Guess The Bird
In flight it very much looked like a gull. Standing with those powerful legs I would never have guessed a gull Feathers.

Have You Ever Heard Of These Mutations?
This is a haf sider... Side one: Side 2: It is a budgie that shows 2 completely different mutations on each side. In this case normal green and normal blue Feathers.

What Mutation Is This Bird?
Very different Marlon, as previously discussed the DEC needs two recessive genes and a clearwing gene, whereas the Black Eye is a recessive gene and only needs the two recessive genes, one from each parent. They were only discovered recently compared to other mutations, but as they are a much smaller variety than other not many breeders take them up as you could not win Grand Champion with this variety. This accounts more for their rarity than their difficulty in breeding. Feathers.

New Budgie Owner
Hi Josie, well done for taking her to the vet, better to be safe than sorry. Sounds like it is a mating noise. I can understand your concern as it is very strange. Had mine not been in a breeding cabinet when he was doing it I would have ben really worried As for the scratching thing. Yes, many of my budgies do it quite often when they are in breeding condition. They seem to enjoy it Feathers.

I've Gone Blue Too
Hi all, well I've gone blue too, just like Kaz in this post: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=15208 I have been after some blues series birds for a while now and was very disappointed in the lack of blue birds in our recent club auction. These are some of my new purchases which will help me breed some stock birds which I can then pair for exhibition qualities the following season. Sky Violet Cock Cobalt Hen Mauve Greywing Cock Sky Greywing Cock Sky Violet Hen Skyblue Clearwing Hen These came from the same breeder that Kaz got her new additions from. Feathers.

1st Pair - Angel And Ozzy
Yeah, I was wondering whether the little one had red eyes too. Hard to tell in that photo though, and yes, Dave sometimes it is hard to see, let alone photograph the red eyes in ino's, especially if they are a deep plum colour. All your babies are looking great. Feathers.

Pudgie Budgies
Leanne they are beautiful. I think a little extra weight in winter helps them to deal with the colder conditions too. I couldn't resist that beautiful face either Feathers.

What Mutation Is This Bird?
Yes, it is Cheeta. It is, along with the Dark Eyed Clear ,a very rare mutation. Although this one is much easier to breed than the DEC. I have added the description of a black eyed self in this post: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....topic=15223&hl= It is a recessive gene. Interesting to note though that in the show world an albino is a white red eyed self and a lutino is a yellow red eyed self, as per the ANBC publication "The Standard". Feathers. ps. I banned Kaz from answering this post as she would have known straight off.

Members Black Eyed Self Budgies,
Please post photos of your black eyed self budgies here so that others can learn about the mutation. Include name, sex, colour, and other mutations (if any). Description of a black eyed self: A black eyed self bird should have their back, rump, breast flanks and underparts all an even shade of colour throughout. MARKINGS: Faint markings are found on their cheeks, back of head, neck and wings. EYES: Dark with a white iris ring. LIGHT YELLOW (Buttercup) : has white suffused or pale violet cheek patches and a neutral tail feather suffused with ground colour. DARK YELLOW: has white suffused or pale violet cheek patches and a neutral tail feather suffused with darker ground colour than that of the Light Yellow variety. OLIVE YELLOW: has white suffused or pale violet cheek patches, and a neutral tail feather, suffused with darker ground colour than the Dark Yellow variety. White: has white suffused or pale violet cheek patches, and a neutral tail feather with ground colour suffusion. Feathers. .

What Mutation Is This Bird?
It seems I have you guys stumped. Say hello to a Black Eyed Self. This is one of the two I bought at our recent club auction. I actually thought a couple of you may have remembered I bought a couple of rare birds there and would go find the answer I will start a separate post for Members Black Eyed Self birds for future reference. Wow - What Colours Are These Two Babies?
I think they are beautiful. Sometimes it can be harder to tell with the young ones as they don't always obtain their full colour until they have gone through their first moult. Feathers.

Lucas Is Very Very Sick
Shawna, I am glad he has gotten through this week well and coped okay with his first lot of chemo, thank goodness for emla cream. I am especially pleased about his improvement in walking, he will be feeling so much better for it, so I hope the vincristine doesn't knock him about too much. I'm sure the support staff would have warned you about his ever changing moods going through this. Personally I think it is a positive that he has the strength of emotion to be getting frustrated, so hang in there. Your beautiful brave Lucas is just fighting the 'enemy' the best way he knows how. As for your work situation I think it is criminal that you had to appeal such a decision, but having dealt with an ongoing insurance claim for 5 years now, it doesn't surprise me. Lots of love, positive healing energy and prayers for you, Lucas and the whole family are continuing to come your way, Shawna. *hugz* Aly
