Interesting that you have a blue boy.. that would mean that the daddy is split for blue then. and it seems that both parents are split to yellowface too. or is that just daddy?

 

Umm hmm can't remember is Yellowface blue dominant or recessive over white face blue? anyone?

Slick is definitely split to blue. He had blue babies before. Also Sadies Dad is Romeo and Mum was Juliet ( cobalt cinnamon recessive pied ) same parents as your Chase and Blondie

Shell you are correct a single factor yellow face is a visual yellow face

a double factor yellow face is a white faced bird (get that huh) (Laughing out loud)

So 2 white faced can have a yellow face if one is a df yellow face

Sooooo if there's a yellowface baby, that must mean that Dad's a carrier for a yellowface and blue gene then huh? is that correct? I need to look that up...

 

Can yellow base birds be a yellowface carrier I wonder.

You know that last question I did read on a site the one I usually use for mutations and they said it is unknown because you can't have a white faced green to prove it (Laughing out loud). Good question.

 

If both birds have a white face then someone is carrying the df yf gene.

but if 1 bird has a yellow face then the babies may too

On the question of yellow face genes.....

This guy Rocket (with the green face)

a dark factor mauve spangle

is with this girl Shiloh (texas clearbody)

They have three babies in the nest. The eldest baby has started to colour up...unless my old eyes deceive me....mauve spangle like Dad, and Yellowface ! I cannot imagine what it's going to look like as I have never seen one before. I am guessing Dad carries the yellow face gene. I know he carries the ino gene, although we don't seem to have any inos in this batch. When he had babies with Swift ( Green opaline spangle ) they were all yellow based birds, an ino or two, a spangle fallow, DF Spangles and YF2's. I assumed from Swift's genes as I am not yet too cluey on genes. Anyway, I wasn't expecting this baby to look like this. I will do photos when we get some more colour.

would love to see pics Karen but really you don't know which one is the double factor yellow face because they are both visually white faced. One way to find out is pair them both with another white visually faced that you knew was a ww and not a df yf.

so this is then to assume that since both parents are white base birds, it's safe to say that because there's a yellowface baby one of the parents would have to be double factor yellowface correct? Now here's where I got confused... I thought that if one of the parents are double factor yellowface, that would mean that all baby would be single factor factor.... Sooooo therefore since yellowface genes are dominant over normal white base blue, would that means that ALL baby should turn out yellowface?? or am I completely off the track with the double factor gene.

 

I thought that if you breed a double factor bird to a normal bird, you'd get a single factor visual bird. such as the case with dom pied, spangles and yellowface.

 

Obviously both parents can't be double factor in Shiloh and Rocket's case since there's a visual yellowface baby showing. Sooo any thought on how off track I am?

 

 

 

Edit... after re-reading the post again about the babies, I'm hoping that all the babies will colour up yellowface. if that is the case, then of course it makes sense..

although it can still be both birds unless if Shiloh had previous clutch and have had yellowfaces as well.

In Shiloh's previous clutch she produced only one baby with Lucifer (dilute grey spangle)....the baby was a texas clearbody same as Shiloh.

Doing my homework and working out the forumla Cheeta you are right all would be single factor yellow faces. So all the babies should be yellow face and that is not the case right?

answer is YES ...all yellow faces. Eldest mauve YF spangle baby has BLUE feet .. :hap:

Well Shiloh have had a baby with Lucifer, and it is not a yellowface. I'm assuming that Lucifer isn't a DF yellowface. if she was a yellowface, all her chicks would be visually YF.

We have a particularly beautiful baby in the nest of Romeo and his girl Ciara. The baby is mostly white, with a definite violet lavender as the other body colour, and with grey spangle patterns on her/his wings...a real beauty . I will try for photos later. They also have raised the only surviving baby from Honey and Luigi and that baby is exactly like Honey.
