  1. You know I didn't even notice that in the pictures Now I can understand why I thought the tail was so long. Keep an eye on him now, you might have to bring him in any moment so he doesn't hurt himself out in the big cage. Is he getitng any flight feathers growing through? It kinda looks like it in the first picture. I'm not sure which feathers are flight feathers. When he was 2days old his dad bit the ends away (not sure if you've seen the posts about this). Do you think I can open his wing carefully and take a photo? I don't want to hurt him. They are in a small cage now, I've put some perches lower, so he can try to sit on them when he's ready. But he is on the bottom and exploring. I'll just leave him there for a while, so he can see all the staff around and then I'll put him back to his box :ausb:
  2. They are very cute I'm very happy - now Mayo jumped out and is sitting on the floor of the cage (can't really climb, because his toes and wings I think). He started to call for food and his naughty daddy (who's separated in cage under them) was FEEDING HIM throw the bars I was so scared that he will attack them again :ausb:
  3. Yes, the dad is opaline, I think Juli is going to be like him just a bit lighter. I would like to tame them all a bit, but because they will live together, they propably woun't care about me so much Bambi is cute - he is actually most friendly from all of them and is very loud !!! Do they look happy on my hand ? They are still quite scared (Juli and Mayo are hiding anywhere they can and Bambi is trying to run/fly/jump away )

He is sooo handsome Especially I love the third picture - very cute.
  5. Thank you a lot anyway. I love Juli's colour too
  6. Here are my baby budgies (about 4 weeks old now), can you say if they are males or females and maybe what colour they could be (if possible to say now)? Thank you :budgiedance: Mayo Juli Bambi
  7. Thank you all :budgiedance: !!! I'll take some pics later and send them here. I've looked at the opaline lovebirds and they are talking about "split to opaline" - how does it look like? This is the mum and dad
  8. I've got veeery old book about breeding budgies, so I thing I'm gonna have a look - I'm interested in the budgie genetics now
  9. Thank you all I'll try to take some better pictures tomorrow (it's night here now ) and I'll post them

Soooo beautiful budgies . The rainbow male in your last post is gorgeous! What kind of perch is the one he is sitting on? I haven't seen perch like that yet
  11. Wow that sound quite difficult . In "New pics in budgies pictures" Hurdybirdy told me that if daddy is opaline and mum is not, any opaline babies will be females (mum is grey and I think the chicks are opaline). I've had no idea that there are sooo many things to look at when you breed budgies
  12. Thank you lovey, I was just looking at budgiebird pictures of Kaya (who is about the same age as my chicks) and she knows Kaya is female, so I thought there could be some more signs to look at. I don't really mind if the're males or females (I'll keep them anyway ), but I've read that you should have either couples or more males, so the females don't fight for the males. So I would have to get more male budgies if they're females - I would actually love it (not sure about the rest of my family )
  13. I'm not sure if the pictures are clear enough to see it. If yes, what do you think? Mayo Juli Bambi PS: By the way - Mayo has got quite dark beak (the other two have dark brown spots on their beaks), is that common? Thanks

Nice picture, I can see all the juice on his face - so cute My budgies don't want to eat anything like that. Now their favourite thing to eat is an orange flavour mineral block - so their faces look very orange (scary )
  15. Thanks Daz for your tips - I've put spray of millet to the box now Bea, do you use "a pure apple" baby food? I've just bought 2 kinds: One is apple with oat flakes and the other is from apple, peach and banana - but they both have added sugar, vit. C and lemon acid - is that safe for the chicks?

Cool photo - it looks like Dean is talking to Sinatra, and he turned his head to listen
  17. I've tried and made a mix from mashed apple, crashed biscuit, a bit of crashed peeled seeds and a bit of water (to make it more liquid) and the babies loved it !!! I gave them just a little bit - because it's new for them. Thanks a lot for your tips :hap:
  18. Thank you, that is a good idea :rip: , I'll try !!!
  19. Thanks a lot Rainbow, I'll try it :ausb:
  20. I was thinking, when I handle chicks, could I actually give them something to eat (like a treat)? How old should they be, so it wouldn't harm them? My oldest chick is going to be 4 weeks old tomorrow. Is there something safe to give them? Thank you :grbud:
  21. I've just given them egg mixed with grated peppers, lettuce, crumbs and seeds. They are ignoring it, maybe later
  22. All these recipes look so good. I'm going to try to make some now. My budgies don't want to eat things like egg, fruit, ... I've bought them dried egg food with honey for budgies - quite expensive Now in winter there are not many veg. to give them. They love ice lettuce, cucumber, green pepper sometimes. But they don't want carrot, apple, broccoli,... In summer I give them some grass from our garden (washed), is that okay for them? They love it! I hope they will eat some of the food I'm going to make
  23. Nice big cage. And I like the triangle swing inside - a week ago I bought similar one, just round one
