  1. http://www.budgerigars.co.uk/charts/fallow.html Isn't Fallow recessive rather than sex-linked?
  2. It sounds like it will be pretty much the same.. you don't really know if the yellowfaces came from the mother or father. At this point , I would assume that she is split for yellowface -- but it could be blue. She shouldn't have all green babies -- so either yellowfaces or blues.
  3. Was the other father blue, green, or yellowface? And the female was the same female? -- she is green
  4. It is from the same 2 birds that you got yellowfaces and greens? If yes, I don't think you would get any normal blues. If she is split to yellowface -- then she wouldn't have the gene for blue -- only green and yellowface. If she is split to blue, she has a gene for green and a gene for blue -- so the yellowfaces would have had to have come from the father -- but he visually looks white -- so he would have been a double factor yellowface. That means he could only have yellowface babies with her blue gene and green babies with her green gene.

That's great news Bea.. he will get the antibodies he needed from his parents.
  6. Assuming that she is green. It could mean that she is split to blue - split to blue means to be carrying a "hidden" blue gene. If that is the case then your blue male is a double factor yellowface. You would get greens and yellowfaces. It could also mean that she is green split to yellowface. You would get greens and yellowfaces.
  7. I like the little pied baby. They are looking great.

Kito looks so sweet in the first picture. Max is very handsome -- love your birds.
  10. Once you are done with quarantine -- if she sees you with a tame budgie, she may follow suit. I'd let her have her space and try millet to tempt her to some minor interaction. Just talk to her often and make slow movements around her, maybe avoid eye contact and read to her. She sounds like she needs some time.. but she looks fairly young still so I think she will come around.

I'd say that Sunshine is a boy
  12. What cute babies. Both parents are gorgeous too! The way I understand it is that it's not the distribution of yellow that differs from one yellowface gene to the other, but the depth of the yellow. The yellowfaces that are whiteface in double factor are a paler yellow.

    Herbie is adorable

They are pretty birds. Aside from the other breeding reasearch you will need to do -- you may want to consider what the demand for budgies in your area is. You mentioned that you had quite a few to choose from at the humane society. Would it be hard to find Good Homes for the babies? some budgies don't stop at just one clutch either.

He is cute.. a little Carrington clone :ausb: Looks like a Benji to me.
  16. The markings don't look spangle to me -- I think he's a yellowface full body color grewwing (or clearwing)
  17. How about Woodstock? Don't know why but she reminds me of that yellow bird from Peanuts/ Snoopy. Beautiful babies!

Great pictures. Kree is a handsome guy *dreams of finding one just like Tootie*
  19. Before you decide whether or not to get a budgie consider some of their down sides and learn as much as you can before you bring one home so that you will have the right sized cage set up properly. A budgie that hasn't been handfed can definately become tame. 5 months isn't too old but may take a little more time than one who's younger. It's about patience and trust-building. Some are more outgoing than others. Move slowly -- and talk to it often so it will see you are not a threat. For the first few days to a week just let it settle in to the new surroundings without trying to handle him or get him out of the cage. If you are considering wing clipping, have someone do it and show you how to trim properly the first time at least. I would see how it goes with taming for several weeks before deciding whether or not to clip. As a general rule - budgies do not like to be grabbed and restrained so I try not to unless it is absolutely necessary. I've never used gloves with them.
  20. He looks really pretty. I'd like to see pictures of your other almost grown up babies.
  21. I think that Stewie is a normal sky blue, Bubbles is a light green opaline spangle, and that Joey was a normal grey.
  22. With the albino hen. If he is the slate mutation -- then you could get slate females and males split to slate and -ino. There are many other possibilites based on what other mutations the albino is (or is carrying) and what the male is carrying. Depends on what the albino is -- sky blues and cobalts if she has any dark factors - males split to -ino. And if the male has any splits they may show up.

Good luck with the babies. The parents and the rest of you birds are very beautiful.
