  1. Another thing....... He is a she
  2. Budgie breeder seed......premium ...no sunflower or oats.
  3. do you have trays underneath the perches ? anything else would be scrape and clean, vacuum out scrub walls with white vinegar sprayed on. Sandpaper any grotty perches or walls if they wont come clean.
  4. Vet says nothing. It is the weekend and my avian vet isnt on till Tuesday.
  5. MDF will absorb any water, cleaning product and poop. Have they been painted or sealed in any way ? If not why are you using MDF cabinets which will soak up any moisture and be harmful to birds if they chew it ?
  6. Possible I dont subscribe to the spider bite theories where birds are concerned so I doubt that. Deficiency ..no doubt it. Besides he was only checked by the vet recently and as far as some days ago was fine in the aviary. Barely three isnt middle aged in my book. Stroke is possible but he is fine all apart from his feet
  7. Of course he cant be bred in this condition That goes without saying. The fact he wasnt okay in the aviary is what drew my attention to him and why I pulled him out of there. The foot thing has happened since pulling him out of the aviary but must have been a condition that was beginning thus making him look like he was struggling in the aviary. And a bird with a problem or health issue should not be put back in the aviary. Here are photos anyway he tries to perch but cannot stay up Arthritis I am not sure. But it seems to have come on sudden not gradually.
  8. Yeah.....the fact thats its both feet is different
  9. I pulled a cockbird out of the aviary the other day as he was spending a lot of time on the floor of the aviary and I thought he was having a hard moult. He has been in a warm lamp cage inside the breeding room for a few days. Just checked him again and he was waddling around the floor of the cage and walking funny. He seemed to have a sore foot. I picked him up and both his feet are the same. They are both kind of frozen and wont move...........paralysed. They are rigid and wont bend, wont grip, like the toes are spread out and he can use his legs but his feet arent working and they are like paddles....he can support himself on his feet but cant use them. Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be going on ? Apart from all this he is acting bright enough.
  10. The black sunflowers seeds seem harder hulls, so serve the grey striped ones. You can get hilled oats at any stockfeed or bird supply place
  11. Handsome fellow wasnt he
  12. wait for the REAL PHOTOS before any further comment. It would be the sensible thing to do
  13. The original poster of this topic STILL has not posted a picture of her aviary so anything "similar" is pure guesswork at this stage. Squeak crumble has confused the topic by posting her own aviary pictures Why dont we all wait till photos are posted before further comment or suggestions in this topic
  14. He needs a rest, so I will let him recuperate and try him again in a few months.
  15. Its always been my way to know I had a DF hatch in a nest, but once the cinnamon theory was put forward I thought that made sense too.
  16. Thanks for sharing DAVE. Great seeing the contrast of australian trees and african animals. Can also see the family resemblance in your nephews to you as well
  17. Got photos of the other baby ? Pity the mother to these was such a #$@#%^ or we could have tried a second round
  18. I will check tomorrow.
  19. The Daddy of the two greywings in that nest bred by forum member JeffL and cock is a purple ringer ( 5 years old ) In saying two greywings .............. I am wondering about that...as the youngest doesnt have grey tail feathers.....they look neutral.........pale so not greywing........dilute maybe ?
  20. Weird the colour aspect. I took the chick out for photos and what I am seeing is lavender blue feathering and cheek patches are lavender too but when I took photos the photos show blue and blue blues and violets must be the hardest thing to photograph and get the colours right So.........here is what I am seeing ( photoshopped to show true colour ) and this is how the photos turn out
  21. I havent tried bananas yet with my birds. I might now that you said how yours loves it
  22. Hi Robyn Just wanted to point out a few things. If her aviary is similar to my picture, then she would have room for more birds. I have fit 12 budgies in there happily with space for more. Also, just because you breed birds, it does not mean you need to keep them. Most people sell babies as pets, or to a shop. There is no point to this UNTIL a picture of the aviary is posted. I certainly wouldnt breed four pairs of budgies colony style in an aviary like yours squeak crumble. Been there, done that with colony breeding and wont do it again. I suggest all debate stops on this topic until we see the actual set up which has not yet occurred
  23. Yeah SHE IS SO UNUSUAL. tHE GREYWING CHICK HAS JUST FLEDGED THE NESTBOX TOO (oops caps )
