:D I have a young budgie that we only got about three days ago. The lady at the shop said that he would be about two weeks out of the nest.

He is blue and my son has named him Beaky. Such an original name I know, but my son is only 4!!

Anyway, Beaky likes to flick all of the seed out of his feeder bowl and then once it is empty, climb in and sleep in it upside down!

Is this normal and should I give him some gear to make a bit of a nest out of?

He is our first budgie, so I would love to learn more.

Thanks

Katherine :bluebudgie:

(Laughing out loud) sounds so cute does he have any perches to sleep on and does he have any toys to play with because he may be getting bored and kicking out the seed for fun

Hi there, sounds like you are being entertained :D There's no need at all to be making your budgie a nest of any type or giving him anything to make one out of either. Budgies dont make nests usually. He is having fun with the seed dish. Maybe try a flat dish on the floor of his cage for the seed as the young ones usually search the floor for their food. More toys as suggested ( no mirrors ) :bluebudgie:

and dont forget to be feeding him vegies and mashed up boiled egg :D

:fear I have since bought a bowl shaped nest for him to sleep in and he is loving it. He just wanted somewhere to snuggle up I think. I have also put his seed in a bowl on the floor of the cage and he is not flicking it out half as much as before. Can anyone give me some ideas on what kind of materials to put in the nest to make it even cosier for him? I was going to use paper towel, but was unsure if it is safe or not.I am working on the picture thing. I am new to getting photos off of my phone camera, so as soon as I get that sorted out, I will post some on this page. Thanks for all of your fantastic advice guys, I was sure I would have no replies by now, so it is great to hear from you all.Back soon with photos hopefully.Katherineokay I officially have no idea how to paste a photo onto here, so you will have to check out my facebook site to see the photos.Sorry for the painfull way of checking out Beaky guys. Still working on it though.Visit My Website

Just a little add on to your story of the baby budgie sleeping in funny places. I have at the moment a "kindie cage" full of newly fledged youngsters all ranging in ages from 5 weeks to 10 weeks. When I go in to look at them, half of them are lying face down on the floor ( a shock as you think they are dead at first :fear ) and others are in seed bowl and some even hanging upside down from perches. I guess the babies take a moment or two to figure out their place in life :fear

Your little one sounds very funny in his sleeping choices... I remember Holly trying to get into his seed pots when I first got him, but he never actually succeeded!

I think its just another weird budgie trait....my first budgie Pip used to doze of hanging with one foot on his dangling toy and the other on the wall of the cage, and also hanging upside down too. Holly has taken to taking mini naps on the floor of his cage with his chin resting on the little weeble toy he has in his cage, not sure if plastic makes a comfy pillow, but it's his choice I guess!

Beaky is adorable :hap: .

Some natural perches, like a washed eucalyptus branch, would be good exercise for his feet, plus some budgies enjoy nibbling on the leaves :D .

And that is the way you add photos, however they have to be 450x450 pixels or less in size (I think, anyhow it's listed under 'Board Terms, Conditions and Rules').

To resize, you can either do it on your computer before you upload or use a website such as photobucket to edit your images.
