You can see if the eyes are red, so they are all obviously black. The biggest one is about to break out in pins everywhere Feathers.

Fantastic information Elly. Feathers.

Have You Ever Heard Of These Mutations?
More than likely, Marlon. That's what I was saying in another post about feather dusters, they are more of an abhoration than a breedable mutation. Feathers.

What Mutation Is This Bird?
BLACK eyed self's Every one, including myself confuses the two terms. I have called a dark eyed clear a black eyed clear before today. It's easier to remember BES and DEC Feathers.

I've Gone Blue Too
Yep, it isn't a bad thing. They are just ocassional abhorations, so you can't predict them. Getting hold of a good blue bird in W.A. at the moment is near impossible. GH? I'll see what I can rustle up for you Paul. There are quite a few birds I haven't posted yet. Thank you and everyone else for their comments on my new additions. I think we just found where a lot of the blue birds in WA have been hiding. Feathers.

What Mutation Is This Bird?
Both totally unrelated birds from NSW. Feathers.

Have You Ever Heard Of These Mutations?
Norm, that doesn't surprise me. That is why the mutations that have been developed in captive budgerigars don't survive in the wild, they are killed off by the 'normals'. I personally don't know of anyone who has bred using a half sider. I shall have to ask the owner of the one that I posted. Feathers.

Guess The Bird
Is it a dollar bird? edit: Ahh, that's a good one, Ellulah. I didn't see your reply.

Guess The Bird
It is going to bug me until I work it out. The shape of beak indicates a honeyeater of some description. Feathers.

Breeding Pair
Hi Neat, make sure it is dark when you candle the eggs. Here is an article which explains what they should look like. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/1958/eggs.html Even if you don't think they are fertile you need to wait until at least 26 days after the last one was laid to be sure. Feathers.

Guess The Bird
It has the look, shape and frontal markings of a wattle bird, but red beak? It is an australian bird. Feathers.

Have You Ever Heard Of These Mutations?
Nope, not mine. That one belongs to a member of the South West Budgerigar Club in Western Australia. There are photos online, and in this forum, ( http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=13476 ) for another half sider that is literally split down the middle rather than just a patch on this bird. The one that you posted would have been the rarest bird at the show he was put in, not necessarily the rarest in the USA, and as Nerwen said, a photo of side two would have helped as the "half sider" mutation could not be seen on that one side.

Question About Eggs...
Michelle, as Nerwen has shown, you are both right. They could all be fertilised in one go, or the next could be fertilised with further mating, as they mate every day anyway. Feathers.

I've Gone Blue Too
He is a lovely buff bird, as is the first cock, who had a feather duster for a brother. The sky violet hen is a really good size too. All of the birds that I looked at (the seller was lovely and bought a selection of birds to me) were in very good condition and nice sized birds. She said when she took them out it made the rest of the ones she had left to sell look puny Very well, Kaz. I gave Irene the internet address, so she saw the birds in photos online. Even better we didn't have to fight over any, like we thought we might have to do at the auction. She had 2 very lovely pieds with her too, but that's your department. You and pied birds were meant to go together. You have a clearwing or two don't you. Maybe you could cover the DEC end of town as well Feathers.

Little One
I;m really sorry to hear that you lost him, Stacey. Maybe, when you are ready to breed again you should try closed breeding, which will stop the problems of other hens interfering. Fly on little one. Feathers.

What Mutation Is This Bird?
Hi Norm, I have two. A cock and a hen. I will try to get 1 round of splits from them and 1 round together, so I have a bigger stock to work with next season. Elly worked out fairly quickly too that I knew what mutation the bird was. I remember when I first joined, Nerwen I think, did the same thing. I found it was a really good exercise, so I decided to repeat it. The full descrption of BES birds are in this post: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....topic=15223&hl= Feathers.

Marking Eggs
Excellent  You'll know if they were the wrong way around if #1 hatches after #2. Feathers.

Is My Bird A Buff?
Norm, it is a lovely budgie. I would be very happy to have himin my aviary. The buff birds, as you can see from this photo, blow really well and have great head feather. One of the birds I bought yesterday had a brother who was a feather duster. Feathers.

Cage, What Do You Guys Think?
From Bunnings, a local hardware store. Bird shops would have it too. I also just attached it with heaps of thick plastic zippy ties (cable ties), which was only meant to be a quick temporary fix, but it is still going strong and I have never needed to change it. Feathers.
