What Does This Mean....
What does it mean when a Budgie is standing on a branch and starts to flap it's wings very fast...and keeps doing it for a while but doesn't move anywhere. Mine do it and it seems to excite the other one into fast flying around the aviary like a mad thing. Any ideas? Thanks

Iodine Block
Hi my budgies love their Iodine blocks and spend their time scraping at them with their beaks, can someone tell me what a budgie uses in the wild to substitute for an Iodine block, what I'm trying to say is, the minerals a budgie gets from an Iodine block, what in the wild gives them this. Sorry if this sounds confusing.

Is It Safe Too....
Is it safe to have incense sticks or scented candles burning in the same room as budgies are kept in? Thanks

How Often....
I am surprised about the grit, I have kept budgies for over 15 years and have always put a pot of grit in for them and they love it. All the books that I have read says to include it in their cage. What will happen if I don't put it in, will my budgies suffer, they haven't suffered from having it all these years, I'm confused now.

How Often....
I put grit in my budgies cage but how often should it be thrown out for fresh or is it okay to let them just go through it and add more when they need it. Also do iodine blocks and cuttle fish become stale if left in the cage for too long or is it okay to leave them until the budgie has gone through them and then add new ones. Thanks

Fatty Lump
I had a budgie that had a fatty lump on his belly for most of his life and then it just disappeared slowly. When he died of old age it was nowhere to be seen.

Weight Gain
Whats the best thing to feed a budgie to help him gain weight? My budgie Eric doesn't seem to put on much weight, I've had him for three years and he's always been a bit light. He's about the same size as my other budgie but he only has to look at a stick of millet to put on weight. Eric was sick at the beginning of this year and went down hill faster because he didn't have much bulk on him, he recovered thankfully, but I would like to get him a bit fatter incase it ever happens again. He eats the same as the other budgie. All advice appreciated. Thanks :hap:

Vitamin Deficiencies
Hi the BEST thing I've found for any vitamin deficiencies is called Gaurdian Angel made by the Bird care company and called Dr Squiggles. You give it in the water for two weeks at a time and it's brilliant. Go take a look at the website and you can order on line. http://www.birdcareco.com/DrSquiggles/Prod...roducts.html#GA

To Trill Or Not To Trill?
I have always fed mine on Trill but the only problem I've had with Trill is contamination of sunflower seeds. I have had to send some packets back to the manufacturer on three different ocassions when I found lots of sunflowers seeds mixed in with it. They said it was unacceptable and gave me a full refund and vouchers which was great but it doesn't alter the fact that their quality control is somewhat lapse to say the least. I realise sunflower seeds are not dangerous to budgies at least I hope their not but if they can get into the packets of Trill what else has. Also I once bought some packets from Tescos thinking it would be lovely and fresh but it was contaminated with small mites, that also went back, much to the horror of Tescos customer services, they at least had the sense to clear their shelves and dispose of the rest. :glare:

Fact Or Fiction?
A friend told me that along time ago a well known bird seed company put up a prize of a lifetime supply of seed for the first person to breed a pink Budgie. Is this true or false and if it is true does the challenge and the prize still stand? Thanks

bird flu
If the predicted Bird Flu Pandemic is anything like the Foot and mouth epidemic in the uk, where animals are concerned the government will probably have every bird culled like it did with the cows etc.

Sick Eric
Thanks for your help, I will take Eric to the vets tomorrow as they are closed today. Just a quick question, I have been monitoring him all day today and he's eating millet and some apple, cleaning himself and singing and apart from being a bit fluffed up he has passed NO droppings whatsoever. Does anyone know if budgies can get constipated as any sick budgies I've had in the past have always had lots of loose droppings but this time nothing. Thanks

Help for Eric needed,urgently
Hi,can anyone give me some advice for Eric my four year old budgie. He is a bit fluffed up and off his food although he is eating a bit of millet. Don't want to rush him to the vet as they get very stressed during the journey. Can anyone give me any tips on foods to temp him to eat properly again. I don't think he's critical yet but just under the weather. He is with another bird in a warm room and is still cleaning himself and chirping a bit. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks Lisa

Information please
Hi, just wondered what fresh fruit and vegetables everyone recommends to feed a Budgie with and also how often. Mine love carrot and apple. Don't want to give them the runs. All advice greatly received. Also does anyone know anything about "Mega Bacteria"? I had a budgie that died from it a few years ago and wondered what it was and how he could have caught it. My vet said it was the first case he had seen ever and then he had more budgies with it months later. All info much appreciated. Thanks Lisa
