Help With Mutations
Lutino is a sex-linked gene meaning that if you want Lutino babies either 1. both parents needs to be Lutino or 2. The cock needs to be carrying the ino gene which will then the hens in the clutch will be ino. Females can't mask the ino gene so they are never "split" for this mutation. If you want males both you need a female ino and/or a male lutino or a male split to Lutino. Make sense?

Sparky Picking On Pebbles A Younger Budgie
You should keep them covered at night no matter if it is hot or not it gives them a sense that it is time for bed and ready to settle, I believe if you took a light sheet and covered them for 10-12 hours you would see a difference, I believe your bird is hormonal and expecting the other one to mate and that could become worse because the bird is frustrated. I do advise covering and getting a bigger cage which is already on your agenda.

I think you need to discuss this with your avian vet Krosp to see his opinion.- Hello Everyone!
Welcome to the forum, you must add a picture for Budgie of the Month Contest, I like the first one you posted, way cute.- Sparky Picking On Pebbles A Younger Budgie
Sparky is 6 months so I am assuming that he is going or going to be going through his first molt which can cause frustration he may be trying to get her to breed with him. D you keep the cage covered for 10-12 hours at least? If not make sure you do give them that cover time and if you already do you may want to increase it to 12-14 hours for a couple weeks this will help reduce some hormonal behaviors. It sounds hormonal to me personally which in turn is bullying.- Hiding And Snuggling - okay?
Yes that is what I would do. Continue to interact and try and give him treats that he like by hand that works well in helping with gaining trust.- What Is Your Definition Of A Bird Mill ?
I just saw this yes amazing I know so I am not going to read through everyone's posts or replies but give my own opinion. I believe people see a lot of birds and think mill they don't see the inside only the outside of the operation. So if I went to your place or didn't know you as well as I do I may say that you are running a bird mill but that would not be based on facts only opinion yes? If I was Kaz, I would say so if you think I am running a bird mill then go ahead and call whomever you need to call to make yourself feel better because as long as I knew I was in the guidelines of my city ordinance and knew my birds were well cared for I wouldn't be worried. I have see enough APL shows that as long as the animal has food, water and can turn around in the cage they leave the pet store open like what the &*^&^&*^ is that right? A bird mill or say animal mill is one were a person or persons is breeding animals over and over, they animals are usually too young or too old, they have had multiple litter or in this case clutches without resting the animal. They do this so they can sell as many animals as they can to TRY and gain a profit, the animals are not healthy, have constant heridtary issues, may or may not be vetted depending on the type of animal. The animals they use for breeding are not healthy, not vaccined (if need be), are just considered a object not a liviing being. I could go on and on trust me but this is only the start of what a REAL mill is. Kaz, I have never met you in person, I haven't been to your place but many of our respected members, admin, and mods have an I really doubt that if they visited your place and they felt it was a mill that they could come back to the forum and still respect you if you were running a mill (unless they are milling too) but I think too many people have come to visit you on this forum for that to happen.- Hiding And Snuggling - okay?
Early here I 1/2 read it I was meaning more if she provided a snuggle in the cage, yes I believe it is okay to have them snuggle when out but not out of fear which is what he is doing, she is encouraging the fear by letting him snuggle when he is in that mind frame, I would work on having him overcome his fear and looking for a hiding spot vs letting him look for a hiding spot because he is scared it is just encouraging that state of mind. Does that make sense? okay to snuggle yes but not because he is fearful becaue you are encouraging the fear state. If you encourage this behavior when the bird is comfortable and not fearful yes it is cool.- I've Started Conversion To Pellets
You hit it on the nail BALANCED, I believe a little bit of everything is good for your budgie (s). In the FAQ we do have a ratio of how much seed, pellets, veggies etc...that is recommended for a bird to eat on a daily basis. We could go on with the debate is pellet better or seed but that doesn't really solve your problem of obsesity. Your budgie is obese not because of the seed but most likely because it has an over flow of seed and not enough flight time. I don't over flow Merlin's seed, I give him 2 tablespoons a day of seed with his veggies that he eats, I don't do pellets my vet was on me about it too, I tried he never ate them I gave up I am sure I could have forced him, I even grounded them up and put them on his veggies. Fatty tumors are related to obesity but they are also genetic from what I have read. Obesity in budgies I am sure is just like humans it can be genetic. So if you have 1 that is obese and one that is not this 1 budgie is probably eats more (maybe) and may be prone to obesity. In that case get your budgies on a measured feeding along with exercise. As for vets making money on pellet I doubt it you can buy them at the pet food stores unless you are getting the more specialized pellets so to speak and that is just like prescription dog or cat food they don't make much off retail they make more off their clients and all the testings that they ordered.- Hiding And Snuggling - okay?
