Slimy Biofilm
Today when I took down my birds' water bottles there was a slimy bacterial biofilm inside on the rubber stoppers. It's been warmer than usual. I have no idea what kind of germ was brewing in there. I am thinking with this hot weather maybe I need to boil the water first. I heard that boiled water can give a tummy ache because of it's lack of oxygen. I guess I could let it cool down and get a big glass container for the fridge and give it a good shake. How do you all make sure your birds water quality is up to par? Hopefully this will not have a detrimental effect on my birds, fingers crossed. (Everything has been cleaned and rinsed with boiling hot water now)

New Baby Help
I don't think so either. I have a video of my first clutch of eggs as they hatch. When older brother is out of the nest and cracking seed he returns to feed his siblings. Also seems to me like three times a day is not enough feedings. I am not a breeder and my birds were fed by mom. She did feed them way more often. I hope a breeder gets in on the conversation. You have some very young budgies there. Good luck to you, I wish your babies the best.

Your first photo is unbeatable I vote for it.

Sunshine And Violet
I wish I knew what Noah's mutation is. I only know that Charlie is a Greywing. Charlie is the blue one. He has very dark feet now. I have better pictures of Noah on another thread. I am in Canada, and probably in the worst part as far as budgies are concerned. I know there is more choice in budgies about 800 km away. Here it is hard to get any special looking budgie. Hey Phoebes, I cant see Noah very well but he looks dominant pied to me -do you have a better picture? Thanks I'll get my daughter to do some good pictures this week and make a thread. My birds are not nearly as pretty as Violet though.

New Baby Help
Wow, you really have your hands full. I take my hat off to you. Actually sometimes babies do feed other babies. The eldest baby of mine started going back into the nest to feed the younger ones when he was only 40 days old. After that I noticed the elder chicks feeding the youngest ones a few times. This was my first clutch. Does the older baby know how to eat seeds? You might be on to something maybe your elder chick could help introduce the younger one to seed for you.

Your photo's are actually the most clear. Are they part of the vote? Their context is also the cutest.

New Baby Help
Are the birds you want to put together around the same age? From what I understand one is a 23 day old.

Even though this is not a recent post I really enjoyed the photos.

Help! Birdy Drama!
If she gets frantic you have to watch that she is not jumping back and forth on a sandy perch. Once Noah did this when separated from Allie. I didn't think it was dangerous at first till his feet were bloody. I actually sanded down a purple perch that had too much sand on it before I used it again anywhere else. I am not sure what the breeders think about this. I hope you get a better response soon.

Could they take turns being out of the cage?

Funny Pics Of Allen!
Don't you think it's time you move to Canada and breed some lovely birds like him here.

Sunshine And Violet
Awesome photos. I don't know anything about mutations except what one of mine is. Just wanted to say I enjoyed looking at the photos. You have some pretty unique budgies there. It's really too bad I don't see any of those colors here. Love to see more of these guys.

Allie And Noah
As some of you know I had my first clutch recently and they are almost ready to go. It was a bit scary because this was uncharted territory. Allie did lay 7 eggs of which 6 were fertile and hatched. I was worried about her seeming emaciated and exhausted at times. Well both have pulled through fine and fattened up. Here they are. Soon I will have to undertake clipping all my birds nails. I'll let you know how that turns out.

Hi!
Violet is beautiful. I'm not good at sex-ting either. I had a male I called Ruby for a month. His cere was pinkish and he turned out to be a boy, it is now purplish. We don't have any budgies like that in our area for sure. Hope everything goes well for you. Seems like your off to a good start.

I have to agree, that must have been a hard one to get. All it needs is an olive branch in his beak. Good job!

How To Catch The Babies?
Thank you (about the cute budgies). My baby girls are going to my daughters. They are three all white babies. I had a home for two of the boys but someone in the family is ill so I may keep the two extra boys. I am really not keen on pet shops. I don't like that budgies often go to small children who don't change their water. I really hope my budgies don't breed again.

Do You Think Skye Is A Show Budgie?
Skye is a very beautiful bird, Her blue is so intense, she is just adorable. This thread is very interesting. I'm wondering if there is a show budgie thread with photos. Like what is wing criss crossing in images. I would certainly join a club if I could get a few show budgies.

Hopefully if my budgie room project moves along I will get better photos. I would like to add a kind of java tree with a forest background. I think I need to make something so they don't perch above the window, it doesn't make for good photos. My birds are not show birds like the ones I see on this site but they are beautiful to me. If there were birds like this available here I would definitely add some to my flock.

Failure To Thrive?
Sorry my internet is acting up this morning. I posted a response but it hasn't shown up. I was just thinking that budgies really do act like little people with their own likes and dislikes. My budgies probably come from a long line of North American pet shop budgies. I guess people here have them accustomed to broccoli and carrots because those were my budgies preferred foods. Like my babies have all tasted this and will now probably show a liking to this when presented with veggies in their new homes. My males got along all winter than when the females ceres became brown little Noah tried to exterminate Charlie. It's weird because Noah is so tiny I was afraid he would be the guy to get picked on. He has turned out to be the most feared male of the group even though he seems half the size of the others. He produced three all white offspring like your bird and my profile picture (his baby girl). I think you are right about the pesky hormones.

Budgerigar Calendar Competions
This is a picture of Charlie when he was first home. Notice his beak is dry and they had clipped his wings. He kind of looked like an African grey miniature. He is a greywing and his feet are now very dark. I was looking through the photos to see if I had a better one for you but my eyesight makes me take all blurry pics. My daughter takes better photos.
