So then guys can you help me with this one.

This Albino was 12 months old at last Christmas...I was sure it had a real dark brown cere...but its now April and the cere is still pink. Perhaps I got this one wrong too because it doesn't look like turning brown.

albino cock.

the other bird posted in another section is a yellow faced albino cock.

with cock birds , if you hold them in your hand and turn them upside down

a couple of times the cere will become more blue.

this happens because the the blood vessels in the cocks cere are closer to the surface.

just try it paul.

robd.

Hi robd,,I didn't know that method,,,well tomorrow morning I'll try that trick...cool bananas

I know a lot of budgies that wildly revolve round and round their perch like a ferris wheel, and others that pace back and forth till your head spins and others that turn upside down all the time into their food dishes. I don't think Robd was suggesting you treat the budgie like a cocktail shaker.....just "if you hold them in your hand and turn them upside down a couple of times the cere will become more blue" :)

Great to know I don't have the only aspiring gymnasts for budgies :)

I think it is the point that the budgie is being restrained by the owner and not doing it on it's own. The issue isn't the position of the bird but the restriction of being held and they physically turned upside.

I didn't say they were shaken I just asked if this is a common practice because to a pet owners view it seems extreme to hold a bird upside so the blood flows to its head to see if it a male or female.

I hate to see this post turn into a joke. I could see a budgie getting injured if not held properly or if someone did assume that they where to shake it.

Oh well maybe am blowing it out of proportion .

I am sorry, as I know both Rob and Paul, I know how gentle both of them are with their birds. I often catch up a bird, too, and turn it upside down to check its vent, its feet, tailfeathers etc for signs of health and so on. A well handled bird doesnt get stressed by this kind of handling and as we know they even like to do it themselves. I dont think anyone was suggesting the bird get quickly upended back and forth to the point of stress. I was just trying to show a bird CAN tolerate some forms of handling, their choice or not.

gotcha see that is a much better explanation Kaz I did that with Pretty and I do it with Merlin. Again the internet communication is hard to really expression and emotion. You know them we don't but now you reexplained it  it sounds very realistic and okay. Thank you. ;)
