  1. I guess so, or I might have to watch and see if he chooses his own female.
  2. I meant the missing piece of wood next to the door. Did you check the vines up top for mouse nests or mice ? Any mice going through your breeder cages will make the budgies very very sick.
  3. My old Dad used to say Necessity is the motherhood of invention so good for you making use of the ol dunny PS block the hole though wont you or rats, snakes or mice will get in.

That is brilliant news mate !! Really the best
  5. Best of diet with extras like vegies should mean no need for a multi vitamin anyway. Budgies should have the best diet leading up to, during and through breeding and raising chicks. If you provide everything so they are in optimum health there should be no need for vitamins in water and any risks with it. I might use calcivet in the water for a couple of days in the week but thats about all.
  6. The egg will be useless...throw it out and wait to see if she lays better eggs as time goes along.
  7. often these finch sized eggs have no yolks and are "mistake" eggs. they can indicate an issue the hen has with shaping and forming her eggs. Time will tell with that. I have a hen who lays aussie rules football shaped eggs...long and pointed at each end. She kept doing it so I put her back in the aviary.
  8. Rain getting in is no good, eh Shannon here is the end that needed work came in about a metre in each end of each flight. so ken covered the roof of the popout sections with some clear sheets we had and we will see if more needs sorting out as well There is also a couple of leaks half way down the flights where my white laserlite sheets join the metal sheets, so I will have to wait till they dry out and then use silicone to seal them.
  9. Not yet....well what I mean is they are the size of normals but not the biggest normals. Need some good size normal hens to breed to the greywing cocks to get better splits from.
  10. he is in the aviary and looking better
  11. Its been raining hard here for at least 5 days and enough to test any aviary for leaks. I am not too happy that the popout end of the aviary lets water in so even though its still raining and Ken has trouble with getting up ladders....he is out there adding clear sheets to the roof of the popout section and also to the end so the rain doesnt come in and make the bird sick. What a good lad he is sometimes PS I didnt make him do it. His choice
  12. Age no. Cold weather breeding and eggbinding most likely. If a hen ever dies while breeding or nesting ALWAYS feel for an egg then you will know and not have to guess.
  13. Vet appointment booked for late Tuesday afternoon. The soonest I could get him seen.
  14. Entering the budgie of the month competition is easy. Its no different to posting in any other topic. You put your photo in this section as a normal add reply. At some point one of the staff will make this photo invisible so dont worry if after awhile you dont see it. Too easy
  15. You said she is still laying ?? If so how do you know you arent taking her new eggs ?
  16. Not the same. This is both feet, no legs involved.
  17. White eggs are fertile. peachy looking pinkish ones arent. BUT if she is still laying ? then some wont show as fertile yet.
  18. okay. What colour are the eggs ?
  19. I think its a nerve thing too. He tries to perch. Last night he was in a cage and sitting halfway up a ladder.
  20. Why are they breeding in a cage in the aviary ?
  21. There is never a need to take eggs anywhere to candle them. Candling can and should always be done in the nest without touching the eggs. Budgies cannot count so rarely notice missing eggs or extra eggs. I never take a bird straight from breeding and put into the aviary if I can help it. they need a rest cage for at least a week to build back up and eat well before the aviary stresses.
  22. How cute Good story that has a happy ending
  23. Did you feel to see if she had an egg in or near to her vent ? Chances are high she died of eggbinding. Oftena hen in a nestbox isnt noticed being eggbound. Cold weather doesnt help with egglaying.
