  1. hahah thats great! I was so pleased to have just four birds at the greens at once!I will persist!
  2. I keep birds because i love them and it gives me something to look forward to every day. And breeding just adds that extra bit of excitment. I breed obviously for selfish reason for my own enjoyment. But regardless of what I would like their health and happiness always comes first.
  3. I love your chickens! I have a duck! HE is hormonal right now. HE shows off to me. And If I reject his advances i get bit! But its all okay because i just put him under a large washing basket while i do his food then i don't get bit hahaha. I've been told his hormonal phase will pass and i will get my nice little duckie back soon.
  4. Thats okay thanks for the reply anyway. I've been searching for info on it all afternoon and I found a few other breeders who have had a lot of sucess with this product. I'll try and find a good link... Well i found alittle bit of info on it incase anyone is interested http://www.ladygouldianfinch.com/features_...oidalsilver.mgi
  5. Has anyone ever tried or heard of anyone giving colloidal silver to their birds? I used to give it too the guinea pigs, rats, rabbits with amazing results and I have even taken it my self plently of times. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was safe for birds? cheers Meg
  6. Ohhh look at all those birdies!! How do you find homes for them all? I love the little cinn. in the bottom photo.
  7. Well I'm home everyday so i keep a very close eye on them. Anyone that has less then perfect health or age against them come inside. I go out every half hour to check them and they get misted with water. they are also under a huge tree so the temp in the avairy with shade and water is about 7c less and this seems to be enough at moment. But I am looking at a few alterations to help witht he heat next year .
  8. hahaha...actually I was going to pair her up in the coming months but I have limited space so she isn't being bred this season. If you like you could borrow her for a few months.....and maybe i could have one of her chicks too??
  9. Oh you are so lucky Karen. I especially love hte bub in the last picture...
  10. What a beautiful pair. Budgie love is so sweet to see. I don't know very much about the genetic side but i wouldn't be expecting spangles from those two.
  11. Well Perth is shockingly hot at the moment. It was 37c and 10.30 today. Yuck! Wheather man says it should get to 42c for the second day in a row. Here are some pics of my budgies enjoying the cool morning before the heat hit. The oldest youngest and sickest birds have all been bought in out of the heat already. I only wish i could bring them all inside. we have a large avairy but obviously th ecool people hang out in this corner budgie love whoa what a whopper! no more pics please its getting too hot
  12. My albino hen laid two infertile clutches at the end of last year. Half way thru the seond one she got ill. She is better and backin the avairy but in Feb she laid another clutch on the avairy floor all the eggs were broken. And now she has started laying a fourth time. I have no nesting boxes or approiate nesting places to try and discourage her. I don't want her to lay she needs a rest. These eggs are most likely infertile. If I allow her to nest an raise young will she get over laying? This continued laying must be wearing her out. I don't want to separate her from the main flock unless i have to to solve the problem. Any ideas to stop her laying? or should i let her lay? What would be best for her health in the long run? Meg
  13. Thanks CheekyChucky I have smaller cages and he is inside with me keeping a close eye on him now. I'm happy for him to stay in with me if thats best for him. cheers
  14. Once Franklyn went into the avairy I noticed that he could not fly upwards. HE can only fly straight across and down. And once he gets on the floor he has to climb back up to the top. I also noticed that Franklyn started to bleed from his wings wheneveer he did allot of flying. So I caught him up and after a bit of a clean up I could see clearer what is going on. His first flight feather on either side has two feathers growing from the one place. The feather on the top side is short but fully formed while the feather on the underside is just a pin feather and is obvioulsy the sorce of the bleeding. It is fully cloted now. It has been suggested to me that since he is fairly calm around people the best thing to do might be to clip his other flight feathers to stop him flying and starting the bleeding all the time. This is the first time I have seen this in my birds. So Franklyn is being separated and carefully watched for now. Anyone had any experience with this or any advice?[other then the obvious take him to the vet?] Meg this is my beautiful boy cheers
  15. AuntyBugin replied to a post in a topic in What Sex Is My Budgie?
I have been wrong about this before but my guess is male and female beautiful bub by the way. you must be very happy.
  16. I just saw and article in the Burks Backyard magazine about an avairy. They had painted this avairy black. And that make you see less of the bars and more of the birds! The man kept finches in his avairy. Iw as wondering if anyone had done this and if it was okay for budgies? would they chew the paint off again? And is there a budgie safe paint? Any ideas?
  17. [i'll take some more pics of meredith tomorrow for you
  18. Well my first little chicks are all grown up! They can fly and crack seed for them selves! Here they were And here they are now I am a very proud mum. I also have a few new additions... just can't resist those gorgeous faces... Here isFranklyn [ opaline, spangle, dom. pied dark green male] This is Meridith [yellow face grey] And this is Oliver. My frist Olive budgie.
  19. This is my Dani-girl. Her beak is over grown. do i need to clip it? and how would i do that? Or does she need different thing sto encpurage her to chew??
  20. Oh yes i just worked out they must btoht be split for blue today. hahaha. Well now I'll know for next time. Duckie is a muscovy. He is 12weeks old. and still growing! HE keeps the cats away from the avairy.
  21. Here are some photo's ofmy very first chicks! The older one is three weeks old today and the younger one is 19days. They are named Cereal and Dankie. I think Cereal is a dominant pied opaline clear flight light green just like dad. Dankie appears to be an opaline also and maybe a sky blue?? i didn't htink that was possible from these parents but that is the colour showing threw so far. Look to the left Look to the right Now show us some wings Beautiful Darlings Here are the proud parents And here are another couple who are currently separated from the flock they appeared to have some kind of vomiting thing but I am very very relieved to say that both are looking well again. [although still alittle under weight] And here is my duck.... After some very good advice Duckie now lives very happily on the outside of the avairy.
  22. WEll that certainly sounds simple enough to set up. Thankx bubbles. I'll definately do that.
  23. There has been a bit of talk about finding 'good' homes for your birds. I am not looking to sell any of my birds but i might a few years down the track. Could someone let me know how you go about finding 'good homes' for your birds as opposed to pet shops??
  24. Jak-Jak is so much better today. She is brighter and jumping around the cage and talking and eating. Do I still need to take her to the vet today?
  25. well she doesn't have a pooey bottom at all.... I'll get her to a vet asap. But in the mean time... Is it airborne and contagious. Or can i leave in her separate cage outside the avairy with no physical contact. She is already stressed because i took the eggs away. I didn't want to also take her away from the other birds. Her partner calls for her when I tried to move her before
