  1. That is fantastic news not boring at all! Wish I could pay my cards off. One day.
  2. I've got a beautiful pair of Princess Parrots, then a colleague at work asked me to adopt a couple of her mothers birds. I bring home this beautiful large Princess Parrot female in perfect condition - this birds' name is Monty. My female Princess Parrot (name Princess with whom I am wonderfully original with names) has a hip problem and I am not overly keen on breeding her (a breeder friend is going to inspect her when she collects the aviary) so I put Monty and Prince together to bond. This is the happy couple, Monty on the left and Prince on the right: Tonight I find out through breeder friends that Monty is a boy! Can't expect 2 boys to breed for me now, can I? Hopefully I'll have better luck with this pair - I know they are a proper pair!
  3. I'd suggest talking to people on non-budgie Parrot forums. Second one listed people have pet ecky's - along with lots of other parrots. 1st one is also a mixture. Handraised Quakers are fantastic pets. Along with Green Cheek Conure. African Grays are for very experienced bird owners. http://smileysbirds.proboards26.com/index.cgi http://aussiebirds.proboards27.com/index.cgi
  4. How horrible! I've been in the Pets Paradise at Redbank Plaza in Ipswich and have to say the cages are very clean and the birds alway have fresh water and plenty of seed. I have never seen fresh veggies in the cages though. 1 thing that always annoys me with these places is they all seem to think nothing of butchering the poor birds' wings!
  5. Jes' comments on February 4 2008 made me cry.
  6. Beautiful bouquet! Are you keeping it after the wedding? My sister stored hers in the freezer. Don't forget to organised yourselves with the Public Trustee (if you haven't already).
  7. If there is one thing we're not short of thats kangaroo! A number of the smaller wallabies are doing it tough. Massive land clearing? Cut it by half and it'd still be too much! How many thousands of tonnes of food is just dug back into the soil every year! How many species of animals have lost their homes when all the tree's have been cleared. Hooded Parrots, Golden Shouldered Parrots endangered to name but 2. LOL how off topic have we gotten here?!?!!
  8. The cats are cute, but I believe only Australian animals belong in Australia. Too many foreign things polluting our country and destroying it's purity. Savannah Cats Australia - http://www.savannahcats.com.au/
  9. Well the albino red rump never shuts up! I've gotten a good handle on the scaley mite on the green hen and the 2 pieds are becoming pretty chummy! I did send an email asking about the breeder but they weren't able to help. Just chalk it down to experience I guess.
  10. Boris was a winter bub. However some good advice I received was to put the birds down after the winter solstice. I finished cleaning the breeding cages today so will move the pairs into their breeding cages next week and feed them up for a couple weeks before giving them a nest box (maybe - usually can't wait that long!).
  11. My advice - I am the negotiator in my home. Get prices for the same fridge etc from at least 4 different stores. Go to the store you like the look of and have been around the longest. Show them your notebook of quotes and ask for their best price. Also ask for free deliver - never know they may give it. Big thing to note: measure the distance of your front door. We bought a freezer couple years ago & didn't measure and had to remove the entire door to get it to fit through. Delivery men were not happy!
  12. Sure got some gorgeous birds there!
  13. She's pretty small compared to what he was. I guess they just haven't been able to breed the size into the albino's yet. The blue's I've got are a decent size so I might try her to the blue male I've got and see what happens. The bourke's were expensive too. Saw a pair they wanted $50 for them and they are the normals! When I sell them I sell 7 for $100!
  14. There really needs to be some kind of health guarantee for these shows. I'm not just talking about the for sale birds, there would have to have been a good $50 000 worth of show birds on sale, if the red rump had something airborne it could theoretically infect every bird there. Just a pain that the vet near me no longer does autopsies.
  15. This is outrageous! The male red rump has died! Unbelievable! Not only do I get sold underweight and a scaley mite infected budgie but weak red rumps! I thought he was lethargic yesterday but figured it was because he was dragged to a show. Obviously there is no health standard required for the Ipswich Show. Knew I should have picked up his business card, he was selling cage fronts, then I would have called him and given him what for!
  16. my condolances . . .
  17. Those are prices for handraised. I also saw yesterday a breeding pair of blues for sale for $450 (aviary breeders). When I had my pair I'd bought them as an experienced pair for $300 (aviary breeders). 18. The fellow and lass on the right are Red Rumps. He's an opaline split to blue and she obviously is albino. lol Jen you've got no chance!
  19. Got these at the Ipswich Bird Show today. Didn't find out until I examined them when I got home that the female pied is underweight and the green hen has scaley mites! She hates treatment but in a week she'll be grateful. She did love having her head scratched and had me do it for 10 minutes - even after discovering that a human was doing the scratching and not another bird! hehe
  20. Average price for fully weaned quakers is $150-$200 for green and $200-$250 for blues. If they are only 3 weeks old then they are not really worth more than $100 each. Parrot forums are the best place to ask about temperament, I know heaps of members of parrot forums with quakers.
  21. It is a shame this wonderful internet wasn't around 20+ years ago so that we all could have avoided mistakes that costs the lives of our beloved budgies. We are lucky now that we can share our experiences with the ones just starting out so that they do not make the same mistakes we made. What's that saying? "Those who do not learn from the mistakes of others are doomed to repeat them"
  22. Welcome to the forum Blue & F!
  23. Yes, this subject does pertain to both animal and human needs.
  24. Do what I did, get a car with LPG and pay only 67.9 cpl!
  25. He looks lovely. Have you tried the parrot specific forums? I bet he won't be looking for a home for long.
