  1. the baby to me looks like a recessive pied. the only way this is possible is that The mother is either split for recessive pied, or is actually masking recessive pied. and father is split for recessive pied. Father would be split to cinnamon as well. so this is a girl as your friend had mentioned already. with genetics, it may be percentage, but it doesn't mean that you'll get it out of every clutch. so it could be hidden for many generation before it is 'shown' with the right combination of birds and genes
  2. oh, that is awful that poor little Saffy and you had to go through that. lucky you were home for her... there's probably a reason why you felt the need to go home that very day. I'm glad everything turn out okay for little Saffy.
  3. Opaline has the 'V', but they also have the colour in their wings. and those especially stand out to me are the opaline spangles.
  4. That is really really interesting.. I have a dom pied that has colour on his wings/neck v area, and I have often wondered if he had some sort of opaline in his bloodline. guess I can only wait and see what other people's results are from split opaline male.
  5. awwwwwwww, what cutie pies!! they look great! Paul... can you take a picture of the four eggs together? I'll be interested to see it.

they sound alright I think if they are all being civil about it!! hehehe.. I had a hen (Daffy) who was very jealous of another hen (Kiwi) who had gotten together with her 'ex' (Lime)... Daffy did EVERYTHING she could think of to break Kiwi and Lime apart, and in the end, this included an all out fight that tore my poor little Kiwi's cere. I had to seperate them out of the aviary, and for little Kiwi to recover as well. Now, Daffy has moved on, so Kiwi is safe again.

yep.. like Elly said, they can get jealous, but like humans, not everyone of them do. Chances are if she is jealous, she'd be doing something about it, like try to 'sabotage' the other two's relationship.
  9. it's all good.. just had to make sure I understood it right.
  10. Awww, so sorry to hear about your little budgie Jemini. thanks for your advice though.. I think we can never be too careful with the little ones.
  11. Elly, are you saying that the dad is a DF yellowface? Just want to make sure I understood what you meant.. I totally agree with everything else you said, just not quite sure if I got the above paragraph right. The dad is just a normal white face skyblue I believe.. even with white face babies, it doesn't mean that the dad is DF YF, as the mum only SF YF, therefore, it must be carrying a true White face gene.. and if daddy is white face, there's a 25% chance of getting true white face babies... Oh my head hurts too.. hehe From the above clutch.. here's my thought... Jaleh is split to Opaline, and recessive pied. May or may not be a DF yellowface. Gwen being a creamino is harder to say whether she's split or she's masking the gene. She could very well be a recessive pied but are mask by the ino gene. if not, she'd be split for recessive pied. All male babies will be split for ino. Oh, in the last picture, the bird that's hanging off the bar with the back towards you, is that Jaleh? the dad? Or is it totally not related? if he's the dad, does have have a spot on the back of the head??

I think something to possibly consider is that the bird has Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD) it affects all psittacines (parrots/cockatoos/parakeets/lorries/lorrikeets). What's the beak and nails conditions like? If they have PBFD, chances are their beak will be brittle.
  16. I think you got them right except for Cinnamon and Maricruz and may be Dawson.. In my opinion, Cinnamon is a skyblue cinnamon, (possibly cobalt) Maricruz is a yellowface 2 spangle (possible cinnamon as the wing markings looks cinnamon on my monitor, but that could just be my monitor...) And Dawson, I think it's more of a goldenface recessive pied.

awwwww, they are soooooooo cute!!! :hap: I love how they all fell asleep all huddle up like that.
  18. Elly, I believe 'Olive' is used to describe violet green birds.
  19. there's finally a dom pied baby from Laila.. she's holding out her good gene... hehe.. They are all just gorgeous!
  20. well however the gene works... whether it's hidden or split..
  21. the grey cock is a single factor grey and it is split to Ino the light green hen is split to blue and yellowface gene

awww poor things... But what do redmites look like if I may ask?
  23. are there any more pics of Skye from different angle? From that angle, I would more likely to lean toward continental clearflight pied rather then a dominant pied. Cheers
  24. Oh feathers... you're funny.. I thought calling yourself that was a bit extreme, but I know what the wee hour of the morning can do to someone's mind.. hehe I love YueLiang too.. she's the one that has the feathery legs... Awww Cheeta I love the red eyed bird in the first picture...is it a male? ... What type would you call it.........it's so nice. Paul, Milo is my fallow boy that I mentioned to you awhile back when you had your fallow hen up for sales... I believe he is a yellowface recessive pied fallow mauve. he's only about 7-8 months old... I'm glad you like my little boy.. he's gorgeous.. and he loves to hang out with the quails... His best mate before I moved him into the aviary while he was in quarantine was one of my male cock that needed some recovery time after his hen attacked him.. poor thing, but those two hit it off in my indoor cage, and Milo would hang out at the bottom of the cage with the quail.. and now, he hangs out with the pair I have in the aviary, but I don't think they know what to do with him!! (Laughing out loud)
