  1. Interesting. Luck also plays a large part in breeding budgies too, hard work isn't the beginning and end alone.
  2. Getting the bubble wrap ready . . .
  3. It is more responsibility but also more satisfying as you get a real say in how a forum is run. I won't say congratulations as it isn't a fun thing to do, it is hard work - and you don't get paid for doing it! I trust you will handle your new responsibilities with the same intelligence & compassion with which you handled your moderating duties. I hope you still find the time to continue moderating (and positng) on the WA budgie forum!
  4. Only 1 lacewing, the other 2 are lutino's. No idea which parent was the plucker.
  5. I have bred budgies for many years and have bred other parrots and know exactly what budgies (and other parrots) are capable of. I do not breed in a colony situation. I would never make that mistake with the lovebirds (or other species) as it is well known what they would do.
  6. The "Pied" couples baby has fledged. He's very sweet. The Lutino & Lacewing chicks with their new sibling:
  7. Well this odd looking "budgie" is still doing very well! It is starting to colour up. It is definately the runt of it's nest as it's 2 siblings in the original nest are twice it's size and development. I am thinking I may have a girl here but need more feathers yet.
  8. I was out with the gray opalines parents. Her mother is albino & father normal cobalt. I only have 1 chick left as the second had an extremely bad case of leg splay. Both chicks were feather plucked too so I am not sure if he's opaline.
  9. I reckon the bird would be nice and warm in his pocket sharing his body warmth. Poor bird will never perch, I wonder if he tried to fix the legs? It could well become his best friend and living in his pocket could be quite enjoyable. Probably had seeds in the bottom of his pocket the bird fossicked for. Good on him for loving it so much to risk his job for it. A true bird lover. (Laughing out loud) I've brought birds to work on more than one occasion.
  10. They are only 2 weeks old and the eldest was just getting it's fluffy feathers when I checked Sunday. We shall have to wait for them to colour up - might try and get a picture on the weekend. When going through my breeding records last night (keep them in my head) I do believe that Darcy is a half uncle to the gray opaline hen (who is 2yrs older) who's he's bred with. Problem is I was never 100% sure who her father was - it was either the violet/cinnamon cock above, or a recessive pied cock. Will that add any difference to possibility of chick colouring?
  11. I'll see if I can provide more information on this cock bird. His name is Darcy. This is a picture of him when young: I didn't see any lacewing on him until after his first major moult. He currently has fathered chicks with a gray opaline (naughty boy is only 10 months old!). His lacewing markings are very light and only visible in strong light (or good eyesight). His mum is Albino. This is his father: His father bred Melanistic Spangles - when paired with a Double Factor Spangle hen. This is a male they bred: These are 2 girls they produced (both melanistic spangles) of which Daz bought one & has bred further Melanistics: (Laughing out loud) I hope I didn't balls this up with the extra info!
  12. This is the pair that bred the normal green chick, I don't know if you can tell from the picture if they are DF or SF? The hen died after sudden heatwave. They are both Single Factor? Link to girl - you can just see part of her wings: http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kar...s21-10-2007.jpg
  13. If I bred a DFSpangle to a DFSpangle would all chicks be DFS? If I bred my DFS hen to a white Lacewing cock what would the chicks be? - the cock is split to spangle and albino and melanistic spangle.
  14. Ah! Thank you! I get all these mixed up. Here I was thinking the DF was like a SF but with purple cere for cock! :(Laughing out loud):
  15. Thanks Ravengypsy. What is a DF Dom Pied?
  16. Started this thread here as my question is missed in the breeding posts. I have a beautiful green chick bred from 2 dominant pieds. How come this occured? I thought it would be a given that 2 dom pieds would breed a dom pied chick? The little one doesn't even have a pied spot on it's head.
  17. I use most of what you use Daz, I also have Poly-Aid which I bought after advice from a Parrot breeder when one of my Rosella's got sick - it fixed him right up!
  18. I love the lt Green Spangle, she's a beauty!
  19. No, she was by herself for sometime before I put the box in.
  20. :yellowhead: my mistake!
  21. Very interesting seeing how you are making these Daz. Maybe when you have finished you can edit this thread to remove all these distracting comments so that it can be a continuous stream of your work? That would be good.
  22. Read the whole post Neat. :budgiedance: There are no DFS in the nest, it is a Lacewing. The green baby is a foster from 2 Dom. Pieds.
  23. I just posted 2 14 hours ago!
  24. Here are the chicks now. One of the chicks is a lacewing of all things! Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't 2 Dominant Pieds breed a Dominant Pied? The chick that has been fostered with the Lutino chicks - is Green! Please explain as just when I start to grasp something . . . this happens!
  25. The chick is doing rather well, such good parents! :glare:
