Thanks for posting that Derek, it was very interesting and an excellent looking construction. :raincloud:

Nice looking birds Pearce. The tiels are very pretty too. :raincloud:
  3. Love the cinnamon sky spangle. I've got a handsome lad that would look really good with her!
  4. I saw 3 male bush budgies at a bird show I went to today. They were very cute and incredibly timid - so much so they spent most of the time I saw them trying to be the one on the bottom of the pile. It is remarkable how small and scrawny looking the bush budgies are. I have bred very small pet budgies but nothing as small and thin (not an unhealthy thin) as the bushies.
  5. Mariah, the Health Organisation has made no mention of animals contracting the disease but I would hazard a guess that it has not been investigated. There is no way to answer your question as quite simply no Health Organisation has investigated it. I would simply do as DrNat has suggested.
  6. My budgies will try anything the see the other parrots eating - whether they like it or not is another matter but at least they try it. Just wish they wouldn't try and push the rosella's off as one day the rosella's are going to mature and stand up for themselves . . .
  7. grrr! Don't you hate it when the computer goes haywire? All those emails piling up and people thinking you are ignoring them . . . :
  8. sheesh! You'd have thought he'd duck!

"20 And finally, there was the person who sent twenty different puns to her friends, with the hope that at least ten of the puns would make them laugh. No pun in ten did." *groans*

  12. Termites don't eat the eggs Pearce. Out in the wild there is an insect (can't remember which) that co-habitates in the termite mound with the bubs and keeps the nest clean (eats poop etc). Again can't remember details. Really fascinating relationship though. Jenny, can you post pictures of the outside of the box? I'm interested to see how people mimic the nest in captivity. When I had my pair I bought a piece of plumbing pipe and attached it to the front of a medium parrot box and sprinkled freshly dug dirt inside the pipe. The hen seemed to like it as it was a solid fit for her going into and out of the box. The male didn't like it though and stayed well away.
  13. I would postulate that any colour in nature that currently exists can be bred into any bird that exists in nature. There already exists black birds in some species (crow, black cockatoo), same as red (rosella's) so these colours already exist in naturally created (bred) birds so it's a matter of finding the right "trigger" to bring them out in budgies. Gosh I'd love to be a geneticist!
  14. LOL I had to remove the bubs from that cage as they were inexperienced with budgies and didn't know if they sat on the wire the budgies would chew their feathers off
  15. If you can get to Goodna there is a pet store called Prestige Aquariums & Pets, they have a good range of cages and often have ones at a good price. They have ones that are the small ones you have already looked at up to really large ones (suitable for a cockatoo - bar spacing too big for budgie though). Their special cages get snapped up quickly as the prices are really good.
  16. tortoiseshell! I have heard that name before. Very pretty! Max - the gray I had, was bred by my cat and so many people wanted to adopt him. He ended up being almost twice the size of his mother and even as an adult she'd catch prey for him as he was too lazy. He did catch a cockroach once - very proud of himself. He was so lazy he refused to move with us and when we moved (a whole 800m away) it took him 2 weeks to return home. All the ones who'd wanted to adopt him as a kitten looked after him and he spread himself away. Died at around 16yo I think (we kept tabs on him via his new families).
  17. Kacey is gorgeous! :fear What type of cat is the non gray one? Very pretty colouring. I used to have a gray cat, laziest thing in the whole world!
  18. I've not had any luck breeding budgies lately but my grass parrots have been breeding well, thought I'd share. These Red Rump bubs fledged a few weeks ago: Opaline split Lime male: Lime Opaline hen: Lime hen: Normal split to Opaline and Lime male: Bourke bubs from 2 consequtive nests fledged late 2008: Elegant bubs fledged late 2008: 2 X Cinnamon hens: Normal split Cinnamon male: I have sold the bourke bubs as I couldn't find anyone to swap for new bloodlines. I still have the elegant bubs - still trying to find someone to swap for new bloodlines. I still have the red rump bubs but am looking to sell 2 of them. Hope you enjoyed looking at them.
  19. Aww G! You've done really well with her. Does she still do her screaming or has she settled down? The lady's home she is going to is going to be so happy getting a trained bird. Have you started training Elmo is these tricks too?
  20. Do you have a brick house? They enter brick homes via the weep holes and can climb right to the top of brick homes. There is stuff you can buy from the hardware store to put into the weep holes to stop mice getting in that doesn't block the weep holes to still let the moisture out. If your home is timber then I can't figure a way to stop them except lots of traps.
  21. We got rid of a few a couple weeks ago. Seems you just get rid of one family and another moves in to take their place!
  22. How lovely that you rescued Chewy! He will be so much happier among human beings. I applaud everyone who rescues birds from horrible situations. Well done! If we had the ability to give Karma points on this forum I'd certainly be putting yours up!
