Thats why I was so surprised and questioning there judgement on their age. Because they look so young. That picture was taken 3 months ago. Yeah the best idea would be to wait, but how long?

Hey all, I would just like to let everyone know about the conversation I had with the breeder I got one of my budgies from, she said that she had made some sort of mistake when she told me the age of the female budgie (Echo) she gave me a couple months ago. I guess it turns out that right now she is somewhere around 13 months old . I guess when I got her she was around 10 months old. This was a shock to me because I think she sort of looks young. This was somewhat of a weird day today, because of the mistake the breeder made, I decided to call my friend who gave me my male (Bugs) to make sure I was correct on his age. I thought that he was about 10 months old, BUT there was a misunderstanding between him and me. To make a long story short, it turns out that Bugs is about 12-12 and a half months old :hap: . The reason I posted this is the breeding area was because I was wondering if I could add a breeding nest today? This was probably one of the strangest days I have had for a long time.

It could be the pellets possibly, altough they are not new. I feed them a pellet mixed with some seed diet, it could be that they are just eating more of the pellets now.

Hey all, I have noticed that my budgies have had brown/reddish droppings. It is not the normal dark color. Has this happend to any of your budgies? I havent noticed any change in their behavior.

Well I got very surprised today, I went to the pet store and they had a long budgie cage. It is about 30 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 18 inches tall. Is this large enough for my two budgies? And I am thinking it is too small to breed in right?

Yes I was planning on getting a bigger cage as soon as I could, but I didnt even think of that (Laughing out loud). I will have to start looking. I went to the store a couple days ago, but most of them were either tall like mine, or just as long as they are tall.

No not that I have noticed.

When I let them out in an open area most of the time they will stay together, but the female can fly and the male cant because he had his wings clipped, so most of the time yes they will stay together. And if they are in more of an enclosed area like a smaller room then they will stay right with eachother.

no she is over 6 months. So is the male I think he looks young than 6 months because he kept his "baby stripes" and he is recessive. So you think that the last one is male? Also another weird thing was yesterday right after I posted on here, the male just went crazy and started to preen and feed my female. I dont know what got into him.

Sorry about your Louy. Since it pretty much is impossible to stop a budgie from climbing, nail clipping I think could prevent stuff like that.

I second what Phoebe said. I think that your saying that you have a male? You could get another male and they would do well together, since males tend to get along great. If you want a friend for your budgie that is what I would recommend.

Really I didnt know that. Is it normal for the male to hack back at her? Because sometimes he is the one starting the contraversies. Most of the time the female does all the preening and feeding. Usually how long does this stage take, a fews months? I will try to get some good pics of their ceres, but I usually never can haha thank you

Well I am almost positive now that I have a male and female, or at least a female. My female has a light cere and if you look close you can tell that it is turning brown around the nostrils. But yesterday it was strange, for about 3 minutes they were preening and feeding eachother, then about 5 mintues later they started to fight again. Can anyone help me with this odd relationship?

Are you figuring out if Pretty is male or female? If so I hope you get it answered . I have a what I think a male recessive, but I am not sure now. His cere looks like Pretty's cere almost

This fighting thing is occurring again, its been a couple weeks since they have gone at it. I am really confused. Now the female is becomng more involved in it though, instead of letting the male boss her around. But I really do not know what to do. I thought they had a bond. They used to preen eachother and feed eachother more often, but again in the last couple of days they havent. I took them out and changed up the cage a little bit, but it didnt work. I wanted to breed these two when they were older, but it almost seems they are losing their bond. What should I do?

I also have one more quick question. Rite now my budgies are on a pellet/seed mix diet with greens, and an egg supplement every once in awhile. I have a cuttle bone, and mineral block in the cage. When they are old enough and ready to breed would this diet be enough to get them in breeding condition?

Wow I did not know that. That explains alot haha. Here I am confused thinking what is wrong with my budgie? But wow I thought they all lost their baby stripes.
