Bird Shows And Gatherings Across Uk Cancelled
The latest epidemic of bird flu in the Uk was found in Norfolk at one of the UK's biggest poultry suppliers. They believe that the flu came from Hungary in some imported chickens. There is a scare that it may have already got into the food chain supply. I have not heard anything about any other birds being infected. Lets hope this is going to be an isolated incident. Funnily enough I went to our local Petsmart yesterday and it was eerily quiet as they had no birds at all. I asked an assistant why and they said they were no longer selling birds (rather strange). It didnt occur to me at the time that it may be down to this current scare. Lets hope its soon cleared up.

Update On My Poorly Baby
I took Pippin on Tuesday to see an avian vet who after giving him a thorough examination said he was suffering from sinusitus. He gave him an injection of Baytril and he has been having it daily in his water since. I can't believe the difference in my little boy, he is so lively and back to doing the mischievous things he did before I realised how unwell he really was. Pippin was going through quite a heavy moult and I put his change in personality down to this. It's amazing and also quite scary as to how well these little ones can hide their sickness and it's been a sharp lesson for me also. I feel a lot happier now knowing he is getting better and also knowing that I now have a really good vet who knows what he is doing and just what to look for. I see now why all of you recommend that an avian vet is used. Thanks to everyone who gave me advise :budgiedance:

What Is The Treatment ?
Just got back from the vets with Pippin. The vet gave him a thorough check up and seems to think he has a sinus problem as he has had the staining for some time. He has had an injection of Baytril and the vet has given me some to put in his water daily. Pippin has to go back next week for a follow up examination. Poor little thing is sat with his back to me now, he can't believe what his mum has done to him. Not a happy little bunny at all. Maybe a little treat of millet may bring him round :budgiedance:

What Is The Treatment ?
I have got Pippin booked in to see an avian vet tomorrow evening. He has brown staining over his cere which he seems to suffer with a lot. He has also been sneezing a lot over the last week or so and the feathers above his cere are fairly wet. He is going through a heavy moult at the moment and seems to be off his food a little. My concern is what type of treatment do they normally give for this type of thing. Is it an injection or is it drops. I am getting quite anxious about taking him as he has only ever been to see a vet once before to have his little toe nails trimmed and she made him bleed !!!. Needless to say I am not going to the same vet. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Well I Think This!
Nathan, I don't add many postings to this site, but I log onto the website on a daily basis as I thoroughly enjoy reading about and looking at pictures of other members budgies. I found your comment to Bea very rude and offensive. If you find these types of postings annoying then I can only suggest you stay away from the board as many of the members post regular pictures and updates of their feathery friends. Bea - keep the pictures coming, I for one love to read and see your little flock.

Is My Baby Depressed ?
Getting a second budgie is something I have been considering for some time now. I'm going to monitor Pippins behaviour and see how much of a difference removing the toy and mirrors make and then decide if getting another budgie would a good idea. Must be honest the thought of a little baby, well enough said. Thanks everyone who gave me advice.

Is My Baby Depressed ?
Well he has just had as mini moult but he seems to have these every couple of months. His little head is all itchy for him at the moment, but he wont let you scratch it. It only lasted for a week but do you think that this may be his problem. I have noticed a difference in him since I took the toy away and I also removed his two mirrors. Should I introduce these back into his cage or leave them out.

Is My Baby Depressed ?
He was one in May. What age is classed as a teen for a budgie ??

Is My Baby Depressed ?
Thanks for that Lovey. I will see how he goes over the next couple of days and if there's no improvement I will get him checked out at the vets just to be on the safe side.

Is My Baby Depressed ?
I did wonder myself if he was sick, but he is eating and drinking okay and his poops are normal.

Is My Baby Depressed ?
I'm really worried about Pippin. Just recently he found out he was all grown up and started having fun with his see-saw mirror and one of his twig perches. This lasted a couple of weeks and then everything was back to normal . Now over the last few days his behaviour has changed and he no longer wants to spend time outside his cage or even any time with me which is very unusual as he normally would spend as much of his free time sitting on me. He is a really good talker and this has stopped too. Now, whenever I let him out he stays out for about 30 mins and then puts himself back in and yesterday and today I have had to put my hand in his cage to get him out and within minutes he has gone back in again. He has been cuddling up to one particular toy a lot over the last few days and I have just removed it in the hope that this will stop the problem, but I'm worried now if I have done the right thing. Can anyone help ???

Is This Normal Behaviour
Pippin was from a breeder and from the first day I brought him home he has been such a social little bird This is why I prefer to get a baby from a breeder against buying from a pet shop where they have been bred purely to be sold in the shops.

Is This Normal Behaviour
Thanks for that Bea. You obviously had the same concerns as me about not wanting to spoil the relationship you have with your little man. I know it may sound selfish, but he is so precious to me I would hate to think that by getting another budgie I would spoil it. I really do think that he needs company during the day and the radio isnt enough for him. The reaction I get from him when I get home from work each night is so touching, he is so excited to see me. I need to do some research now and find a good breeder, there doesnt seem to be as many about in the UK as there used to be and I'm not too keen on buying from a pet shop. I will let you know how I get on. Thanks Bea and Lovey for your advice.

Is This Normal Behaviour
Thanks Lovey you have helped me make my mind up about a friend for my little man. I do feel bad when I leave in a morning knowing he his on his own all day. I'm being selfish not wanting him to change, its just that he is such a good little talker and is so sweet and loveable and comes with me all over the house, in fact he wont let me leave the room without him when he is out of his cage. The breeder I got Pippin from has had to give up breeding birds due to ill health, so I need now to find a good breeder which seems hard to find in my area. Anyone know any good breeders in the north west of England.
