  1. All fantastic articles! They are very useful, I recomend reading them whether they apply to your situation or not. Thanks Carri
  2. I believe that it depends on the bird and also the amount of bonding between you and Sammi, but I have found that tame birds will at least remain more calm in the presence of your hand compared to other aviary birds, I have found also that if the tame bird finds a mate he has a less likely chance of remaining tame as his attention will be on the other bird. Most of my aviary birds are tame just from spending alot of time sitting in the avairy, so as I said before it depends on the birds, the strength of the human bird bond and how much time you spend in the aviary with the birds. Thanks Carri

Hi Susannah, welcome to the forum. Its great to hear from another person in Adelaide! Carri
  4. That's a massive crested, I thought that it is really hard to get that size in crested birds, is this true? Could someone tell me plese because I am really confused. Thanks Carri
  5. I don't know why I keep animals, I don't know why I keep budgies and I don't know why I breed birds. All I can say is that I can't describe what it is about animals, but they give me hope.
  6. Hey there, I can't wait to see your new runner budgie! Here is a picture of my runner Triton. He had Pulpitus , I got him from Scotie on this forum. He's the grey guy! Carri
  7. I think it would be a really good experiance for Tim whether it works out or not because pets are one of the biggest responsibilities there is. So it would be good for Tim to start tesing his personal level of comitment. If it doesn't work out then like the others said you won't be any worse off, but when saying that I don't think that should be an option presented to your brother because he should not get the idea that he can just dump his problems on somebody else. ( I doubt your brother is like this, but it's proably best if he learns to stick stuff out) Also if you end up saying yes then before you tell him maybe just get him to do some things for your birds like "hey, could you just clean out that cage for me" and stuff like that. Then you will get a better idea of if this is something he really wants. Sorry for babbling so much! Carri
  8. Awwwwwwwww. Very, very cute. Carri

  12. Awwwwww! You have adorable birdies. You have so many different types living in your house, I wish I could get my mum to let me have a few of mine inside. I love Iris trying to figure out the door. :ausb: Carri
  13. Every time I see your babies Bubbles I wish I could come and steal them away. They are beautiful!!!!!!! Carri
  14. It's so good to know this, now I won't have to spent 5 - 10 minutes trying to see the year on the ring I can just look at the colour. Hurrah! Of course I will still have to check with older birds. Carri

Hey and welcome This is an excellent forum and I'm sure you will have a great time. Thanks Carri
  16. Thanks nyos, thats exactly what I was looking for. But now I am thinking, if the melanin doesn't end up black can it stll project the light to create a blue layer? Thanks Carri Ps. Bubbles, that article looked great I will have to go back and read it more thouroghly
  17. I thinking about how budgie colour is actualy created(as in yellow and melanin pigments and the blue reflective layer) and I was wondering how cinnamon is created. Could someone please explain the formation of this colour? Thanks Carri
  18. okay, so by what we have at the moment, I will get spangles of both cobalt and mauve and the males will be split for opline and if Coby is split for opline there would be visual opline babies as well. Is that right? Thanks Carri
  19. I am almost completely sure that spangle is dominant, but I would like it if someone could tell me for sure. I bought the Boy from a pet store so I don't now the parentage, sorry. And are you saying that some of the chicks would have a darker body colour?, but some would still be the same as the dad. Thanks Carri
  20. Hi everyone, I have just decided on another breeding pair they are This boy Coby (he is the yellow face type 2) and this girl Pirate, she actually has a darker more purple colour than Coby , this photo doesn't do her justice, and she is and opline if you can't see the wings. One of the reasons I chose Pirate is because I think someone posted that breeding a dark blue bird would help to darken the colour on the yft2's , I just wanted to check that I have remebered correctly. And would the results be half yellow face split for opline and then half opline girls? Thanks Carri
  21. Awwwwwwww Very cute pictures, nice. Carri
  22. Yes Lovey they are all in good health, infact my whole avairy is looking great (probably all the showers) I don't really have a certain type that I am aiming to produce, I basicly would just like to see which pairs others believe would be a good pairing, in any way, so things like they look lovely together, those would have interesting babies anything really. Because the reason that I want pairs for the to is I would love to keep the males families going. Onother reason I would like help on pairing is beacuse the females in the aviary are bickering so the girls not chosen for the boys will be going into another avairy along with some of my older birds. I will not breed Cheif for about a year and a bit beacse he was hatched in november so hes still to young, but Ruse and his sisters are getting older and I would love at least to pick a mate for Ruse. Thanks Carri
  23. Hi everyone, I would love some help at pairing up two of my boys. There are six female birds to choose from and I can't decide. I will number the females. To make answers easier. First the boys. This is the first boys mum he is the same, I just can't get a good picture of him! His name is Cheif. the other boy Ruse, he is the one in the middle, the two on either side are his sisters(yellow pied- no.1, blue pied no.2) and possiable mates for the lutino boy. The other girls no. 3 no.4 no.5 the last girl is the sister of cheif and I dont have a picture of her , but she is a lutino like he mum and brother. no.6 Thanks heaps, if you know what types I would get from the pairs you pick could you add them too. Thanks Carri
  24. I find males are fine together, but some females can't even sit next to another bird without starting a fight! So if your female is alright with her brother I would say there is a bigger chance of her liking the two other boys. Thanks Carri
  25. With baby birds you can gentle squeeze their crop to get out air and some food,it would be to late to do that now and Baby is not a baby, but does anyone know it you can do that with adult birds if they eat something they shouldn't? I hope Baby is doing all right. Keep us posted. Thanks Carri
