  1. Is it safe/okay to feed Curly Endive, Lambs Lettuce and Radicchio? Thanks
  2. I found our budgies took ages to get use to sunflower seeds...normal or hearts...in the beginning I ground the sunflower hearts down and sprinkled a bit onto their food..once they got use to that, they started eating the whole seeds but they prefer the sunflower hearts, we've just got lazy budgies here :(Laughing out loud): .... they definitely can break open the shells though, I'm sure ... :hap:
  3. Yep..Norm is correct, Sunflowers hearts are Sunflower seeds with the shells taken off...
  4. Sorry hun...I think a quarter of a pint is around 150ml...so how much Calcivet would I add to it... 2ml? Thanks
  5. It says on the bottle I have.... Application: Mix 10mls to 20mls of Calcivet to 1 litre of drinking water. Alternatively add to food at the rate of 0.1-0.2mls (diluted in a little water) per 100g of bodyweight. Feed once or twice a week to non-breeding animals and five times a week to breeders. Do not feed Calcivet daily. ...so how much would I use if I give my birds a quarter of a pint of water each day...sorry to sound thick but I really don't want to get this wrong
  6. Can you tell me how much water to how much Calvicet liquid you use please...and how often you use it..thanks
  7. Do you put Calcivet (liquid) on the food or in the water? I was told that putting it in the water would be okay but costly as you need to use much more to make it work...putting it on the fruit and veg is very hit and miss as the birds hardly touch it when it's been added. Thanks
  8. Does anyone give their budgies a sprinkle of Limestone flour on their seed occasionally? I know you are supposed to give budgies cuttlefish to help with calcium and their beak etc but what happens if the budgie doesn't go for it, how else do you get calcium in to them. I know they give Limestone flour to Tortoises but I was wondering if anyone gives it to budgies and whether it would benefit them health wise...I have tried Calcivet (liquid) on the birds fruit and veg but they won't touch it...please don't attack me, this is really only me being inquisitive and not trying to start a heated debate..
  9. We feed Sunflower Hearts occasionally..see link http://shopping.rspb.org.uk/mall/productpa...spb/R0023/76550 we get them from the supermarket and they are produced by the RSPB...very clean and packaged well...budgies love them :fear

:hap: By "Sulfites" do you mean Sulpur Dioxide? I have just looked and it's clearly labelled on the ingredients of the packet of dried Apricots we have....thanks for the warning...I didn't know this was dangerous to birds...makes you wonder what it's doing to us ...and bought from a health food shop aswell...

  18. Thanks everyone...so it looks as if I should just keep trying with the egg mix.... will let you know if and when they take to it... :hap:
  19. This is the mixture I made up on a few occasions but they wouldn't touch it .....the egg biscuits you can buy in the US are the same as we use to be able to buy here and the birds loved them...I just wondered if there was a recipe for those.....birds are such fussy creatures :(Laughing out loud):
  20. Our pet shops use to sell egg biscuits for budgies but they don't anymore and I can't find any to buy...now before you shoot me down, I have looked through the forum but can't find any recipes for egg biscuits....my question is, can these be made easily and if so what's the recipe and how is it done...my birds won't touch cooked egg on it's own so I want to try egg biscuits and maybe add some other things to tempt them...any help or advice welcome. Thanks
  21. Well, tried egg on my two this morning...mixed in everything you suggested but they wouldn't touch it :yellowhead: fussy birdies...if at first you don't succeed... try again...
  22. Thanks everyone for their advice...mirror has been removed...my friend now has a very grumpy budgie :yellowhead: here's hoping he cheers up soon.. ..he misses his reflection no doubt...on the plus side the birds are interacting more with eachother which is a good sign...will keep you updated. Thanks
  23. Why say the budgie is unwell. The bird is board &stuck in a cage with a mirrow.Throw the mirrow away. :yellowhead:If you read my other post you would understand why I wrote this....the budgie pleasures himself to the point of exhaustion and makes himself extremely weak and unwell, chosing to do this rather than eat alot of the time....he can't be bored, as he's in a large aviary with three other budgies but ignores them all in favour of the mirror...as I said in the previous post "I just thought if I could get advice on helping with it's food intake/energy levels, it might stop this crazy behaviour"...I didn't feel comfortable to explain in full initially due the nature of the problem...sorry if I confused you.
  24. Are Snow peas the same as Mange tout....and does Corn on the cob need to be cooked before giving to budgies or can it be fed to them raw off the cob?....can we just open a can of green giants sweet corn and give them some or is that a no no? Thanks
  25. Thanks...much appreciated.