I find that when you have 2 bird together that one will be more shyer and hide behind the other one or in the snuggle, the snuggle is very cute but when they get older especially if it is a female they could find this as a place to nest so it should be removed as it can cause behavioral issues. Also you may want to use the snuggle as a reward system too when you are taming your babies, if you let the one hide all the time when you are interacting with them you will find he or she will be the harder one to tame. So in leui of taming aspect, I would say yes okay when you are not around but when you are around and want interaction not okay to hide.- Hey Guys, I'm New Here!
Welcome . A lot of people don't know that they need to do quaratine, I am assuming that you probably didn't do it. Quarantine is very important and you will hear it over and over here on the boards. When you add an existing bird to your flock be it 1 or 2 we advice (and avian vets will too) that your new addition be placed in a quaratine cage for 30 days before meeting the flock. That means the cage is in a different room and not around the flock. It is hard to keep for many pet owners because we can't wait to see how they interact and we are excited but following this will ensure that your existing flock remain healthy and you can make sure your new bird is always healthy. Stress can cause underlying illness to come out and a new enviroment can do that so that is why it is best to do a recommended 30 day quarantine, we have a lot of topics on this so you can educate yourself. Again welcome and your flock is beautiful. Your recessive pieds remind me of my late bird Pretty.- The Juvenile/baby Flight
always love see your birds Kaz, healthy, gorgeous, beautiful...are just some of the words- Ocassinal Weird Poop?
grapes are not recommended because the skins are so thin and pesticides absorb right into them, I would advise not giving them to your budgie but it is your choice, also they can cause lose poops. When your bird's dropping change think of what you gave them last to eat that maybe the problem especially if they return back to normal after a few hours.- Swing Bell Removal Game
budgies seem to love balls with bells or just bells, Merlin loves his plastic balls he is always throwing them everywhere. .- Update: Bert And Pip
Glad that you popped in and gave us and update, they both are adorable and look wonderful.- New Baby Sick?
It could be stress induced illness, it could be that he is just settling in, honestly the advice above is the best you can take contact the person, shop, breeder you purchased your bird from and go from there. How old is he? Do you have pictures you can post of him? Welcome to the forums.- It's Snowing Today
Here we never get 109F hottest I would say would be 95F and that is very hot for us, norms is around 85F for summer here in Ohio, find it funny there was supposed to be a blast of snow yesterday, schools closed NO SNOW kids should have went to school, it is snowing now so maybe it will be today instead lol. My husband and son are off camping (they are staying in a lodge) through a dad/son organization they love this weather sledding all weekend long.- It's Snowing Today
Yep that was just last year- Budgie Stuck In Bars
You will need to get a new cage that is the safest route to go.- Roxy, All Grown Up
Thank you so much for the update, I remember her she is such a special budgie here to the forum and she has grown up into a beauty.- It's Snowing Today
Schools are closed today, the snow is just hitting us now. I got about 3 inches over the night, I will be out there snow blowing once the world wakes up it is only 7:15 AM here right now. If you do a search for pictures you will see snow pictures I have posted over the last few year too . Really what we get is nothing compared to the New England states but it is enough, I would rather have a warmer climate but this is where we are for now. I would miss the beauty of the snow in the morning after the snow fall nothing can compare to that especially with the stillness.- To Change, Or Not To Change..?
Rotation with toys and perches is always good, if you can do it 1 a month that is awesome but at least every 3 months. How does he act with his mirror? It is recommended that you do not give budgies mirrors in their cage and only for outside play time.- It's Snowing Today
I am your next door neighbor here in Ohio, we have the same forecast, and it looks the same way outside today. - Air Sucking
