  1. Congrats on your bubs, Kerrie.
  2. What a star... way to go Chucky. I am pleased that it went well
  3. My budgies are absolutely toy mad. Anything that even remotely looks like a toy is well loved. I have a lot and I rotate them every 2 weeks when I re-arrange their cages. Everything from the plastic hanging balls and olympic rings to a new wooden toy called a kladder that I got from 'The Painted Parrot' http://www.thepaintedparrot.com.au/Toys%20Home.htm The favorite toy of all at the moment is a half chewed wooden ladder that hangs by one side from the top of the cage, so it swings like mad and turns around when a bird is on it. I haven't found a toy or swing or perch that they don't like yet. I think changing them all the time stops them from being scared of anything new in their cages and stops them from getting bored with their toys.
  4. Then its funny that the foster parents are both recessive pieds. But this baby is definitely Goliaths baby. :hap: It's just trying to fit in
  5. Now that's a lot of wet birds!
  6. I'll second that, Kali... I can wait to see what she will grow into with her first moult. So pretty.
  7. Goodness, Sloth looks fierce, did he get that name for a reason? Such beautiful birds you have, they are all so lovely, Mickey and Sherbet are real cuties, and I just love the look of Elvis too.
  8. Wow, thankyou for that. I have one ditute baby and I was wondering what I needed to pair him to, to get more dilutes. Genetics was just about my favourite science way back when I was in high school. Skittles is obviously split for greywing. Blossom is a very pretty opaline greywing.
  9. :hap: so funny I think Tyler is a very handsome boy.

Interesting, I see Bubbles is reading this topic so she would know more than I, but maybe you should turn the inside light on earlier, instead of when you put them to bed at 10... [shrugs] just a thought
  11. QPI is probably the breeder's code. You can normally track them through budgerigar or bird clubs and they could give you the birds full details.
  12. Hi Gary, as Beaky has been out of the cage for a while, Tommy may be trying to protect what he sees as his own personal territory. I'd probably separate them again as eterri suggested, until you know what is happening with Beaky's feathers (I had a balding budgie I had to separate for a while too). While he is out of the main cage, start changing the cage around every now and then (I do mine fortnightly), moving perches and toys etc. This should help make Tommy less territorial. Then when you are sure that Beaky is better change it again when you put him back in, so the cage layout is new to both birds. This may help. Feathers.
  13. I love black and white Bea... that is the beauty of digital.. you can easily change any photo you like to B & W. Mickey looks FANTASTIC. He must have gotten the same christmas stocking my doggies got.. with schmakos in it. Mine have that same ball

Such beatuful babies you have had. Congrats.
  15. Oh my goodness, this is getting serious! Good luck, Riebe
  16. I don't think that you should use Pie. I think that you should package him up and send him to me!
  17. I know Kali, those feet look like they have been dipped in blue ink. They are so pretty all cuddled up together
  18. You're gonna get "hooked" I know.. I know.. I got hooked about 3 months back I think... eventually I'll stop fighting it You and Cheeta :hap: :hap:
  19. Perhaps put her, along with dad and the chicks into a hospital cage when you take mum to the avian vet. That would stop any fretting about being taken away from her babies. (any comment breeders?)
  20. Interesting thread, Bea. I keep wondering whether I really should get into breeding later this year. This gives me a lot of food for thought as many of the reasons I wish to breed have been listed above. The results from certain pairings and the wish to try to breed a certain 'type' or mutation makes the whole prcess fascinating and I imagine it would be extremely rewarding on a personal level. I am looking forward to attending my first budgerigar club meeeting, which should give me more of an idea of where I want to go with it all.

Thankyou, I think they are all lovely too. Hopefully your budgie is just overweight and you can fix it by doing the same sorts of things as Bubbles did with hers. It would be best if you can take it to the avian vet that Bluey found for you, rather than a general vet. It would be good to get a clean bill of health and put your mind at rest.
  22. The rings normally only indicate the year of birth, but by using the code on it you can track down the breeder and get info on birth date and even it's parents, if you wanted to. She is very pretty indeed. Feathers
  23. I don't, I think it is fascinating.. I also don't believe there is such a thing as a stupid post on here so "nyah" : Wow, there you go, learn something new everyday. It is obviously fairly common. I love your forum signature too, by the way, it is a great image.
  24. Hi Metta and welcome. My daughter's budgie was quite ill a while back, tail pumping, runny nose, fluffed up etc. The best thing to do with a bird like that is to get them straight to an avian vet. The trip shouldn't do him any harm, just use a small hospital cage, padding via towels on the bottom, a low perch and some wet lettuce leaves for water and make sure that you cover the cage. This makes it much less stessful for them. I personally would not give the antibiotics directly into their mouth. The type you have should only be used in their water supply. Budgies are extreemely small animals and you have no way to accurately dose them. I wish you and Mr Belvedere the very best and hope that you will keep us updated on how he is going. Feathers.
  25. Sounds like a good idea to me Now you just have to convince the other half. Make it a weekender... Cheeta, I used to do the same thing, going to Albany or somewhere to instal computer networks... now I know I was mad... What is your excuse?
