  1. Just when i thought none of those little eggs were going to hatcho ne did! It must have been the last egg in the clutch or maybe the second last. So I am the proud mum of one tiny jelly bean! Picture to come soon as the storms stop:)
  2. Yes I have tried these pairs at different times. I don't believe age to be a problem in these case. But ihavent tried trimming htem yet that might besomething worth a try next. Thanks for the ideas
  3. okay will do... I only have a relatively small set up. avairy about 2m wide and maybe 1.5long but in hexagon shape with safety door. I have the door to the outside covered with clear plastic to keep out the wind and rain. I have two breeding cages hanging one ontop of the other in the safety door area. Nest boxes are standard size with the box outside the cage and the entraance facing away from me[towards the back} so the hens feel safe to go in them. They can hear the other birds in the avairy but not see them. They get fresh seed and water everyday and calcium supliment aswell as chopped up fresh food mixed with boiled eggs about 2 or 3 times a week. The nests are checked once a day when there are eggs, will be twice a day should any of them ever hatch any help is appreciated! I was wondering if i would have more luck indoors? I prefer to keep them outside more natural but is it unnatural to expect them to lay in winter? cheers Meg
  4. Please tell me that eggs hatch later in winter??? Since i started breedinglate last year i have had 25 of 27 eggs infertile or dead in shell. Three of six pairs that did not lay after five-six weeks together. My lastest attempt at breeding my eggs are up to day 21 and counting with none hatched yet! Oh dearly me! I think it must be time to reconsider my set up! back to the drawing board...... :book:

    wow what a beauty!
  6. Wow Kabel what an adventure! I can just imagine you jumping fences in a single bound bird net in toe:) Glad you got him back in one piece.
  7. aww that is a gorgeous idea Kaz I love it.
  8. Many people on here seem to be breeding budgies in fairly large numbers. When your keeping large amounts of animals there is also going to be a fair bit of death. I was wondering what everyone does with the bodies of the birds they have lost? When I was breeding and showing guinea pigs we had a fairly large stud with lots of births and deaths each year. My mother [being a farmer] used to just put them in a box then in the bin. I found it shocking when i was younger but i soon understood that if we didn't dispose of them our entire backyard would become a guinea pigs grave yard. Having just recently lost my first budgie[RIP Rocko] This is a subject that has been on my mind. Thanks for your thoughts
  9. I have one budgie with a feather problem he doesn't fly too well. The first time it rained this year he got wet and then couldn't fly at all. I found him sitting in a puddle looking allot like squirt. Thankfully a bit of drying off and warming up and he is good as gold. I keep a keen eye on him now:)
  10. Thanks Karen Ill do that
  11. Good Evening fellow budgie peoples I thought that today was a good day to make it known that I am in the market for breeding cages[ you know the sort with three sides closed in] and a hospital cage. Second hand is wonderful. But good condition of course. So if anyone is in the process of updating or downsizing and finds themselves with extras of these I would be glad to buy them from you. WA is preffered. Cheers All
  12. great photos Paul I just love those little creaminos you have inspired me. I'm going to pair my lutino and creamino later in the year
  13. great birds feathers. I'm glad we are getting some more clear wings over they are some of my favourties.
  14. Hey Michelle I have found in my very limited experience that feathers is exactly right. But make sure you do put some nesting materials back in later because i think the slippery floor could contribute to splay legs in the chicks later on. good luck Bugin
  15. I was wondering what people on here thought about pulling the feathers of show birds to create the clear spots. Is this something that is done with every mutation of budgie or is it only nessary in some types. Also how much pain and distress does this cause the birds? And what would happen if you entered a bird with unclear spots? Cheers Meg
  16. Really fallow you reckon? I'd have never picked that. I was thinking along the lines of diulte violet?? Yes the eyes are red. There is no violet in the wings just underthem on the rump. the wings are white and cinamon The show was pretty good. Nice display. I didn't go to buy birds either but you know how it is when you spot a great one. They didn't have allot of budgies. But the ones they had really showed me the huge difference between pet and show budgies. ohhh yes you guys were right!! She is a fallow! thanks heaps for sorting that out
  17. thanks thats exactly what i was looking fro thanks heaps !
  18. Hello all. I have been wondering exactly what is the difference between a fallow and a texas clearbody. I have only seen yellow fallows and white texas clearbodies. can you get the in different coulours?? Thanks to anyone who can head me in the rigth direction Cheers Meg
  19. I got a new budgie today from an avian show in cannington. She is a beautiful lady but i can't seem to work out what sort of mutation she is. She has red eyes, violet rump, cinnamon wings with normal markings and her tummy and chest are a very very pale violet i thought it was a grey to start with but definately violet. I've taken some photos but i must say they don't do my beautiful girl justice. And now shes off to quarantine. http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/meggidee/princess4.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/meggidee/princess2.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/meggidee/princess1.jpg http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l17/meggidee/princess.jpg Any help would be great. Cheers Meg hmm having trouble witht he picture! I hope you can see them.
  20. ohh yes bungee cords billiant! Thanks guys I taught her to come when i called because she used to sit p on the curtain rail and i got sick of climbing up there after her. Well worth the effort of teaching that tho. I may attempt the same with my future chicks!
  21. Good plan. I looked into that before but didn't have much luck finding the right sized spings.. but now i have some more motivation to have a better llok around.
  22. I read about you birds Kaz I'm so sorry some beautiful babes lost:(
  23. Today I learnt an important lesson. Don't trust ANYONE in the avairy. Lastnight my brother was the last to check the birds. He only shut the safety door and not the door to the outside. Unknown to him there was abirdie in the safety door area with him. My little Jak Jak was flew away. Thankfully i found her this afternoon sitting on our back fence. I once taught her to come when i call. And so i tried it and she came ot me HURRAY!!! She is tired and hungary but seems okay. What a big adventure out int he wild for a whole night I am so very very lucky! I can't believe my brother would just leave the door open! He is henceforth band from the avairy and all other bird things. : I'm so pleased Jak-Jak is home! must be my lucky day! cheers Meg
  24. Oh Kaz I'm so sorry. Your beautiful birds!!! :fear
  25. Hi DAve IT is illegal to catch them. ButI am lucky enough to live across the road from a reserve and the same group of birds[white cockies black cockies, corellas] come by and sit opposite my house. There is no need to catch them. you can enjoy them everyday while they are free.
