  1. Can you get hulled oats and hulled sunflower seeds in the US? Safflower seeds are fairly easy to hull - but with the amount of time you'd need to do it for it will be a long haul. Of course theses seeds are not a great vitamin source, you'd need to add vitamins to his water. Did the vet offer the chance of a fibreglass beak being grafted onto the remainder of 'his' beak? I wish you the best of luck with him
  2. It's something we've all done at one time. Don't beat yourself up over it. You will know for next time - as the wise ones say "experience is the best teacher".
  3. ah okay! Thanks Pearce. So then "unbroken" doesn't last very long? Shame though, I personally believe budgies are at their cutest when they are unbroken capped.
  4. For Australians who play the Lottery next week is going to be record breaking. Tuesday night the Oz Lotto is worth $40 Million first division. Thursday night Powerball is worth $??? first division. (not released at time of posting - if Admin or Mod can alter this post when available please?) Saturday night Lotto is worth $14 Million. What an incredible week for us! Just to think too - Lotto winnings are tax free in Australia! See here for further details: http://www.goldencasket.com/ No, I don't work for the Casket Agency - I just want every Australian to have their fair chance. (Plus when I win, I will visit many an overseas member on my big overseas holiday!)
  5. No, it's an early finish. Presentation is at 1.30pm I am thinking of entering the special section Bought Birds - just to see what it's like.
  6. What does the term "unbroken cap" & "broken cap" mean? When I went to the last show they were talking about it but I didn't understand and felt intimidated being a newcomer and didn't ask.

  8. When a budgie of mine had his upper beak taken off I got him to eat hand rearing formula as it was impossible for him to eat his seed. Don't worry about him not eating the ground up pellets, he'll know that they are not real (natural) food so he'll continue to ignore them. Usually you can buy hulled oats & sunflower seeds - although not good as complete diet as too full of fat. See if you can get him onto handrearing mix, then you can also mix in his veggies. He'll be able to eat that easier.
  9. Yes, he was mated to a dfs hen.
  10. She actually came down to bite me this morning! I am very happy about this as she actually came to me
  11. Well looks good now. I actually like the woodgrain pattern too. The gray opaline on the front page is very nice. Is she recently fledged?
  12. Well, Boris grumbled at me tonight when I came home from work. That is something - she has been completely ignoring me lately.
  13. LOL I would have suggested putting some Beethoven on and cranking the volume - that should make them stop.
  14. I'm also going to be replacing my camera soon and with the governments rebate coming I may be able to afford it sooner than I planned. I've got a handicam here I've never used - can they take still photo's? Don't matter, will take it to Cash Converters, should get a couple hundred to put towards a new camera. I will be keeping an eye on this thread for idea's. Looking to spend $600-$1000 so hopefully will get a good one.
  15. Pearce? I just tried your website and it's not showing. There is a language I cannot decipher displaying on it. I love your babies. Very strong and nice looking.
  16. Graywing? Does that then mean the son is split graywing? I was thinking of retiring Boris, this summer has knocked her about and we haven't even had a really hot one.
  17. Some incredibly beautiful budgies there. Do you sell any of the bubs? I'd be interested.
  18. What a gorgeous little budgie. How about Droppy for a name?
  19. She's had absolutely nothing to do with me this weekend. My father called me out this morning as she was sitting on the floor facing the corner. Soon as I went outside she raced to the top perch. I caught her up anyway and examined her body - by golly she's got some meat on her!!! She's fine except for a porcupine for a head, the poor girl there was nowhere I could touch on her head to rub her so I rubbed her beak. Lucky for me she doesn't bite me very hard. I think she was chewing on the floor wire rack - that's probably what she was doing. My poor porcupine Boris!
  20. I accept he's not a cinnamon bird - the cinnamon grey green hen is lighter than the normal grey green hen, his wing markings just intrigue me. None of his baby photo's show the colour well, he moulted into a beautiful bright bird just like his father but without the face spots. Here his father is the middle bird, rather handsome bird in my opinion (mother dfs): This is one of his baby pictures: Could I pair him to Boris? Will they make nice bubs?
  21. It's an automatic flash and I'm not certain if it went off when I took the shot or not. Might have to show him to you Pearce in the feather so to speak. Do you go to the Ipswich Budgie meetings?
  22. A cardiologist died and was given an elaborate funeral. A huge heart covered in flowers stood behind the casket during the service. Following the eulogy, the heart opened, and the casket rolled inside. The heart then closed, sealing the doctor in the beautiful heart forever. At that point, one of the mourners burst into laughter. When all eyes stared at him, he said, "I'm sorry, I was just thinking of my own funeral........I'm a gynecologist." The proctologist fainted.
  23. I only bred 2, 4 & 5 and the rest I bought from various sources. 1, 7, 9 & 10 were from a pet produce store and supposedly came from the same breeder who left the fancy and cut their rings off. Male number 4 - the sky spangle, is it a normal feature of spangles to have brown wing markings? When he was a chick they were alot darker than they are now.
  24. LOL my parents were surprised to see pink budgies! Thank you for explaining it again Nat - I shall save this post to refer to.
  25. Apologies for the picture quality, my camera is not as good as it once was. Here is a rear photo of the green hen - she has the black tail.
