The species/language barrier is presenting a barrier for the Blinkie - Cookie romance. Cookie doesn't puch him away now but when Blinkie wanted to feed him Cookie thought he was trying to give him a head scratch so we had one frustrated Blinkie who didn't know why Cookie kept shoving his head in his face, (Laughing out loud), and one confused Cookie who didn't know why Blinkie wouldn't scratch his head. :ausb:
  2. The 3rd one is super cute! I want it!

Well they were all lovey dovey in the aviary so hopefully they're in the mood still since i put them in the cage, (Laughing out loud). :ausb:

Cookie: Oh yellow one, please be my friend. Ozzie: Maybe if i pretend to sleep he will go away. Cookie: I know! He's testing my loyalty by seeing if i'll stand guard over him while he rests! Ozzie: Oh good, here's Blinkie to distract the pointy headed one. Cookie: Oh lord, it's the crazy one who wants to stand on me! Blinkie: *wolf whistles* Sexy Cookie!! Come here.... Ozzie: Just as i thought, i can preen in peace now! Cookie: Maybe if i pretend to sleep he will go away! Blinkie: Maybe if i look sad Cookie will comfort me! All: Maybe if we put on our cute faces SHE will stop taking photos! Blinkie and Ozzie: Cookie, pretend to sleep! Then she will go away! Cookie: Hang on, i just found a foot shaped toy, i want to play! Blinkie and Ozzie: *sigh* Stupid tiel! Cookie: *yawn* All: ZzzzzzZzzzzzZzzzzz All: ZzzzzzZzzzzzZzzzzz And so it continues....

Five eggs now! :ausb: I haven't candled them because i can't usually make sense of what i see anyway and i don't want to stress her too much. I wonder how many eggs she will lay in total.
  6. okay, back from the vet. Tiki weighs 28g, if you had seen her before you would know this is incredibly light! If i had to guess i would've said that when i put her in the breeding cage a couple of weeks ago she would've been about 50g. Anyway, she had a crop wash done and that confirmed she has what Jelly had, she got the same treatment for it and i have to keep her warm and quiet. She can stay in my homemade hospital cage for a few days then go into the spare cage, it's easier for me to clean and change her seed and water over in the cage than the box. Hopefully she'll get well soon. And i really hope no more of them get this, because taking 20 budgies to the vet would not be fun AT ALL! I think if more get sick i would try to get them in to see the registered avian vet, i think i might start going there rather than the place i've been going to the last couple of times.
  7. With the help of someone on another forum i have made a basic hospital cage. Tiki is in a cardboard box with a unscented heat pack at the bottom with a tea towel around it. She has some gatorade in her water to help her stay hydrated (if she will drink it) and i've also mixed a little gatorade into some soft food incase she wants to eat more than she wants to drink. As a lid i used the grate out of the bottom of Blinkie's old cage and she has a couple of low perches. She really feels thin, i hope she gets better. We're taking her to the vet shortly to be checked out, hopefully the vet working has enough knowledge to be able to properly diagnose and treat her, but it shouldn't be too tricky, i think that it would be the same as what Jelly had.
  8. I am soooo annoyed right now!! Tiki has started vomitting some time since last night, i'm pretty sure it would be the same thing Jelly had about a month ago (trichomoniasis) but the regular vet i go to (who's not avian but he's good with birds) isn't on today. The clinic gave us the number of the vet where Dr Sandy Hume works and she is the only registered avian vet in Canberra, i've never been to her before but i would like to start. Well she's not on today or tomorrow! So now i'm stressing. We rang back the place i normally go to as they said that one of their vets would be happy to look at her but she's not actually an avian vet. As i know the treatment for this has to be given via a crop needle i got mum to ring back to talk to the vet who's on and see if she's able to safely give this treatment and we're waiting for her to call back so we can talk to her. Even better is that dad is overseas so we'll be getting a taxi - and it's a long ride so it'll cost a fortune! On top of that there's a sunday surcharge at the vets so just getting her looked at with no medication will cost $80 which is like $30 more than normal. :ausb: Then there's meds on top of that. And then even if the regular vet i go to is working tomorrow mum is doing a course and we wouldn't be able to go until after 4:30pm....and what if that's too late. I just knew this would happen one time dad was away, if he had of just come straight home from Japan instead of going to Korea we could've gone tomorrow. And i forgot to mention that Tiki is usually ultra fat, she's now the size of a normal budgie so she's lost a lot of weight. I only just took her and Gherkin out of the breeding cage yesterday because she wasn't interested in breeding! I should've realised that that was unusual and taken her to a vet sooner.
  9. Well that's less than 1/2" so it should be fine. Do any of the local pet shops have any decent cages?

It's a bit out of the way but i think mum may just be heading out that way next weekend or the one after so maybe dad'll go by there too - i might email her asking about what products she actually has, she might not have the budgie ones.

I remember seeing that too but, like you, i've lost the paper!! :(Laughing out loud):

Not sure if anyone's reading this still but Kala has 4 eggs now, maybe a 5th tomorrow and today i took Gherk and Tiki out of the breeding cage and put PB and Asparagus in. From them i should get dominant pied greens and recessive pied greens. :fear

I have blues and greens and currently have two green/blue pairs, in the past i've never had greens and blues attracted to each other.

Today i brought 2kg of Vetafarm Finch/Budgie Crumbles and i only just noticed now that the expiry date is 25th Oct 06!!! That's next week!!! :fear Do you think it will hurt to use it past the expiry date? I will start mixing it in with the aviary budgies seed from now until this bag is used to get rid of it fast but it will probably still last a week or so past the 25th. I only got it in that size because $17 for 2kg at Petbarn seemed better than $15 for 450g at the local pet shops! Petbarn has stopped stocking the smaller bag now for some unknown reason - it used to be 450g for $8 which was really good. Does anyone know where i can buy it online for about that price in the smaller bag? Because i don't want to pay $15 for the little bag ever again, it's just silly. Or does anyone know where i can order Harrisons online that is either in Australia or will ship to Australia.

First things first, don't use the Kaytee pellets - Kaytee uses ethoxyquin in their products which is dangerour for birds. The above quote is taken from This Link I feed Blinkie and Ozzie a mix of seed and pellets and i give them 2 tsp of seed and 1 tsp of pellets EACH (they have a food bowl each). They seem to eat most of it and they aren't overweight so i must be doing something right.
  18. When i get a new bird i don't take it to get vet checked unless i see something that worries me. e.g. when Ozzie's poops were runny the week after we got him.

I find it's usually the hen who eats the eggs - not the male. Could this be possible? And yes, bonded pairs will stress when separated but if they can't hear or see each other they should get over it eventually.
  20. Nobody is having a go at you. If you can't learn from other people then you're going to get offending everytime someone corrects information you've stated or gives their opinion.

Third egg today and she's sitting on them. :bluebudgie:
  22. I don't see how instincts of wild budgies affect our pet budgies, wild budgies haven't even been used in the breeding of pet budgies for a long long time now because i believe it's illegal to remove them from the wild.

Looks female to me too. :bluebudgie:
  24. Cages are designed to encourage climbing, to prevent this would be cruel because budgies climb naturally. A well designed cage won't have strange angles in the bars for toes to get stuck in making climbing safe. If you have a strangely shaped cage or round cage you could come up against problems where bars slant together.
  25. As i explained in my other post a good wing clip doesn't prevent flight. Just makes it safer.
