Budgie Goes Mad ! Stressed ?
Since he pulled them straight out they should begin to grow back in soon and may already be doing so. I will have a closer look tomorrow

Fireworks
Hard to know how the birds would react. My cavalier Cricket throws herself at the back door in panic over fireworks. Maybe if you have a suitable sized tarp you could throw it over the aviary and see if it helps. Fireworks near the budgies at the nationals is not a good idea ....is it

Budgie Goes Mad ! Stressed ?
This can be true in the case of hens stressed in the nestbox and chicks who learn this in the nestbox and squark and dive under each other in panic. I dont know if the same is true of the dads. Most often its the hens that have these issues. Time will tell if he does this all the time when breeding. Maybe after a very long holiday I should let him choose his own hen.

Budgie Goes Mad ! Stressed ?
He is really good. He stopped mutilating his feathers upon removal from the breeding cage and he is in a holding cage with three or four other budgies and he has had no further problems.

Those photos werent taken in the nestboxes....they were in an icecream tub for the photos. Nestbox materials ? I start out with flaky bran or rolled oats. At the stage of chicks being two weeks onwards the nestbox get a good serving of budgie seed to teach them to eat early. New piks

Weather was okay. There was roadworks firther ahead making the whole area slow and traffic jams etc. We had all just braked and slowed down and then we were all off again and no sooner had we all accellerated to move forward, someone up ahead braked again as suddenly and we all crashed into each other. Lol, i was thinking of an intersection when you said pile up . insurance covering it?? and your okay right? I am not too bad....got some bruising from me hitting the steering wheel but all good. Insurance claims all to be sorted out.
