  1. Yeah they were. I just didnt know because I thought that would be a good idea to keep them in something like that when they are a little older. thanks for the response
  2. yeah that might be it. I remember awhile ago while I was at the bird store they had some baby budgies in a fish tank. There were maybe 6, they were all really young, but all their feathers were grown in.
  3. Also I have another quick question, but I did not want to make a new topic. When some people have baby budgies, I have noticed that they will put them in a fish tank with some bedding at the bottom. My question is when people do this are they hand feeding? or do they have the mother feed and when they are old enough do they put them in the tank?
  4. oh okay thank you for clearing that up for me
  5. Hey all! I jus have a quick question, well I know in the green and blue budgies the cere turns crusty brown when the hen is in breeding condition. But is that the same in all female budgies? In some does the cere not change at all? Even in the males, I know some turn light to dark blue, but in some I heard they can still be in "breeding condition" if the cere is pink or purple in certain colors. Is this true? Thank you
  6. Wow thank you. From the picture he looks recessive, but when I hold him, I can see little iris rings forming when he moves his eyes. I took this picture when my friend brought him over to see if I wanted him. He is in quarentine now.
  7. These two budgies are too young to breed, I just wanted to know if anyone could tell me ahead of time wha color babies they would produce. The female is dominant pied green opaline clearwing, and the male I think is a yellow doublefactor dominant pied. Here is a picture of them together.
  8. Yeah that is the one on my hen. I wanted to find out what the colors mean, because I thought some meant they were born in a different year.
  9. Yeah I didnt think he would say straight to my face that my budgie passed away, I would rather do it over the phone. Oh okay, so is the split ring sometimes used in place of the id bands? That is what theh male has on his leg, and my female has a reddish/orange id band.
  10. Sadly no , do you remember when I said I went to the vet because she was sick? Well when I got there the vet had told me she had passed away. The weird thing is he did not call me to tell me, he just told me to stop by. How did you remember that? Also does anyone have any budgies with a light green plastic band?
  11. Yes, I am extremely glad so many of you responded, and had really great opinions on this topic. This is a very hard topic to dicuss about I think. thanks
  12. Yeah they would be in seperate rooms. I will give my friend a call and tell him he can bring him back over tomorrow. I just wanted to get your opinions on me getting another budgie this quick. But he seems to be a really nice male. Just look at him
  13. Yeah I have some extra cages that are not in use. I have two cages going right now. And I have done it before. Haha yeah it wont be a problem with clean-up. I think I can handle it. So would it be okay to take them both out at the same time during the day? Or take them out at a seperate time?
  14. I have the room, the only reason I wouldnt want to is because, I just got Echo, and I dont know some people I talked to said I am jumping into this too quick. But I have the time, and space for him, so I am thinking why wouldnt I
  15. Hey all. I have some good news, but I am not sure if I should do it or not. He is the budgie that is mostly all yellow. My friend came over with a male budgie today, I think he was a dominant pied. He asked me if I wanted to take him, to be a partner for my new budgie Echo. I didnt really know what to do. So I told him I would call him tomorrow. I wanted to get all of your opinions. Oh and here are some pictures of them both. They got along really well. Oh and he said this budgie was not tame . I seemed to get along with him quite fine, they would both stand on my finger. Although once he got on something he was hard to get off, no matter how much you pushed on his lower stomach. Again sorry for the large pics, but I do not know how to resize them http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a94/hops523/000_0610.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a94/hops523/000_0607.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a94/hops523/000_0606.jpg
  16. Hey all, I have read a few different articles online about breeding budgies. I didnt know much about inbreeding in budgies, so I did a search on it. I came across an article that said if you want to carry certain genes then it is okay to inbreed. For example: I think it said if you breed a mother budgie and the son, then you will be carrying out the mothers genes, and vise versa with the father and daughter. But I have also come across a few articles that say make sure to get budgies that are not related if you want to breed. What are your opinions on inbreeding? Just to say I am not going to inbreed, actually I cant even breed right now, my budgies are either too young or too old. I just wanted to know.
  17. Yeah this budgie was hard to tell for me. It seemed her wing color could be more than two things at once . Even though the breeder told me she was 12 weeks old, it was hard for me to be 100% sure, because there were no stripes near her cere. Thank you for clearing this up. Oh do you know what colored bands are for 06?
  18. does anyone know with the better pics?
  19. yeah it seems there are a number of things that she could be. We need to get to the bottom of this haha
  20. okay here is the best cere picture I could get. Sorry if this is too big again, I cant figure out how to make it smaller.
  21. Oh that is great advice, not too long at all. Wow those are some really good ideas, thank you for sharing with me :ausb:
  22. okay, but since the untamed one is a lot older wouldnt she be the leader?
  23. Thank you. Lately I have been researching on breeding. I do not know if I am going to breed, as I have no experience with breeding budgies, but I thought this would be as good as a time as ever to start. Except for the fact that she is way too young. And that I have a lot more research to do. I am still debating if I want to or not. If I did I would breed her with a blue and white dominant or recessive pied, but I have a lot of work and research to do, before I really consider it.
  24. Just out of curiousity, would having two tame budgie have more of a "influence" on an untamed budgie? Rather than just one tamed budgie?
