  1. This is a wonderful video and the vet gives easy to follow instructions for the novice: EDIT: Due to link no longer active. New links above.
  2. ahh okay. Is it because the mum is DF? or is it just from the dad? I doubt I will ever get mutations right!
  3. Can't believe I forgot to update here with pics! Here is both siblings together, I am guessing they will both be girls - can anyone confirm this? Eldest chick: Youngest chick: What's their mutation? Is it graywing blue?
  4. The little one is doing really well, mumma feeds it til it's near bursting.
  5. Alright, you all wanted it now here it is! Updated picture taken this morning, the difference in species is really getting noticable now. I spied the Red Rump chick with it's head sticking out from the "mums" wing onto her back yesterday which is a red rump thing - not a budgie but mum didn't seem to mind. Here is today's picture:
  6. These are my favourite Red Rump hen & Bourke hen - just friends: Sam:
  7. that's right! I managed a peek when I got home from work before complete darkness settled in. I just went ooooo the mother was sitting beside them with her right wing stretched over them, it looked so sweet!
  8. nah, not much happens in 3 days. I will post weekly updates.
  9. (Laughing out loud) they are in the first picture.
  10. Scroll to the top of the page. The mother is a lacewing and the father is a recessive pied who must be split to lacewing as I've got 1 boy & 1 girl lacewing.
  11. The red rump chick should be okay for a few days. I am not expecting her to accept the chick full term. She will realise that it's not 'quite right'. I only put the red rump chick in this morning as the red rump mother is on her 3rd straight clutch. I'm trying to get her to stop breeding without throwing out viable eggs. I'm trying to farm out the smallest chicks and hopefully will have someone who can handraise them for me so I can force the RR mother to stop breeding. They do have red eyes, the Red Rump chick is on top so makes it a bit hard to see.If the lutino's had black eyes, they would be a Dark Eyed Clear (think that's the right term?).
  12. Well I paired this couple up awhile ago: I thought, I'm going to get wonderful chicks from these! Got 3 eggs. Then tragedy struck, we had a 42C day and since it's been such an unusually mild summer some of my birds weren't prepared. The hen died. I found her the next day on the floor - she had appeared okay previously. Her eggs were cold but I popped them into this girl and boys box (their chicks were raised by Jnr Boss): Changing the shavings today and I heard a noise from the box, took it down and found: That will be the only chick, the other eggs are no good. I am not even sure how old the chick is. It was pure chance that I put the eggs in the white hens box, my first thought was to throw the eggs out! Sure glad I didn't! At least I will have something to remember the mum by.
  13. The blue bub is a real sweetheart. We brought him inside for a play this morning and he wandered around for a little while then kept going to mum for a head scratch. Such a sook! and when she left to make a cuppa he was craning his head to see where she went. :(Laughing out loud): What's with the blue tail? I thought blue birds had a black tail?
  14. This handsome couple have 3 handsome chicks so far & are fostering 1 red rump chick:
  15. Been shocking with the updates, sorry guys. The eldest albino died. This is the other albino foster chick - foster mum attacked this bub after it fledged: Blue foster chick - foster mum attacked this bub too after it fledged, can see some marks on it's head: I had to remove the foster mum for the protection of all the chicks. Lacewing chick 1: Lacewing chick 2: photo didn't turn out - it's a boy! Green chick:
  16. I'll have to update with photo's over the weekend. What I ended up with is 2 ablino (eldest died), 1 blue, 2 yellow lacewings and a green with a pied spot. I had to remove the mother yesterday as she has been attacking the one's that fledge so poor Jnr Boss is finishing off the last 4 by himself.
  17. Forgot to update here. I had to bring Spike inside as his foster mum and dad stopped feeding him. Unfortunately he died in my hands a couple days later.
  18. I would have rung this lot except I don't have any rings! plus I don't live anywhere near the ring seller for my club. Why I joined a club so far away from me I don't know! I'll get some more pics over the weekend if I have time - allowed to use the hose after 4pm Sunday so the aviary gets an extra clean!
  19. Gorgeous birds! I love the flight shot, they are rather difficult to get them I've found.
  20. Not this time no. I found it when I was greeting her when I came home from work.
  21. Honestly I don't know. Maybe one of the show breeders will see and be able to answer for you.
  22. Boris laid an egg today. Guess I'm a egg mummy?
  23. I'd suggest going to your vet and buying some doxycycline and treat her with it for the next 6 weeks to be on the safe side. Boris eh? My girl Boris is in need of breeding!
  24. Here you go some more pics. He's no good for show as during the wet humid conditions food went goey and stuck to his beak and on trying to carefully take it off found it had grown somewhat into his beak. I had to catch up his foster mum too as she had a huge wad of goo on her beak which even though she hated me grabbing her you could see the relief on her face when I put her back and she started preening. The bonus with this chick is he is so gorgeous and playful!!! He loves to have his head scratched already and knows how to manipulate me into doing all over his head and neck! :(Laughing out loud): Mum has dubbed him Spike so until/unless something different seems more appropriate Spike it is! This is his parents, Supermum and her Husbird just before Supermum lost interest in the chicks:
  25. No editing priveleges allowed so extra post necessary. Lutino from 2 blue series birds is not thier's, I made an error - the skyblue chick belongs to that pair instead.
