Well it's great that she survived the night. It's not an easy thing to take care of birds, the more I read the more I am confused.

These sticks are only sold to zoos. I suppose I could make some with pop-sickle sticks. How could I get them to stick without introducing tons of sugar to my birds diet? Any bird cooks out there have any ideas for a recipe.

I am very inexperienced as you know but have done much reading. I have a cat that suffers from enlarged bowel syndrome and the doctor prescribed lactulose. It can be purchased at pharmacy over the counter. Imagine my surprise when many budgie websites gave advice to give lactulose to constipated birds. The only problem is the dose. Also you could try calcivet, I read that a hen that is egg bound absorbs this form of calcium rapidly. It's liquid calcium and some people add a touch of cod liver oil. I have vitamin supplements that have cod liver oil in them but the vet told me not to give them often because of the dose of vitamin d3 in them. I saw some web sites giving this advice. http://www.vetafarm....s/CALCIVET.html I read that you should not give sugars to a bird with mega bacteria. I am not sure weather lactulose counts as a sugar. This stuff saved my cats life. I found an article on budgie constipation. http://www.budgie-care.com/budgie-constipation.html I was reading about the secondary effects of Lactulose and without knowing a proper dose it would be dangerous to use. The website mentions a dose of epsom salts that might work, a ration of one to two hundred.

http://s1055.photobu...299941.mp4.html Allie will promptly destroy the food I put in the cage. After she eats she removes the food dish and throws it to the ground destroys a cuttlebone by biting big chunks off and spitting them to the ground. Any fruit or veggies will be thrown to the ground also. She will scoop food out of the seed cups placed outside the cage till they are nearly empty. It seems like she wants to starve Noah. I finally found something called a seed coral which enrages her because as hard as she tried she could not knock it off the side of the cage. http://s1055.photobucket.com/user/bbbirdie/media/Allienibblesfingers001_zps7c6b2abf.mp4.html You can see the seed coral in the backround with a seed cup she has tried to remove.

My birds are not clipped but when I got them the pet shop had clipped them. One of them fell very hard like a rock to the bottom of the cage. I had to temporarily put him in a cage that was not very deep for fear he might hurt himself. Some birds have had sever injuries to the chest by falling in this manner. It took forever for him to grow wings. In the meanwhile every thump to the bottom of the cage made me jump with panic and go check him. My birds had one clutch and the babies were clipped when they went to their new homes but in a manner that only stopped them from flying up to the curtains. They will not be re clipped in their homes. Apparently this was helpful because at least one baby got loose in between the box and his new cage. Unable to get height she was still a challenge to catch apparently. She is doing fine now and is tamed. Clipping is a touchy subject for some people. I have cats so my birds life, if ever they get loose depends on it. I thought my birds would naturally fear cats but they actually were mesmerized by them at first. Charlie got loose and wanted to go flirt with the cat once and he got out of the bird room but quickly flew away from the cat with rude manners. He landed directly in front of me on the curtains and to my surprise just let me swoop him up and protect him. It was a good thing he was fully winged and I can see why they can out fly hawks. Needless to say Charlie does not like my cat anymore. He also warns the others when she comes into the room, who still seem mesmerized by her obvious charms. If your bird makes it past the door when the children forget it he may run into a cat. My babies went into homes where they had bird rooms. In the end you have to weigh the pros and cons and make a call. The blue siamese is the ones the birds like. They go to the bottom of the cage and socialize with her through the bars.

