  1. I will try. I have to borrow my husbands work camera first. I think the budgie might be grey wing or dilute or something like that. But not a spangle.
  2. I went to the breeder on sunday. I was a bit disappointed  . His birds looked okay, but the aviaries were small, dirty, he is colony breeding with tiels in the same aviary. And I think it's a bit cold here to still have them outside with no roof and no shelter. He was a young boy and I felt like telling him what I think but I know it's quite normal here - for lots of people budgies are not as cool as the big parrots (I guess it's because they are very cheap here) And he actually had two of his aviaries in a pig stable - very smelly and I think the smell must be toxic for birds. But after he caught the budgie I went to look at (the budgie was outside), I felt sorry for her and bought her (she looks healthy, only her back toes are not 100% straight). She is in a quarantine and I will be watching her closely. But I don't think I'm going to breed her. He had some nice YF blue spangle babies (still in a box), they were pieds I think. But he is going to send me a pictures of them when they're older and if they look healthy and one of them is a female, I might buy one more bird from him (as I cannot find YF blue spangle anywhere). But no more . This is the girl I got
  3. I agree with Elly, it's nice but not wide enough to fly. But I guess if your budgie gets lots of flying out in your room then it's okay

Your budgies are very pretty !!!
  7. I don't know his parents, so will have to wait and see. I'm going to the guy on sunday. Maybe he has the type I'm looking for, I will have a look
  8. That's cool Bea, it must be so funny
  9. Hi, the size of the cage is nice, but be careful with the bar spacing - this one looks like it's for bigger parrots, so budgie could escape through the bars or hurt himself (his head could get caught in the space). The spacing for budgie shouldn't be bigger then 13 milimeters. I don't know about the price in Australia, try to look on ebay, maybe you find some good prices :budgiedance: I found some cages, I'm not sure how big is the cage you liked, but this one looks nice and big as well and the bar spacing is 1/2" (13mm), so it's okay for budgie Cage I just realized the link I posted is USA not Australian, but I can't find similar one on an Australian websides
  10. Thanks Norm, yes I know, I'm planing to wait - I'm not in hurry to breed :budgiedance:

Thanks a lot Elly. I'm not going to breed any birds till I'm sure I have the time and money to deal with anything that could happen. I wouldn't give up my pets "just because we are going to have a baby". I love them too much . I'm just more sensitive and worried now and I think all the time (I guess it's a part of being pregnant ). I feel I will be okay once I get used to everything. I'm just worried I guess lots of people have pets and babies and they are okay, so I should be okay too . And I believe it's better for kids to grow up around animals, they learn to be nice to animals. I loved animals when I was small, I think most kids do. Thanks a lot again
  13. I don't breed now either, but I would definately do selective breeding. I think colony breeding is too dangerous and I think it's more difficult to control everything. If I get the chance to breed, I will breed in breeding cages.
  14. That's cool, I hope I can get them here. Or I will test what cuts it the best before I put it on a budgie
  15. Thank you Kaz, I think I will order some later, if I start breeding :hap: . Are they easy to cut off in emeregency (without hurting the leg)? They are made from aluminium I think.

Hey guys, I would like to ask you who has kids, is it very difficult to take care of a baby and birds at the same time? I know it sounds a bit strange, but I'm having my first baby, so I'm not 100% sure how much time baby takes (I know it takes a lot in the begin, but I think later, when I get used to all the new things it should be okay ?!? ). I know some women on a maternity leave who is so bored and don't know what to do with all the time. So I thought maybe I should have enough time for my birds . I thought I would start breeding next summer - when the baby is a bit older (but I will still think about it) I will be happy for any advise. Of course I will do my best to take care of all of them well, but I guess I'm just scared a bit :hap: Thank you
  17. I was trying to find out how it works with ringing chicks in my country. I'm thinking about ringing my chicks, so when they go to their new homes and they get lost or something (and someone finds them), I would know if it's my bird and I could find the person whom I sold the chick to. I contacted a company which makes and sells rings and they said I can ring them even when I don't belong to any club. The rings would have country mark, a year, a number and I could have some symbols on it too, so I know it's a bird from me (I thought about my initials+2 numbers). And they said ringed birds sell better, as the buyers can be sure how old the bird is and where it comes from. I'm just thinking if I should do it or not. I've read a lot about birds getting caught in something by the ring and twisting their leg, etc. What do you think guys? Should I ring them or is it better not to. Thanks a lot for any suggestions PS: The color for next year here is blue and the rings are so cheap :hap:
  18. Congratulations :hap:

They are beautiful birds !!! :hap:
  20. He is very cute. And I love the name too. It's funny, if you spell "Nanook" differently "Nanuk" it's another word for an icecream in czech (slang probably) :hap:
  21. He is very cute :hap:
  22. I found a guy near me who is selling some budgies. I described to him what budgie I'm looking for and he sent me these photos. The budgie in the first picture looks female to me, and YF skyblue opaline maybe. It doesn't look like a spangle. The second is blurry, but looks female YF skyblue opaline as well. Maybe it's the same bird :hap: I think I will visit him and have a look at his birds
  23. Thanks a lot Elly I hope I got the mutations right. I will post some pictures later, maybe I got them wrong . But it's just plans for now, I must wait for next year anyway.
  24. 1. Skyblue opaline spangle male + Light green opaline spangle female? 2. Mauve Dominant pied spangle male + YF blue female? 3. Green opaline male + Normal skyblue female? I found somewhere that from 2 spangles you get 50% spangles, but I don't know for sure. Thanks a lot
