Can Someone Help With The Type And Sex Of My Birds?
Can I be such a pain again... and throw in a spin for Devo... ?? In the case that if he is a DF dom pied, there's a possibility of Devo being a cock! My little Spirit is a DF dom pied, and for the longest of time I thought that he was a she until 'she' was released into the aviary and met Blondie, and then 'she' showed me that 'she' was capable of 'getting jiggy with it' with Blondie, soooo 'she' became a he.. and if anyone sees him and his cere now, they'd would say that he is a she... Hows that for a spin in the equation?!?!

~~introducing...
awww, they are sooo cute all together... I love your 'budgietiel'.. Harry is beautiful!!

Zeuss And Sophie
yes Zeuss would have gotten an opaline gene from his mother. But because he's DF spangle, he could be masking opaline (only possible if Jonas is split for opaline). then all babies between Zuess and Sophie will be opaline spangle. That's if He's masking opaline under the DF Spangle.

Zeuss And Sophie
Coffee is good Elly... especially in the morning... hehehe.

Zeuss And Sophie
Kaz, I definitely see opaline spangle in the first two baby. The blue showing on the wings are caused by the opaline and spangle genes together. If it was only opaline gene with dom pied gene, the blue that's showing now, should have more black still. The last cinnamon baby, I can't tell yet, but I'm assuming it'll look like the other two but cinnamon rather than black like them. Elly, I think Macka was saying that Kaz will get 50% spangle dom pied 50% spangle Which I think is the correct ratio if not taking Opaline into the equation. Feathers, because the mother is an opaline, all baby boy that is not opaline will be split to opaline, and because the there are visual opaline, it means that the dad is of course like you said, split for opaline. So out of this clutch, you can get opaline cock and hen, also cock that is split for opaline, and non opaline hen.

Greywing Or Cinnamon
she is a cinnamon. Not greywings. the best way to describe greywings would be a faded black.. and if it looks like there's anysort of brown/cinnamon colour in it, it's is not greywings. Cinnamons aren't actually brown in colour, but rather a pooey greyish brown. I hope that makes sense.

New Birds And A Few Questions
How old is Hugo? if he's older, then I'd have to correct it and say that he's a recessive pied. but sometimes some budgies don't get their iris rings till a bit older, but Hugo does look like he should have iris rings by now. so he is probably a recessive pied.
-
New Birds And A Few Questions
Hugo reminds me an awful lot like my Spirit, except that hugo's got more blue on his chest/tunny area. Spirit is a double factor dom pied. If I was to take a jab at what type of pied, I would have said double factor dominant pied. Does he have iris rings in both or one of his eyes? My Spirit has one iris ring only.

2nd Pair - Romeo And Sebby
I didn't think Fallow was a sex linked gene?? So if it's just a recessive gene, all babies, not just the boys will be split to fallow. of course if it's a recessive gene, rather than a sex linked genes.

2nd Pair - Romeo And Sebby
Going by that and the original photos, I'm going to guess A fallow.. and my 'full' guess is... she's a mauve dilute fallow (which by the way was my original thought from when I first saw the picture before I read anything else). Not a spangle because it doesn't have the clear spangle tails, and also the flight feathers aren't clear either. Edit.. on second look, may be she isn't a dilute... may be it's the flash that makes her look so 'pale'.

G'day
welcome Hannah. good to have you here with us. can't wait to hear more about your birds.

What Babies Will I Get?
I agree with what Elly said... but also, I just like to add other possibilities to the equations. Not knowing what your baby look like except that it's a blue pied... here are some other possibilities of why you got the baby. The hen could be masking dominant pied which gives you 50% of getting pied if paired with a normal bird. And also both birds could be split for blue, unless of course, by yellow red eye hen you mean a yellowface albino, which also known as creamino is a yellow red eye bird that isnt as brilliant in yellow as the lutino. Which in this case means that she's a blue series birds, which means that the dad in split for blue and the mum is in fact a blue bird. Oh also, if it's a recessive pied, the mom could very well be a lutino recessive pied (but the lutino gene mask the pied gene so you can't tell). The ino gene basically mask everything that a bird has except for cinnamon, that's when they have brown wing markings with only white or yellow on them.

Help Please
I haven't done any calculations myself, since CC was calculated as normal cobalt rather than dom pied cobalt, I was just more thinking along the line that the 'normal' percentage would drop and the dom pied percentage would increase.

What Are The Chances?
I think in terms of living with same species and different species make a big difference in talking ability. I'd think that if budgiekins is living with another budgie, his chances of speaking would drop dramatically.

Help Please
awww, cute babies!! and umm after reading all that, the last pics clearly shows that the mom is a clearflight pied! so she ain't 'normal... that would change the percentages a bit.

Males Split To Opaline
So basically you're saying that if a cock bird has opalesance, it means that there's a 50% chance that it can be split to opaline right? I guess that's an okay % to guess what your bird is split for. :ausb: hehe
