo - the youngest member in the aviary Sunshine - refusing to look pretty for a photo Sherbert - an absolute stunner Humphrey - the king of the aviary and Brewster - the latest addition (who is curretnly trialling for the position of Queen)
  21. Big clean out day, so new pics for all birds. All are coming along nicely. I was a little concerned about the youngest, but he is being few well and is growing rapidly. Feathers - a few good bum shots to keep you happy - (Laughing out loud). Last 2 shots are of opaline little girl. She even posed in the last one on her own to give us a view of her wings. Model material there, for sure. Just looking at those pics again, do opalines not have the normal looking tail to non-opalines? Well, the last 2 pics indicate she does not. there is no blue visible at all. If she came from a pair of blues i would wonder what was going on, but when you remember her mother is a fallow, might she be something else?
  22. Big cleaning day for all bird, aviary and breeding boxes. This also means photo day, so hoping everyone is very presentable. Here are the latest baby pics. All are feathering up nicely. One green normal, and just how cute is she? That picture with her head looking over the container, very very cute. And two lutinos? Or spangles? Not sure. they do appear to have a dark marking on their backs under the feathers coming through. Is that normal for lutinos? Eyes look black as well.
  23. Cleaning out the birds today, that is the aviary, the breeding cages and the breeding boxes. I decided to take some pics. This is the first time I have had these little ones out of the nest box. I have to say they sure are curiousa curious lot. It was hard keeping them in the container they were sitting in. As you can see, their blue is starting to come through. I am not sure if you can tell by looking at that last shot, but it seems that although they are all blues, there might be some degree of colour variation in their brightness. There appears to be some blue appearing in the wings, and they are definitely not opalines, and the middle one may in fact be more like their mother than we first thought. She is a cinnamon wing, but very slight. Not strong at all, to the extent that in some pics, it does not even look like it. That is why her colour is slightly diffused(in real life, not in pics). Look at the wings of the middle baby in the 2nd picture, and compare it to the wings of the baby on its right. Definitley some difference there.
  24. I know they will be blue based birds, but their Dad Zeus has a yellow face and the yellow is washed throughout his blue body, so he appears to be that seafoam green. None of them look like being yellow-faced, so no wash out.
