Cheeky

Hiya, I don't know if you remember but a few weeks back Cheeky had to go to the vet. He has been on antibiotics for nearly three weeks now and he's still not getting better. His poops are still really wet and the white bit is runny and separated from the greeny bit. Sometimes he is a bit hot too and i think his bottom might be bothering him a wee bit as he looks like he is trying to scratch it with his foot! . He is really chirpy though and he doesn't look unwell - still eating and drinking and running about like a loonatic!! Was thinking about stopping the antibiotics and giving him a couple of days before taking him back to the vet - does anybody have any other suggestions? ps i've also noticed that he is trying to eat fluffy things like the carpet, jumpers etc. am I not feeding him something he needs or is this just a budgie thing?? yeah I have to agree. my budgies have eaten and drinken loads of things that they aren't supposed (chocolate, beer, rhubarb etc) too and they have never had any problems - as long as they just have a wee bit. saying that, I have stopped (well cut back) on that since I joined this site!

hiya, when I was at the avian vet recently he recommended that you don't give them too much fruit as it can give them yeast problems. My budgie is the same with the wine and beer - he's getting used to being batted away now!

Hi Yoyo, was just wondering how you got on with those sonar traps? we are having the same problem - been using traps and chocolate and we have caught quite a few but I hate having to pick up their wee bodies. was going to try the deterrant instead. any good? thanks ali

Hi everybody, just thought i'd let you know how cheeky got on at the vet today. he did a poop smear and it was fine. Said that he wasn't too thin like the other vet said and that as long as he was eating and is chirpy then he should be okay. The antibiotics seem to be doing the trick so we got another couple of weeks worth and also some probiotic stuff too. Obviously i've got to keep an eye on him and if there's any cause for concern then i will take him back. Things are looking good!! :budgiedance:

They prefer corn to peas and if broccoli is in with their spinach, they spit it out !! Ha Ha that's soo funny! they certainly know what they like and what they don't!

Ha Ha!! I struggle to get him to eat anything that's good for him!! He'll only eat it if you do - its a nightmare!!!

Cheeky isn't well - had him at the vets today (see post "trip to the vets") and have to take him to the avian vet on wednesday. was just wondering in case the vet wants to do it. hopefully it won't come to that though. Thanks

Hi there how safe is it for a budgie to have a blood test? is it a bit risky? thanks ali

erm, i changed his seed to see if that was causing his smelly habit that some people mentioned could be an allergy or him regurgitating. He has been drinking a lot, and he tends to run round the carpet eating any crumb he can find! we have also been giving him more vegetables and fruit because he hadn't been getting any before.

There is a lot more water and they are a bit lighter in colour than normal - still quite solid though. sometimes the white bit is seperate from the coloured bit. He is still chirpy and happy although he has been a bit traumatised after his vets visit!! I'm trying not to get too worried because the vet i saw today wasn't an expert so hopefully he's got it wrong. Thanks for the hug it was much appreciated

hey just an update on cheekys visit to the vet. well it didnt exactly go according to plan. He was supposed to just get his toes trimmed but i mentioned that his poops had been a bit runny. Vet said he might have liver problems but has given him antibiotics just in case he's got an infection. I have phoned the avian vet and i have got an appointment for wednesday. Hopefully he will be okay with the antibiotics till then. He doesn't seem unwell but as you've all said they can go downhill so quickly. I'm absolutely devastated!
