  1. Nubbly is a budgerigar JUDGE .......does that help ?? :hb:
  2. To get a dominant pied chick a parent has to be one. Mum is dom pied not recessive. Chick is gorgeous and you guessed the chicks mutation exactly right :cake: and dad is also split blue.
  3. I have a chick at the moment exactly the same. I have chosen to beef up the calcium to the parents. I do see that the hen sits tight too.

Looks like an uncoded NSW legband and the year of hatching is 2008 and the budgie ring number is 1518
  5. Left to right.........boy, boy/girl and girl. Middle one could go either way, but i think boy. Three clutches is one too many really, depending on how many babies she raised in the other two clutches.
  6. How many days old is this chick? It does look big. Nine days old
  7. So, in theory, "Stupid Fathers" is a trait we would be wanting to select away from, if possible? Sounds like a good plan. Put a legring on the only chick so far in the nestbox today.......nearly didnt fit....its growing so much
  8. We havent found them over here yet....but we are looking How much are they there ? Looks small for show budgies.
  9. Nope Hang on, you are telling me what I thought? Not being rude here, but how would you know what I thought? Like I said, I always understood dominant pieds to be harlequins, and I believe that pet shops actually sold dominant pieds as harlequins. It was not until about 3 years ago that I had even heard the terms recessive and dominant pied. As we all know, there is often a lot of misinformation, misunderstanding, and even misconceptions about pieds. Seems this term is just one more of them. No, not telling you what you thought...just saying NOPE to them being dom pied. As far as petshops calling dom pieds that..they most likely didnt know the difference between a dom pied and a recessive...so one term one use
  10. I've always understood the term Harlequin to be one often used by pet breeders of Recessive Pieds to describe the variety. It's almost never used in exhibition circles. My thoughts exactly
  11. She chose to go to nest the second clutch not being in "breeding condition" so I didnt expect much from this clutch.Might it be worth fostering her chicks and allowing her a third round of eggs? She hasnt raised many in the first round and you could always foster the next round of eggs out to a more reliable brooding/feeding hen. Depends on how hot it is getting and how feasible it is - giving her a week or two with the chicks may allow her to come back into condition before you swap them out and let her lay a final round for this bout of breeding.Just some thoughts Could do...we will see how she copes. At the moment she is real grumpy. Also I dont have many pairs breeding right now so fosters arent happening. She's a good Mum. I wonder if her huge ape of a husband Big Blue is the one damaging the eggs as he goes in and out the nestbox.
  12. Long before I was on this forum, I had never heard of the term dominant pied, but I had heard of Harlequin. A harlequin was what I now refer to as a dominant pied. Harlequin is meant to be recessive pied isnt it.
  13. Here's some show type budgies in recessive pieds Daz's http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....st&p=225600
  14. i am not disagreeing with you. interestingly the term harlequin according to the budgerigar society of pakistan...Refers to a dominant pied i think they got that wrong huh ?
  15. Just wondering Richo......WHY exactly you think he may be a show budgie cull ?
  16. No such mutation. It is a made up name for a recessive pied also known as danish pied. usually of the sky blue gf typeing it is a true name kaz im sorry to start this but..... its just very old school like larruel ..as in green and white wing as in clear wing Harlequin is just a nother name for par blue rec pied or danish pied as you said or golden face rec pied sky blue harlequin was the given name due to the mix of colors so ...although the turm is not used now it still is a turm for them just one most show breeders hate sorry if your going to tell meim wrong cause im right but who cares its corent name is as you stated a...... gf skyblue danish or receive pied it was begain to be used to easily distinguish between breeders blue based no gf birds and their blue based gf birds of rec pied typeing so you are tecnacally right it was made up fort that reason okay mate
  17. Thats very sad Dont beat yourself up over it....you stepped up to the plate and did what you could with the very best of intentions. I am sure it didnt die because of anything you did mate
  18. She chose to go to nest the second clutch not being in "breeding condition" so I didnt expect much from this clutch.
  19. No such mutation. It is a made up name for a recessive pied also known as danish pied.
  20. He's a gorgeous fella....still steps up in my finger in the aviary :hi:
  21. One chick only so far to Big Blue and Spice. There may only be one other. Two eggs were pierced, resulting in dead in shell chicks. Others addled. One other showing fertile.
  22. 22 cms does not make a show budgie unfortunately or we would all be at the nationals with every long bird we had.