My budgies all love their swings. They fight over it sometimes and prefer it as a sleeping place. Birds like to destroy things so you have to be careful they can't pull out thread and get it wrapped around a foot. Also that they don't eat thread. Mine only tried this when they were babies and I removed large perches made of thread. However they now have them back and don't try to pull threads out. My budgies like toys with Popsicle sticks in them because they can break them apart easily. (the sticks that look like spoons)
7. Your lucky to have those rachelm. I think they are six million dollar birds, although they are not bionic. Breeding sounds so complex.
8. Phoebes replied to rhiannan's post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
Wow, I didn't know the chicks don't need feeding right away. I only had the one clutch and mom was really really good and stuffing them really full. Sometimes I kinda worried they would burst.
9. I'm in Canada but buy almost everything in the States. The best place I have found so far is Dr Foster and Smith. I like it because there are no surprise fees when the stuff is delivered. They have great baths and bottles, even cages. I got my birds these feeders that stop them from spilling as much seed, it's called a seed coral. I just love these because one of my birds, Allie, is a pro at taking the feeders off the cage and throwing them on the ground, she is bionic. I get vitamins and booster there too. My avian vet sells the same vitamins for twice the price. Like the french say Un fou dans une poche. I can't resist saving money. I forgot to say the most important thing, I've had a stroke so I am a bit of a bird brain, they sell seeds separately so you can make your own mix at home. They also sell Harrison's pellets at half the price my vet sells them. You can get alfalfa there as well, I am ordering some this week, apparently budgies love it. I give them a seed mix that is treated with co2 from my local pet shop. Just an ordinary budgie mix with veggies in it. Then I give them biological broccoli when I can find it. They get canned corn with no additives, no salt. Also I love to grate carrots for them. I have been trying to get them to eat fruit for quite some time and finally some of them tasted apple slices. Allie loves little cherry tomatoes fresh from the garden only though for some reason.
10. This happened to some of my birds when I brought them home. The advice you are getting is great and worked for me. Only one bird did not respond to this and I finally got him a little female that he liked. He had been rejected and attacked by other budgies though. The males can bite other males feet if they are very dominant. He was pretty bad I thought he would die but even he finally snapped out of it. Just wanted to add that the reason the advice is so good is because by covering the cage your not only making it a calmer place but making it a bit warmer. I had used a heating lamp at the appropriate distance from the cage for a while. With a thermometer on the cage. It's good to know the body language of a budgie too. Like a bird that is overheated will slightly hold out his wings. I have seen some pretty good guides online. What you describe is pretty normal and consistent with my experience bring home my babies.

Did you notice if it looked like it has been fed with regularity? Did the crop look full when you looked at the chick?
12. I took a better picture of Allie she has the same cheek patches although smaller than the bird in the video. Here's a picture I found online of a bird similar to my dream budgie but with dark wing markings, they call it a Novaho. Now that is some intense color. I still like the you tube bird from Barbados better because of the wings.
13. Such a lovely list SunshineE. Mine are Charlie, Noah, Allie, Emerald, Loki, and Sunny. But there are so many good names in SunshineE's post.

I didn't even know what those pans were till you posted your question. I looked on other forums and found that some of these saucepans are sold with false labeling. It might be good to know exactly what your dealing with. Some sites talked about concerns for humans with these pans being that aluminum is linked to Alzheimer's. You have asked a very good question. Hopefully someone who has researched this before might come along. Thanks for posting.
15. okay so this is just a theoretical question because I only had one accidental clutch. I fell in love with this bird on you tube. I think he is the prettiest budgie I've ever seen. One of my birds is handicapped and can definitely not breed but this is just theory so. What are this birds mutations. Is he lacewing? Noah Emerald Emerald and Charlie Allie Loki Sunny and Charlie when I first got them.

I have a budgie who has fathered chicks who has a cere like the first. He doesn't have all that white around his nostrils like the second. Noah father of six.
17. That is amazing. I wish I knew as much I would love to build designer budgies. Here is what they would look like.
18. This has got to be one of the hardest votes:I'm so torn Paulie, robyns and budgie lover photos are so beautiful. I vote rachelm as well for the quality of the photo, the beautiful white eggs and the cleanliness of the nest and the originality of choosing a pinky.

Seems fine to me. Many people switch out the bars for ones that are placed in the other direction. This gives the bird a larger flight space between the bars. I did this in my flight cages. My local hardware stores will cut and groove the perches for me when the birds have chewed them too much. The cage in the picture says 30 by 18 by 18.
20. Budgie lover that is my favorite color on budgies. I think that turquoise is amazing. One of my birds has a bit of that on him but it's not quite the same shade. Since I saw a really cute budgie on you tube that had that body color I've been really hoping to find a budgie like him.

Paulie is right, although my budgies are basically wild I had tame budgies as a child. My daughter has one of my birds babies and is making great progress with her. She brought her home when she was about three months old. You just have to be persistent and gentle.
22. Our local pet shop is able to clip the beak because they have much experience with budgies. However I think it would be worth going to a vet with her. She probably didn't get calcium blocks to chew on to trim it. I can't see the beak that well in the photos but if you have good eyesight then you would know if she has tiny pinhead size holes in it. I had a scare recently thinking one of mine had scaly face; it turned out she didn't. You have some lovely birds there! Sorry I'm not good at mutations either.
23. That's an adorable couple! I especially like the colors on the hen. The photos are very pretty.

Some very beautiful birds. I especially love the one that has the color turquoise on her. That is one spectacular color! All beautiful.
