  1. Kaz, I love them all. Love the vibrant colours in the first photo. Mine all had their wings hanging out today too! 33 and humid tomorrow.. they might all be doing the same thing! I could sit all day and watch your aviary, Kaz. Feathers.

Hi, what lovely birds you have, such a rainbow of colours. The very first photo that you posted today of the male pied is gorgeous. I love your yellow face birds too! Absolutely beautiful. Feathers.
  3. What you are doing is great. You just need to keep an eye on him. Having the blanket over the cage will help. Feathers.
  4. Yep, I need to photoshop my pants longer to match mum's.... :hap: it was a computer desktop background for quite a while, which it is why it has had a frame added. Feathers.
  5. Hi, Without actually seeing the bird and watching it I really wouldn't want to say. It may regain strength and normal movement, but it may not too! Does it seems to be improving at all. Maybe put a low perch in and see if it can perch again. As you said, it would be horrible if it was in pain and suffering, but via the internet I would hate to make a judgement either way. Feathers.
  6. Wow,some fantastic photos.... seeing some arid areas and suburban areas. I must go through some of my photos. Here are a couple that I already have on photobucket that were taken in Burswood Park near the centre of Perth: (I may have posted these before... but the post is no longer online. A Kangaroo Paw A flowing pond Pretty fountain My mother with 2 black swans Hovering dragonfly an Agapanthus Flower Head Statue of a 'weary worker' ..I have also got some photos online from a pretty little town in Western Australia called Nannup. It was durng their tulip festival in August ... My mother and I in a GORGEOUS garden Pretty, pretty camellia A wooden fence in an estate garden I just loved the colour contrast in this picture An old homestead A lovely shop on the main street One of the tulips that the town is famous for! Geez Libby, what have you started Feathers.
  7. Hi FGM, Fantastic photos... now that they are resized maybe a mod could change them back to posted images.. it would be a shame if people bypassed the linked images. Nice work. If you have upped the ISO maybe try the sports mode on the Nikon... no flash, so you need good light conditions... you can get some nice images that way. Feathers.

WooHoo, way to go.... they are such a pest and so hard to eradicate. Oh my gosh, that sounds just like Jacquie! Sometimes all we end up with is a tail when the cats finish with them, but I remember in our old house we had traps and Jacquie would freak out if they weren't dead and took them outside to let them go... [shakes head] Feathers.
  9. Hi Dave, Do you usually trim around the birds vents? Feathers.
  10. Awww, It's okay sweetie.. I will keep watch over you You 'rock' George :hap: Feathers.
  11. Kaz, They are so cute. I have a couple of pairs like that at the moment. Only 4 eggs to look after but they seem to think the little Misses needs help. So cute. I just love the love watching budgies interacting. They are so caring in most cases. Feathers.
  12. Hi Deb, the cage looks great! Try to mix it around every couple of weeks to keep it interesting. It also helps to make sure that neither of them get too possesive of any of the toys etc. As for the perches.. they are fine to use, but using them in conjunction with a couple of natural branches of varying widths gives their feet the exercise they require to stay healthy. What I did with my cage (the same as yours) was cut down the perches so they fit width wise not length wise. The perches and branches were then put on either side of the cage with the food dishes kept down low in the middle (so they have no perches above them- so no poop in them!). This allowed the birds to fly from one side to the other and also up and down as they fed. Does that make sense?? If not I will find one of the old photos I have of thae set up. Feathers.
  13. Hey NickNack, that is so great! He must have been a VERY noisy bird, or your neighbours have paper walls! Poor thing, he must be so much more relaxed now. Well done. Feathers.
  14. Hi again, Kaz, he has a great blow but need work in the mask area, so maybe pick according to that feature. I really don't think he is sick at all, just being overly cautios and the poly-aid will help. My birds were wormed in spring, so they should be fine... they are on concrete. Feathers.
  15. It feels like that Kaz. I was so excited :hap: Thanks Maesie and Neat. He really does love the kisses.. I think he likes the feel when I blow in his mask area. Feathers
  16. Hi all, My little man, Kazumi, has been talking "martian" since he was a couple of months on. He used to chat to his toys, but I never really caught any words. He 'talks' all day long. The only thing I have ever properly heard was kisses. I always do my kisses in a series of 5, and he does too. Tonight he was on my shoulder having one of his usual chats with me and all of a sudden I heard "Pretty boy Kazu" I said "Pretty boy Kazumi" back to him and he would repeat it. This went on for ages, along with lots of kisses which he loves..... What a clever boy Feathers.
