Lukie And The Sparrow Hawk
We once had a hawk in our area for about a week, it was contintly landing on my bird cages and near the aviary, it managed to gouge on of my breeding budgies and it must have pulled the body through the bars but it obviously couldn't get the head through so all I found was a blood soaked head at the edge of the cage. But the thing is for that entire week I didn't hear a sound from the birds(wild and domesticated) and my birds where stone still. We didn't have any wild birds in the garden which was wierd because we live next to a national park. It was a very quite week. The good thing is the hawk hasn't been back! I'm glad Lukie is relaxed and happy again! And I hope you don't have to many more sparrow hawks watching Lukie. Thanks Carri

New Flightless Runner Budgie.
Thanks everyone for your coments The reason Triton is flightless is because he has "pulpits which is a bacterial infection that can not be spread from one bird to another, only 40% of cases re-grow their feathers. Their is no treatment other than veterinary baths but the cases that are cured happen spontainiously." Quote Scotie Thanks again Carri

Cage Size
Thanks Bea I was thinking it would be all right for a while as he doesn't need to streach his wings and because he won' t be in there for to long. Thanks again Carri

Cage Size
Triton my new flightless runner budgie is curently in quite a small cage about : Height-45cm Width- 34cm Depth- 34cm He will only be in here for probably a week and a half. He comes out four five times a day for half hourly to 2 hourly running times and I have made many ladders to each perch so he can get around. Also he goes into the opened top box with mesh where Pegasus who I'm handrearing is and spends time in there socialising. Basicly I want to know if this is an okay cage for short tem living because most of my other cages are being used. Thanks for any advice Carri

New Flightless Runner Budgie.
Baby Pegasus is curently siting asleep on my lap, so I'm going to put him back with heat lamp and get Triton out for a play. It's hard having them out at the same time because they run in opposite directions and Triton is very quick! Thanks Carri

New Flightless Runner Budgie.
Well I have a brand new birdie, he is a flightless runner budgie, from scotie one of the forum members. The family the little guy went to live with had to suddenly move to England due to a sick relative. So now I have the little bundle of feathers! I have named him Triton and he is very tame and lots of fun! I havn't managed to get any photos. I would also like to say to those people that Scotie is NOT an irresponsible breeder I know him quite well and he cares alot for his birds, I have been to his house and seen his set up, and it is excellent! Not to mention the fact that all his birds love him! They all sit on his shoulder and whistle in his ear, basicly I just want to say that although his post may have looked dissapointing to some people, the truth is that Scotie is a very responsiable guy and I wanted to put your minds at rest! Also ending this post with some happiness, I also bought a baby budgie which had been kicked out the nest and I am now hand feeding him as he is still so little.I have named him Pegasus I will post some pictures of him tomorrow night. Thanks Carri

New Avairy
The stock cages are looking great and I'm looking forward to see the new shed. Also I've decided to build my new avairy/birdroom, because I'm expanding my lovebird and budgie stock and also I would like all my cages in one area as at the moment they are moved whenever my parents need the space for some purpose., also I currently have 8 different cages scattered around my large backyard which is quite a lot of work, carring around water and seed and cleaning cages. Anyway I love the set up of your avairy on ebay and I was wondering if you had time you could write down a small list of the materials you used if not I'd just like to ask about. If you found it a good bird room/avairy? Sorry my post is so long . I'm so jealous of the lucky person who bought it! Carri :ausb:

How Many Budgie Can I Put In This Cage?
I bought a cage like Riebie's and Bea's for only $39.95 Bargin! As Iv'e seen it for $60, except it has doors on both sides so a breeding cage if I need it. A month after I bought it some family friends who sold their birds, gave us a small avairy and three cages, one of which is exactly the same to the one I had bought. I get a lot of second hand cages because my dad is a painter and matinace guy and picks up lots of unwanted cages. Which I will add, go through at least 3 washes with disenfectant and thats if I know what happened to the birds. I'm a bit obsesive about cleaning! Carri

Breeding Pair Again
Hi a while ago i posted pictures of my breeding birds Marie and Louis I told you that the had no iris rings, but I have found that every fortnight their iris ring shows up.Both birds eyes are a red plum colour. Louis who is the white one, in certain light seems a grey/brown colour which is very faint. This colour is on his body and wavy lines on his wings. Marie looks the same as the photo but has a green tinge to her back again in certain lights. A colour and type for both birds was never confirmed completly. So I have some photos of their last chicks still in the nest, they look the same now fully feathered and have plum eyes. I would love to have a final descision made on their type /colour. Thanks Carri

I Want To Check The Health Of The Chicks

I Want To Check The Health Of The Chicks
My birds Marie and Lord Louis are on their second clutch of chicks. Two died while hatching , but I think they have two chicks and one egg left. The problem is Marie won't get of the eggs and I need to check the health of the chicks. I've tapped on the box, and held the box open until she gets angry and flapps her wings at me. In her last clutch she did'nt feed her two last chicks so I want to check if their okay. Any ideas? Thanks Carri ps. last clutch she moved of the eggs after tapping on the box before opening.

French Moult Or Very Buff.
Heya Scotie, fianally your first post! I just wanted to say the reason I believe the comparison between humans and budgies is a fair one is because a point was made that we look after the birds and therefore have resposibility. So we can look after birds, but don't we also look after are fellow humans? So why not help them out and get rid of diabilities? Let's cull some humans then. If all animals are equal and deserve to be helped out with this kind of thing.(by the way humans are a type of animal) No one can get rid of genetic mutations as soon as they can I might change my mind! Daz I hope the examination goes well! Carri

French Moult Or Very Buff.
Even though he may be a little different he still is very cute. The last picture is great quality I can never get pictures of my birds in flight or even moving.

Breeding Time
So all do these things have to be resonably good, or is it okay to have one or two of the things a little below average if the rest of the bird is quite good? Love pictures 4, 5 , 6 they look so proud.
