Soaking Seed
I'm pretty sure it's just nice, clean water If possible soak it in water with the required amount of avi-clens to stop any bacteria forming. Avi-clens is a water additive that I put in with the water for my birds and dogs and cats... it stops the water getting slimy and horrible. It is a vetafarm product. Feathers.

Outcome Of Breeding Pairs
Hi Neat, Spangle is a "dominant trait" so a large majority of chicks will be born spangle. I figured I wouldn't put in all the charts as they can be confusing if you aren't into genetics. If both parents are spangle all the babies will be spangle, some will even be double factor spangles that look like ino's as they are all white or all yellow, with black eyes. Hope this helps, Feathers.

It Is Soooooo Hot!
Hey Liv, welcome to WA weather!! I heard that it is a record for you guys. The budgies manage better than we would imagine. You can cool down the aviary birds with a spray bottle or a light misting with the hose. Budgiebum the birds are screaming out to go into the boxes at the moment, especially after we had a bit of rain the other day.. and the weather over the next couple of days will make them even more keen to get into the breeding boxes. If you waited for April/May a lot of the hens would be too far past breeding condition and you would have to wait until August/September to start. Feathers.

Stripey
Hi Neat, I agree, he is a skyblue spangle and Libby is right about the "opalescence". It is a fault in exhibition budgies and an 'undesired' trait. He is an absolutely gorgeous bird... I would have been really happy to have him. Feathers.

Help... Please
Hi Chrissie, I am a big fan of *hugz* too, I give the out lots to all the special people I love. I think that you only have another 1/2 an hour till 11, I realy hope that Percy is okay and regaining some strength. Lonebudgie, I believe that vets only spend a day or so on bird study. Unless they specialise they don't really have the expertise to treat birds. This is why on this board we ALWAYS stress the importance of finding an avian vet. You should find the location of an avian vet if you have a bird. That way you aren't stressed about finding one in an emergency. *hugz* Chrissie..

Lilly And Peek A Boo
I have never seen them for sale anywhere in Western Australia, but I would have thought that wooden ones would be better insulated, especially if you are breeding in a cold climate. Please note that I infer this without ever even held a plastic one. I thought they looked great when an ex member was using them. They would be really good for us to use in summer probably, as our temperatures get very hot. Feathers.

Photo Taking Website
Fantastic Elly, I have a couple of friends with that panasonic series, including my mother. They take such crisp, bright photos. Now you have it you'll be spending the next couple of months testing it by the sounds of things. I look forward to the photos. The type of digital you got ARE great point and shoot, take anywhere cameras. Digital SLR's are big and bulky and quite a weight to lug around. Most people are better off with non SLR's, they are much more convenient and portable. Feathers.

Photos Of My Breeding Pairs!
I dont know and its very frustrating! Hi Jenene, I am assuming that one of the pairs not yet laying is the last one in your initial post. Give them time... the hen wasn't in laying condition. If the male is he may stimulate the hen into condition. Maybe that is the case with the other pair? Great news for most of the pairs though! Can't wait to see some pink jellybean photos Feathers.

Help - Jack Has Some Type Of Mite/lice On Him
Hi Michelle, birds do preen quite often, exhibition birds are sprayed with water daily before a show as spraying them makes them preen. So his preening could have been a reaction to spraying him. Give it a couple of days then have another look at the base of his feathers. If you see any mites respray. If not leave it till the weekend. Feathers.

Is Her Eye Ok?
Hi Sue, It is most likely from the moult.. you can see she is starting to get a brown patch above her cere too. Checking for mites isn't a bad idea. When you catch her keep your thumb and last two fingers arounf the birds wings and keep the head still between your first and second fingers (that prevents them biting, MOST of the time). Perhaps while you hold the bird someone else can apply the teabag and check for mites. Feathers.

Play Time And Flying
The photos are still oversized according to my properties readings Hi Kaz, I think if you refresh your screen they will resize. Because they still have the same name your computer will recall the photos from your cache' because it is quicker. Feathers.
