  2. Thanks hun ...so for a couple of budgies, one egg a week is plenty?
  3. Thanks for the info...and what about the egg? Can I ask how you cook the egg you give your birds and how often do you give them egg..thanks
  4. Thanks everyone..the budgie has seen a vet and had treatment but they don't think it's an illness as such, as vet treatment doesn't work...let me explain...the bird isn't mine but I have seen and experienced what it does and it's a circle of things that keep happening....it's a male bird about three years old and it lives with three other male birds but even when it lived with less birds it still acted in this way....now how do I explain without making it sound sordid ...it masturbates itself on a branch in front of a mirror for days on end and then it is so exhausted it looks ready to drop...during this time it doesn't eat much and so gets weak and has to be taken out to recover on it's own, only to start the process again once it's got his energy back .....I just thought if I could get advice on helping with it's food intake/energy levels, it might stop this crazy behaviour....poor bird gets so excited and is so engrossed in it's own pleasure that it forgets everything else including eating...any advice would be appreciated....at the moment the bird has spent a few days resting and is now back with the others and is looking ready for action oh dear :(Laughing out loud): Thanks

  7. I'm really interested to know from budgie breeders if they can tell me roughly how many eggs a budgie will lay and how many of them will hatch sucessfully...also, out of a clutch of eggs laid and hatched, what is there normally most of, males or females or does it vary. Thanks guys, always wondered this...

  10. Hi, I am posting this for a friend as I am not sure what to advise her..really hoping someone can come up with a solution or advice so here goes...she has always had two budgies...some time ago one died and she was left with one lonely male budgie, anyway she was going to replace him but never got around to it. One of her close friends had two males and couldn't really look after them so she offered to take them on. She brought them home and after a couple of days put them both in with Tweet her budgie...her cage is big and there's ample room for them all but almost straight away Jamie has started fighting Tweet. Jorge the other male is fine but Jamie is going for the kill all the time. I have told her to take Jamie out and put him on his own for a while, which she has done but can't think of anything else to advise her to stop it happening...feel so sorry for Tweet. Will this eventually stop or is Jamie going to be at war with Tweet from now on. All help and advice appreciated. The birds are all young..Tweet about two years and the others about a year and they are definitely males. Thanks :budgiedance:

Does anyone grow Trill seed to feed to their birds and do they like it? I only ask because my aunty told me that years ago when they had budgies this is what they use to do. Aswell as giving them seed etc they use to get a small pot and grow Trill like you would grow mustard and cress seeds, in a pot on a layer of kitchen paper and the budgies would feast on the growth. Is this something to try..you help appreciated. Thanks
  14. Thanks for your help. much appreciated.
  15. Thanks for the reply....can you please tell me if you know what the difference is between the Harrisons Standard, Super and Tonic budgie seeds? I can't find any info on this and would like to try it on my birds but not sure which one is the nearest to the Trill they usually have....they are going right off Trill so need a new food for them. Thanks for your help.

I have just found out that Trill Budgie food is made by Pedigree Master foods and they are big on animal testing...can anyone recommend another budgie food to feed my lot on, I am in the UK. Thanks This is the info I have found..... http://www.uncaged.co.uk/petfood.htm The majority of pet food brands available in the UK are produced by two animal testing companies - "Nestlé Purina/Friskies" and "Pedigree, Masterfoods (Mars Inc)." Nestlé Purina/Friskies: Alpo, Bonio, Felix, Go Cat, Gourmet, Omega Complete, Proplan, Spillers, Vital Balance, Winalot. Pedigree, Masterfoods (Mars Inc): Bounce, Cesar, Chappie, Frolic, James Wellbeloved, Katkins, Kitekat, Pal, Pedigree Chum, Royal Canin, Sheba, Techni-cal (US & Canada), Whiskas. Pedigree also manufacture Thomas rabbit food and Trill bird food. NB Techni-Cal (Europe) although not owned by Pedigree, Masterfoods (Mars Inc) is still a company to boycott as they have not signed up to the BUAV No Animal Testing Standard.
