Breeding Early 2008.... With Updates
It is exciting. Still a bit upset over the loss of the 2 little ones in Milly's nestbox. Sad losing them before they even really had a chance.

Breeding Early 2008.... With Updates
Milly's last 2 look good. I am glad i put the spinach in there, I think they need it. the look healthy, no apparent air in their crops, all looks good, they are growing bigger and stronger. Sebby's 5 are going strong. They look well fed and eyes are opening and they are lookign around. Almost time to add more shavings to the nest box, jsut don't want the littlest one to get lost yet. Angel's possible big day is tomorrow. So anyone, any chance of red eyes? Tralia is always inside. Came out for some spinach and a quick run around, but she is nesting well. Nibbler sits patiently outside. Good hubby now he has given up the affair with the cage front

Breeding Early 2008.... With Updates
Milly lost 2 of the 4 eggs so far that have hatched, though one never made it out of the shell so i do nto count that, and the chick that died must have had a problem. Sebby now has 5 little ones. I hope no more hatch in there. i would foster some out to milly, but wih the way that she has lost one, I am not willing to take that risk. Angel and hugo's first should hatch tomorrow. Since Angel is an albino, and Hugo a DF dom pied, is it possible to get albino offspring? hens? Tralia - nesting well, but no young for almost a week at the earliest

one hatched, but died in the shell. Did not even emerge. it is liek the shell broke in half, rather than hatched. it might have even died in the shell and milly was looking. Not sure. Milly did polish off all the millet

Air In Crop Of Baby
I have abandoned what I thought was right and have returned to tested and confirmed methods. Veges are back on the menu, and the birds, and I am loving it.

Breeding Early 2008.... With Updates
Little one with air in the crop died sometime today, maybe this morning. Was blue and wella nd truly stiffened by the time i came home very little i could do. Might have had a deficiency in its crop from the looks of things. Leave Milly with only 2 now.

Air In Crop Of Baby
Yes, the get both the little one did not make it died some time today when i came home, it was dead, and had shriveled up a bit, so may have died overnight Milly was sitting on it, but there was no coming back. body had changed colour and all. Looking at its crop, it did look like it had some form of impairment in its crop, maybe a soft wall, or a hole that let air in. Is that possible?

Breeding Early 2008.... With Updates
Thanks Kaz, reassuring. You are right there deb. if they all hatch then there are going to be heaps of babies, and whilst I know one person who wants one, and I plan on keeping some, you might end up getting a few. They do grow so quick.

Breeding Early 2008.... With Updates
I have taken some new photos so people can see the developments. I had to use a small piece of wood to move Milly, Angel and Tralia out of thier nest boxes. Angel and Tralia were very aggressive. Milly was reluctant as she has been going in and out all day due to me checking on air in the crops of her little ones. it is all explained in the following link: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....c=18327&hl= Anyway, here is todays update. Milly and Humprhey have 3 little ones, and I will be suprised if anymore hatch. We will see. Sebby and Cheese have 4 little ones, and it will not suprise me if more hatch. Angel and Hugo now have a staggering 7 eggs. the first egg is due to hatch on the 5/3, so that is wednesday, so we will see what happens there Tralia and Nibbler now have 5 eggs. A slow start but they are coming home strong. Their first is due to hatch on the 10/3, so monday week. All is looking positive in some ways, but the air in the crops seems bad. it is funny, last time I bred, I think I did not look in as much. Mybe I am stressing them too much by my own stressing. I am sure that they will be alright. Maybe I need to step back. Like Norm on here says, let nature run its course.

Air In Crop Of Baby
okay, daily progress report. The little ones all have food in their cops, but they also have air. At least twice a day I am squeezing air out of their crops. I figure this will fix itself with time. I mean, at the moment, feeding is more of an instinctual thing, so when they can actually see what they are doing, they will be alright. It is not affecting their growth. Milly has some millet in there, humphrey has soft food mixed with seed. Should i leave a normal seed bell in there? They also have fresh corn on the cob. We will see how things go.

Cracked Eggs
This is the problem you face with colony breeding. One bird lays eggs and another gets in there and smashed them. You have two choices - leave them there and hooe for the best, or move them and the breeding pair to an individual breeding cabinet. You should know that if you move the eggs, the henmight not go back to sitting on them

Air In Crop Of Baby
Good idea. I need to go get some but i will do that now

Air In Crop Of Baby
What is F10sc? I soaked some seed like you suggested Daz, and put the egg and biscuit in there. Thsi morning, i picked all the babies up and examined them, I removed some air from 2 of the 3, and then when i checked them an hour later, they all had full crops. I was a little concerned that Dad is splitting seed, but not really digesting too much. there is a lot of husk, but I am not sure what he is actually eating. So anyway, with this soft food, hopefully all will be good. personally, I love Humphrey, but I am not sure he is the greatest feeder of his hen. Milly is such a committed mother, I am not sure she would move out and get food, as it would mean leaving the chicks. When I want to see the chicks, i have to push her to get her to leave, even then she is reluctant.

Thanks Daz. I never knew how to do this.

Air In Crop Of Baby
Seems to be successful. Milly is on her 3rd clutch, so i am not sure why this is occurring. I have given them new seed, and tomorrow i will give them some soft food. Maybe some egg and biscuit will help. How runny should the egg and biscuit mix be? i am assuming it should not be dry

Air In Crop Of Baby
I was checking in on the little ones this afternoon when I noticed that one litte one had what seemed to be a crop full of air. here is a picture. Is there anything i can do? Is it likely to be a problem? Will it fix itself or does thsi little one have a life sentence? All help is appreciated!!!

Can We Get Blue Yf Offsprings From Normal Pairing
it is the not knowing the background of the parents that can make things exciting for the average breeder - but maybe frustrating for the show breeder - (Laughing out loud)!!!!1

Can We Get Blue Yf Offsprings From Normal Pairing
It is possible, but you need to have certain hidden characteristics in the parents. Number one, you need for the normal appearing green to be split to blue. If this bird is split to blue, then it is possible, otherwise there is no hope at all. Number two, you need for one of your birds to have the yellow face gene. It is possible that the blue bir could possible have a double doage of this gene, thus aappearing to have a white face, but this seem highly unlikely. It is also possible that you Green bird carries, even displays the yellow face gene, but once again, unlikely. Ultimately, it is possible, but rather unlikely that you will get a YF from a normal blue and a normal green.
