  1. Ha ha, wouldn't that be funny if you smuggled your own signs in and then attached them to the cages without the sales assistants noticing. hahha
  2. That's the problem with petshops the sales assistants have to try and make as many sales as possible to get paid.
  3. It could be a new mutation too. Like those frizzy chooks
  4. That is an awesome thing you did for Heather. They have no right to ban you from that petshop anyway, you didn't do anything wrong. You saved a lady from buying a bird that she wouldn't have been happy with, you saved her her money so that she could eat that week, you made a new friend, you secured a home for one of your bubs and you taught those evil sales ladies a lesson!!!
  5. No one can have a tail as gorgeous as mine!!! I will chew yours off to teach you a lesson!!! (is that Fizzwizzle??? if it is then: "I've destroyed Blinky's and Ozzie's tails, now I will destroy yours!!!! Then MY tail will be the best tail there is!!!!! Mwahahahaha"
  6. Here is one of my favourite pictures of Arkady:
  7. Welcome to the forums Sandman. You have such a great sense of humour ( I was giggling reading your first post), I think you will be a great and fun member of our community. :budgiedance:
  8. Your budgies are all such sweeties and look in really good health. Gauguin looks similar to my Arkady, different colours, but similar looking faces. I love the first picture of Magritte, so cute and Fragonard is such a lovely colour. I also very much like Tamara's markings. They are all very lovely little birds.

You could stain the wood, this still leaves its natural colour, but protects it.
  10. Haha yeah that'll will be fun. Well one day I plan on coming to Aussie to do some work there for a year.
  11. Have you had any follow up visits from the SPCA since?
  12. Oh Wow Chryso!!! That's sounds so awesome, i am so jealous!!! We have to do 14 weeks total of practical farm work by June 2008 and then after that we have to do 6 weeks of practical work at a vet clinic by 2010 Cool. I'm really glad you found somewhere so good I could have gone to that convention in Africa, but I decided not too...too poor
  13. Mmm, but animals are generally attracted to others that aren't related to them (generally by pheromones (although birds have a bad sense of smell, this could explain it)) as the further they are apart in relation the larger the difference in their genetic makeup, meaning that if they were to mate, their babies would have a higher chance of survival, due to larger differences in their genes. Animals that are closely related to each other will produce offspring that are not very diverse in their genetic make up and may produce offspring that carry two genes that are identical by descent. This is often how new mutations appear. And can result in an immunity that is not as strong as it would be if the animal had parents that were not related at all. Generally the main drive behind breeding for animals is to provide offspring that stand the greatest chance of survival. This is why I wonder why they are so attracted to ones that are related. Food for thought
  14. Hmm, yes some people can be very stubborn in their ways even when there is lots of evidence to support your theory, they turn blind eye to it. I like it here as there are many open minded people. None of my spangles have the spot. Out of my 13 birds 10 are spangles and none have the spot, unfortunately, because I quite like the spot.
  15. Haha I have a very similar problem. One of my males has formed a bond with his daughter who, also reciprocates his love and advances. I will be selling her sometime and hope that he will form a "healthier" bond with a female he is not related to. Silly things, I thought animals were generally attracted to others that weren't very closely related to themselves. :budgiedance:
  16. Oh, Kaz, that's no good. Hmm, I can't wait to have my own aviary oneday. I really would like some pieds
  17. Oh, I believe you. What I was describing is called a test cross and proves that the parent in question is carrying the desired gene. Any pieds that show up in the offspring will prove that the parent is indeed split to recessive. Look up "test cross" :hap:
  18. oooo what sort of questions?
  19. Now the best way to test your theory would be to take your normal bird with the little spot on the back of the head, which is said to be split to recessive pied, and breed it to a recessive pied bird. If any of the babies are recessive pied then that means that the normal with the smal spot on the back of its head is a CONFIRMED split to recessive pied and then you can confidently say that the small spot on the back of the birds head means it is split to recessive pied. There you go Kaz, put a split-to with a full rec.pied andconfirm it for us, that would be awesome and very helpful, for those who want to choose to bring rec. pied into their flock. :hap:
  20. Yes, if you get him the new cage first, then you will have a spare cage to quarantine the new budgie in.
  21. However if the chick is fully formed inside the egg and just needs to grow, then it couldn't get addled. I have fostered eggs halfway through their incubation, with 100% success rate
  22. I see you are missing your cheek spots, care for a few?
  23. Tee hee, I liked "Jeff", from survivor "Lotto" for 1 in million chance
  24. There are a lot of birds named lucky, I think he is way more special than that. A special boy deserves a special name.
