  1. You are lucky I can't imagine having that much cuttlebone for free.
  2. That is one cute budgie.
  3. Sorry about the baby, that is sad.

Hi, I guess we never met. I wasn't here six years ago. There is not much action around here for now because it's not breeding season. Hopefully more people will check in and say hello.
  5. I have only had one clutch and dad stopped having contact with the babies all together after raising them. He runs from his babies male or female. Both parents still aid in raising them. For instance if I can't get a baby into it's cage I let out one of the parents from their cage. The babies still follow mum and especially dad around. He will fly into the cage and fly back and forth inside till he outmaneuvers the baby and flies out with an advance so I can shut the door. I have heard of other people having a dad that has this behavior. My couple was together for quite some time before having a clutch, maybe the key is there. I guess a more experienced breeder would know more about this.
  6. Never seen this before. He is beautiful. Would love to see more pictures.
  7. I still wish I was in Australia. I love summer. I could also see budgies outside.
  8. He seems to like the phone in that picture. He really looks like Charlie's twin there.
  9. You know my daughter just bought a home and they had to have the insulation tested for asbestos. It tested negative. However it made me read up on how many homes are toxic. There is formaldehyde and much other stuff floating around in our homes. We cook in our homes and some have teflon pots and pans. There are so many things to take into consideration.
  10. He sounds like Noah who became a really good father. The only males Noah doesn't dominate are his sons. However I suppose you will make sure the female likes him first. We did have a female that killed all her mates when I was a child. She would do this without ever being seen. We would find them dead in the morning. Finally our vet figured it out. As a child I never knew what injuries they had sustained. It was like she was a midnight ninja breaking their necks or something. They were not bloody or anything. Healthy one minute then gone the next. She was very rare at the time and my father wanted to breed her. He should have stopped after we found the first dead male.
  11. I'm not sure what the cause is but keeping the bird warm helps. Some put a light bulb and monitor the temperature in the cage. Does the bird have any other symptoms and people probably need to know about the diet you feed the bird. Many things can happen as simple as water contamination, lack of vitamins, sun (which can be given in form of vitamin d3) and of course infections of many kinds. Sugar can promote mega bacteria so avoid that.
  12. Is that your bird on your profile picture. He looks like my Charlie. I'm in Canada so just posted to say hi.
  13. I guess it must be warm there still. I think we decorate to make winter shorter. We have hotels made of ice and stuff like that.
  14. I'd love to see pictures of your areas.
  15. I just found something on a website that talks about pigeons. http://www.auspigeon...medicines2.html This is the first time I read about it. http://en.wikipedia....hia_canariensis This fly grows in bird poo and sucks birds blood. I am in Canada and have never seen this perhaps you could check to see if this exists where you live. It seems it affects pigeons but I wonder what it does if it's host is absent. Do you have any news about the bird?
  16. I don't have much experience with budgie illness. I read that parasites that can infect birds climb up grass where they can be injested also was she in contact with any animals like a dog. I found this article on Trich which infects dogs and cats and even humans. http://www.budgiehealth.com/trichomoniasis-and-canker-in-budgies.html Keep us informed it's a good thing she has you to look after her and the hospital cage.
  17. It's a good thing he is not tail bobbing that would mean a lung infection. I've only had one clutch and remember the babies doing this a bit after flying around. I'm not exactly sure what's going on. Obviously when he flies around he is a bit overheated but the underlying cause is obscure. It might be something temporary that passes as he gets older and more in flying shape or something pathological. My little cat had a heart condition as a baby and we could not have her vaccinated at two months. The vet made us wait till she was older. She is the ripe old age of 13 now. I would watch for any other signs of illness for a while. A bird with a weakness is less susceptible to illness when it is in top shape. I'm not a breeder and I've only been at this for two years so hopefully one of them will chime in. I give my birds booster which I am sure has helped them greatly. The idea is if there is an underlying cause we are not aware of to give her a fighting chance.
  18. Is he tail bobbing? He may have some other underlying problem. I am rather new at this so maybe you could get a short film so the breeders can see whats going on. My bird held out her wings and shook them a bit when she was nervous though. If you hide so he can't see you and doesn't know you're watching does he still do it?
  19. This means he is overheated. Does he have access to a bath and what temperature is the room. Maybe you could mist him.
  20. That's about right! Still can't get over his fluffy face, it's like he is a miniature stuffed toy.
  21. They are all really great pics. It would be impossible for me to pick one. The first is so adorable, look at how the little yellow budgie is sitting it makes me laugh every time. I don't even know how to describe that pose.
  22. That's definitely what I want for Christmas! Best photos ever! Great job Rachelm!! Now how to pick omergard!
  23. I would try feeding him millet and little carrots with your hand.

Frank is just adorable, I love the head tilt. Such a lively color of blue too. You have him landing on your arm, that is great! I envy you.
  25. Thanks very much. I didn't know what to make of this.