  17. Hey all, I was out checking nest boxes and sitting outside watching the birds frolic in the aviary when I spied my nice YF grey, called Graye... this is a photo from last year. There was something about his stance that worried me, so, not wanting to take any chances I caught him, checked him over and decided he could do a stint in the hospital cage. He looked nice and clean, no poopy butt, but he was a bit thin for my liking. (This is a bird I was going to suggest to Kaz that we do a joint breeding program with). He got a crop dose of Poly-Aid Plus before going into the hospital cage where I can keep an eye on him. There is absolutely nothing wrong with his appetite, he has been eating quite a bit since going in. Poops look normal. He can stay until morning when I will check him over again. Feathers.
  18. Well, Still looks male to me... the circle round the nares is discoloured, rather than a bright white. Looks male in more photos than looks female and I think the flash may be contributing to the female looking pics. Feathers.
  19. Chryso, gee you were living dangerously with that second photo weren't you. You were in the line of fire and asking to be drenched Feathers.
  20. Jimmy, just to confuse you when you were doing so well, an out of condition female can have blue on her cere Usually it doesn't go all the way to the edges and there is a lot of white around the nares. Feathers.
  21. it is indeed, Norm. I am taking your word for it. I have never bothered reading up on the genetics of this mutation as I only had the one and it is a pet type bird. So that is cool. She is will a fairly poor exhibition type male lute, but that is neither here nor there. The only things I have learnt are from your couple of posts on the subject.. so thanks Feathers.
  22. Hey, Toffeefluf, I just took you for an old poster who knew what they are doing.. I am truly sorry for upsetting you I'll go tell Ravengypsy my theory instead... I did look at the first couple of photos... they were very nice indeed. In all seriousness I do point it out occassionally because on a forum this busy a lot of people simply won't bother to open links as they take too long (I had several pm's agreeing with me). So have a look at the edit commands in photobucket next time you post a photo and if you have any problems ask.. me, or any of the mods... Feathers.
  23. Elly, GREAT camera!! I am truly astounded that you remembered so much from a post so long ago. Good choice to steer away from the Olympus too. They are one camera manufacturer that has suffered a bit from going digital. Once renowned for their lens quality they stupidly started to make "all-weather" cameras (you know like the adverts where the dogs crunches a camera and drops it into a bucket) and put plastic lenses in them. Truly awful. They still have fantastic cameras, you just need to know which ones are which. I think you are getting confused between an SLR and a digital, Elly. Mine is a digital SLR. You are still right thought. You did much better getting the panasonic than getting a cheap SLR. There really is no point in getting a digital SLR unless you have around $2000 Aus dollars ($2,500 USD) and that doesn't include a lens. The cheaper ones are made out of cheap plastic bodies and will easily crack if dropped or banged heavily. You can hit mine with a hammer and it won't break... and it has been dropped a couple of times. I worry about the lens, not the camera. In Sarawak at the begining of the year I slid off a soaked ceramic tile footpath and got thrown out of my wheelchair which landed on the side. The first thing I did when Jacquie came to rescue me is ask her to take the camera (which I bravely protected ) I am currently lusting after a very fast lens that is $2,850.00. Ordinarily the speed would not be a factor, but I take a lot of high action photography in low light conditions where flash photography cannot be used (like gymnastics competitions). Liv, the camera companies have you thinking exactly what they want you to - the more megapixels the better. It simply is not true. Not unless you want to create an image capable of being blown up to cover the side of a building. The last item in the article Elly posted above points out the reasons quite well. Once again, a 12mp camera with a crappy lens is crappy. A 3mp with a good lens is much preferable. You won't find a pro SLR over 10mp, in fact most of them still do 6 - 8mp. By the way, I ALWAYS have my trusty 5mp camera with me. I LOVE that camera! My SLR only gets dragged out when I am on a Photography expedition or travelling. Feathers.
  24. As well as the lamp to provide warmth a shallow dish of water could help by increasing the humidity in the air. Good luck, she doesn't sound great Feathers.
  25. Hey Chryso!!! Wow. I love catching up on all of your prac work. It is so interesting! Wouldn't it be great if you could catch up on some work on big feathered wildlife in South Africa. How very exciting! Great pics! You can see how much you enjoy what you are doing in the photos. Feathers. ps: I've been hoping on a 'catch up' thread
