Baby Budgie Wanted For Tame Pet
Please bear in mind that handraised baby budgies only stay tame when trained daily. If left to their own devices they become as flighty as any aviary bred budgie. Mum in her 60's would have to handle and train daily to keep the budgie tame and rarely do budgies want to go back in their cage on their own at first or even later so your Mum would have to learn to either catch with a net or train the budgie for going back into the cage. Personally, I would buy your Mum and male canary that can sing its heart out and be happy in its cage...... UNLESS your Mum is okay about ongoing training of a budgie ? PS Budgies bite too........especially females. Some of our elderly friends and relatives are on blood thinning medications and you would have to be aware that a bite can draw blood and may possibly be an issue. My Dad gave up his birds once he was in this position as bites wouldnt stop bleeding when they should. Sorry if I have grabbed a hold of the wrong end of the stick but these things must be thought through.

Unclear Diagnosis
Pesticide woulod kill not just make a bird sick on an ongoing basis. Re the grass from outside and dirt thing.......my birds get seeding grasses picked WITH DIRT ( not organic ) and they relish the roots and dirt more than the top half most of the time. Sometimes people can overthink the simplest of things and make a birds life and food so flippin sterile and OVERSAFE. What do you think birds in the wild get ? They dont go cruising around looking for organic farms before they start eating. ps I am not a pellets believing person. Pellets could be made up of any kind of rubbish for all we know.........could be the scrapings of a grainery floor....you wouldnt know. By the time its cooked up to a mush, destroying any natural vitamins and minerals, then have them added back in artifically as well as **** to preserve it you end up with a product that ISNT NATURAL, can't be found in the wild, and can also be very suspect as far as contributing to a birds state of health or not...............at the end of all that you have lost me as a pellets customer. Read this http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=29493 AND THIS http://forums.budgie...showtopic=18890 and be a little more informed than the blurb vets and others give you over pellets versus seeds. I am a firm believer in the fact vets use the pellet argument as a kneejerk reaction to pet birds kept on a seed only diet ( not added vegies or extras ) and kept in small confined spaces so both bad diet and lack of exercise contribute to severe issues including overweight...........hence the mass push for pelleted diets. NOW I do hope your pretty budgie gets better, but please try the KISS method........KISS means "keep it simple stupid " ........just an aussie saying but essentially means keep things simple and dont get tied up in knots over pellets, packeted diet foods etc. Plain good brand seed with extras, meds where needed only.

I Can Feel The Keel Bone On My Budgie :(
If I was to follow this advice I would have dead and starving budgies all over the place. I strongly disagree with supplying only a measured amount of food. Birds needs change all the time. Sometimes they eat more than others, and as mentioned before they may only eat certain parts of their seed mix. Always have plenty of seed available at ALL TIMES...........and forget what you hear about measuring out teaspoonsful or tablespoonsful.

Leg Rings
- Cheap And Decent Bird Seed
Dont know where you got that from ? Post it- Fungus' Future
I was suggesting feet and legs only. The ivermectin will deal with the beak etc. Once it gets to that stage oil on beak and around face is useless. However will benefit the feet and legs.- Farewell Quiche
- Fungus' Future
I am glad you have him and have addressed his health issues. HUGE HUGE neglect to have allowed it to get to this stage and to a point where he was starving due to not being able to eat well enough with his beak like that. I say he because most members are saying this, but chances are he may be a she too as females not in breeding condition will have blue on the cere. You wont really know till this clears up some. You can speed it all up a bit by rubbing oil into its feet and legs. As far as reporting goes, my experience with the RSPCA is they are a toothless tiger and rarely would do anything in this case. Thank God he/she has landed safely in your loving care is all I can say..........- Nesting Boxes
The warn thing is for those bad bad forum members who need to be told off by staff on more than one occasion...repeatedly bad behaviour equates to warnings and eventually banning from the forum...the only one who can see their warning percentages is the member themselves and staff not other members.- Nesting Boxes
Good to know. Many thanks from all of us for the link supplied. I buy a 40 kilo bag of flakey bran from the stock feed places for about $18 so that last me a very long time and is cheap and edible and safe.- Are These Pied Markings?
I just think you need to wait a few days and not read too much into the pink end of the wings till some more colour and feathering develops- Budgie Flew Outside
Best thing to do with shock or fright or illness is put their cage by a warm lamp until you see some kind of improvement- Nesting Boxes
If you put nestboxes in the aviary that was all the incentive they needed. No nestboxes and it wouldnt have happened. Make sure that any birds in the aviary where nestboxes are are over 12 months of age or either find another place for the underaged ones to be or dont have nestboxes in the aviary. read this http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=28294&hl= and all the links in that article and you may well want to rethink colony breeding. CARE FRESH is not available in australia. You need a concave in the nestbox and if you want to add some extra nesting materials use either flakey bran or dry rolled oats ( porridge oats ) ....both edible and both not dangerous in any way at all. also read this Care of Baby Budgies in the Nest and this Splayed Legs In Budgie Babies- Help !
- Hey Guys
FAQ section.........button top left of forum page.- Hey Guys
Funkypanda, I doubt that you have looked through the FAQ section. If you had, you would have come up with some specific questions, and NOT be saying "even though there is probably nothing to worry about." If you had read up on all the aspects of raising a clutch, you would be aware that there are PLENTY of things that can go wrong, and that you need to worry about in advance. Please don't vaguely ask us for general tips on breeding. That is the same as saying "Please teach me everything all at once right here in this thread." That would be like re-writing the whole fourm. It's all already out there. Look around, read stuff, and then ask for clarification of the parts you don't understand. As for your supposed "male" that this really good budgie breeder told you you had, you stated previously that when you got "him", it had a crusty brown cere, which then flaked off. That tells you it is a FEMALE. Here are some photos of breeding cages. (courtesy of Splat's post) (Courtesy of Daz' post) (courtesy of Kaz' post) You can see that they are rectangular, and wide. The nest box usually attaches on the outside of the cage to leave more room inside for the parents. Funky, the best way to learn about breeding is to spend some time reading the FAQs, and reading threads written by experienced breeders. Learn from how they do things. Do your homework, though. Even if you ask us for tips, and we were to regurgitate everything we know, YOU still have to take the time to read the answers. Please, take the time to read what's already here. You will note cages are wider and nestboxes FITTED OUTSIDE THE CAGE. an ideal cage set up for breeding- Nesting Boxes
Have you got a wooden concave already in your nesting box ?- Help!
