  1. I also "re-arrange the furniture" when I do a major cage clean, and rotate toys etc
  2. Smokey has a mirror for playing with when outside his cage, otherwise, no mirror inside the cage... just a bell, swing and some colourful dangly things. He's most infatuated with his swing... does the same thing (ie holding it with one foot whilst holding the perch with the other and talks lovingly to it etc)... but we won't be taking his swing off him... Like Cosmo, he isn't aggressive or anything about it.
  3. I love this one... having a bit of a smooch in the corner of the cage... you have some really lovely budgies! PS. Glad you stuck around GB!
  4. I also have my budgie's wings clipped, and maintain them myself... my reason was for his safety when flying around the house. He can still fly, but cannot get enough height or speed to fly into anything and do himself too much damage. I learnt the hard way with my previous budgie that budgies at full speed and loungeroom walls don't mix
  5. how many lives are mice supposed to have? I guess that one used them all up between you adn the cat adn the magpie was the last straw!
  6. probably... sounds like a grandma type remedy!
  7. cool... i've got nothing else to offer then!
  8. my nan used to have little open boxes of something in her pantry to keep the moths away... it wasn't moth balls or naphthalene like you put in your linen closet or anything. I think it was bicarb or something... will see if i can google it and get back to you!
  9. Great idea Elly. I was planning on getting him some new millet sprays (that's his weekly treat, but he hasn't had any for a while)... but from now on, I might make them his weekly playgym treat... will also try to convince him that fruit adn veggies on teh playgym are much more exciting than the ones in his cage (he doesn't show any interest in anything but snow pea sprouts!)... perhaps your suggestion will help turn the tables?! ... and yes, i have entered one of the preening pics in the photo comp!
  10. as a kid i had a cat called Horse... perhaps you could name him along those lines if you're after something a little left of centre? Chicken, or Duck? Or maybe something a little more odd, like Ferret or Gerbil?
  11. Glad you're happy... now you know he's a keeper you can give him a name!
  12. We decided to get Smokey a playgym for Christmas as he's a bit of a homebody and is not particularly confident out of his cage and we thought it might give him a "Smokey Space" outside of his cage where he'll feel safe/confident. Anyway, on Christmas morning we unwrapped it for him (yes, we wrap our pet's presents!) and set it up... and here's the end result! Singing at the top of his little voice... he was a bit chuffed with his playgym! We guessed that the fact that he started singing and preening within 15 minutes was a bit of a sign that he was happy with his present!
  13. :tree: Merry Christmas to everybody out there. I have really enjoyed being back in the last six months or so after a bit of an absence. Hope everybody stays safe and enjoys their time with family and friends! All the best! Love from Rose, Dave and Smokey :happy-dancing: :happy-dancing: :bliss:
  14. hehe... i imagine the same thing too... I use the vacuum cleaner to get the feathers and husks out of the corners of Smokey's cage... he just sits there and tweets at it at the top of his voice!
  15. Thanks Elly! Enjoy your Christmas!
  16. Thanks all!! Merry Christmas everyone!
  17. Joey is very cute with his pokey-outy tummy feathers!
  18. They're always SO handsome after a moult!
  19. hehe... shall i mention the wii then? My poor mum was so confused when my husband and I explained that we had spent most of the weekend wii-ing several months ago! She thought we'd been sick with some horrible virus!
  20. good question... mine has just finished his second moult (still a little spikey though ) and the feathers around his beak are difinitely a darker yellow than they were when i got him, and even after his first moult. The rest of his head is still a paler yellow, but the lower part of his face is darker... looks like he's been smelling daisies!
  21. I got my mum a DS for her birthday last year and she loves the brain training games. Her favourite though, is Professor Leyton and the Curious Village... lots of puzzles and things!
  22. That's what my mum used to do with the budgies we had as kids... they were rescues (one from our cat's mouth, one from the noisy miners) and weren't at all tame. It works a treat! If you can't do that, you might be able to get him to step up onto a perch/stick you're holding in your hand, then come out on the perch, perhaps?
