Yes but they look the goods to me, whether they are show quality or not :P We all have to start somewhere. I'm no where near where you're at in experience or flock size, but I AM fortunate enough to have some pretty decent birds courtesy of a lovely lady haha

For me to pick the ones that YOU as a more experienced person is keeping makes me think I am learning what a good budgie looks like. You have some amazing birds!

I have a favorite of Kaz's flock and that is her Yellow Faced Sky Violet Cock, Gosh he is amazing - he is something pretty special in her flock I believe so again, I think I maybe learning what a good bird is *HI 5* hahaha

i know what i believe is a good bird but it is here in which lay the question

the question being ????who is right

who knows what a good bird is show wise

my answer will be the same every time

its the judge judging on the day

i can only do my best to assume im heading down the right path

i think i am

its hard though as a small breeder with a small flock i need to keep my flock size down so

.....

how do you show good birds yet, be able to build a good line

is it possable to keep 100 birds and no more and still build your own birds look ???

im sure it is i will find a way just need to find it

GB I thought/hoped you didn't care and were breeding the bird that You want. :P

Yes, you are right - every judge has his/her preferences But they do meet up and establish "the look" that they want to see more of.

As for showing and breeding .... well I can only share my experience with you and that is I almost never show a hen, at least I try not to, and what I show depends on whether it is "breeding time" or not and when the bird was born. The UBCs (nest feathered) which I believe will amount to something will be shown around the 5-6+ mark and then again a bit later when they have matured a bit more. Most of the time I just grab what looks good on the day or if I am feeling ambitious the day before for a bit of show cage training and try to rock up with a decentish number of birds.

Let your Club members advise you and you'll be fine! :P

So Renee does that mean you just grab a bird that looks good out of the aviary and take it along to the show and hope to win? Or if you think you have a chance the day before you will put it in the show box for a quick one day lesson?

Did I get it right........

Almost! Yes, most times I just grab a bird on the day that is in condition and pop it into a show cage. IF they are up-and-coming young uns and I want to make sure they "show" they go into the show cage the day before, I put newspaper at the bottom below the perch and soon enough the curious little critters get up on the perch 'cause they want to look around. :D

I'm afraid as a soon to be Intermediate I will have to spend a heck of a lot more time with show preparation (sigh) but the judges in this State are very understanding with us Novices and 'break us in slowly'. :D

thanks kaz

their getting bigger and bigger also

the chicks out nests this time are mostly really big thick birds makes it hard as some come out small and grow like wild fire others come big but really dont progress in length just their feather is beautiful and feather height above head mask ext all good

i still dont really know what im looking for and club night showings arnt really helping me understand what im looking for as the birds are judged as we are in discussing things so and by end of night all birds get taken pretty quickly and everyone goes own way not really giving you a chance to ask what the person who judged them judged them one

i am however really enjoying our club meetings of late their have been some changes and their really good changes im proud to be a member of this club

and hope i can put in with my birds and assistance or ideas

im going to be showing a few birds at our club show this march so more for fun as i dont belive any of my birds are really of showing standeds yet but want to partake for the experiance
