  1. xDD! Thank you so much I just bounced around the house in joy that I was right and now I have two beautiful little boys. And thanks for the info about the cere, I told dad because we are after more females and it will help him pick them out. Thanks again, Kaz.
  2. okay guys! Today I went out and decided to look at the pet shops around town, and when I saw this little guy I just instantly fell in love. I'm 80% sure it's a boy, it has no white rings around the nose and it's only about three months old and going through it's first molt (it's nose looks just like Dalek's did when he was that age). I am just wondering if I could get your opinions on if it's a boy or girl. Here are two photos of my new little friend (who is already happily chatting to Dalek from the cage we have it in for now).
  3. See I'd love for Dalek to do something like that, but he just doesn't xDD! As soon as he's out of his cage he bounds around my bed, sits on me or up on my curtain rod. He doesn't really like exploring my room that much. Think he's still in his clingy baby stage at the moment. ~!~ I was looking at my camera at the different things I can do and my batteries died O_O! But I will be getting some more next week to work out different shot types and that xD I'm sure he'd love me spending an hour and a half with him mucking around with the camera, he normally does. I have just had all four wisdom teeth ripped out and i'm still feeling really icky and that from it, so I'm sure that it will be a little bit before I get anymore photos up here. I'm glad you guys are loving the photos.
  4. Cheeky that is adorable! I couldn't get Dalek to do that in a million years, even with all our training! xD It's photos like these that make me smile the most, because they are so precious.
  5. Those pictures are awesome! I've always wanted to try something like that with Dalek, but i'm to scared he'll destroy my camera xD! Darn having a cheap camera that isn't immune to budgie bites! ~!~ Okay i'm back again, xD! Even though on Friday i'm getting my four wisdom teeth ripped out (So not looking forward to that!) I decided to get online and post some photos that I have been messing around with. Because of TAFE and a hectic personal life I haven't been able to make stuff that I would like to use for photoshoots with Dalek. But because I know that his training will fail if I don't do it every day, I have just been mucking around with some props and that. To get him to remember his place and what to do. In saying that, here are some of the better photos that have come out of our muck around sessions: This prop is a model of a baby T-Rex head that I started to build and then the newsagent decided to stop getting the magazines in, so this is all i'm left with. xD At least I got all the peices of the skull! It took me about three minutes to get him to sit on the skull, I still haven't found out why it took him so little time to get used to it. BUt I guess he was just in a good mood that day lol. This is the first photo I took with the dinosaur prop, as you can see Dalek is on my finger. The reason he is puffed up is he decided to go to sleep on my finger, xD! So after a few minutes of him snoozing he decided to wake up, have a scratch and then come up with the second photo, which he jumped on to the skull and happily bounded around. ~!~ I took this photo today. He is in front of two framed photos of himself, the special thing about the photos in the background is a couple of people I know through a Doctor Who forum decided to photoshop two photos of him. The one on the right is him sitting on The Doctor's shoulder as a 'pirates parrot' and the one on the left is him wearing a fez. A running joke in the Doctor Who community after The Doctor wore a fez in series five. Again this is another muck around shot I did today. There is a running joke in the forum I participate on for Doctor Who about Tang. No one really knows where it started from, but it's been going for a few topics now. So I decided to show them who had stolen the Tang. I put a few seeds up on the lid and got him to eat it off them, and then by this time my camera batteries were nearly dead so drastic measures were in order. So I picked him up off my hand and plonked him on to the lid and quickly grabbed the photo. And this is what I got. I like this photo more because even though it was taken with flash, you can still see his beautiful colour. Yes I do know he still has the brown spot above his nose, but we are still working on eliminating things to get rid of it. ~!~ Now this last photo was kinda just me mucking around with trying to get a photo of the detail on his back, and it ended up a great shot that I am trying to find a nice frame to put it in. It is a bit fuzzy I know, due to crappiness that is my camera (Though I do love my camera and couldn't live without it xD) In this photo you can actually see the green on his wings, which is beautiful when he stretches his wings right out. You can also see the colour of his back and the amazing detailing on his wings. His brothers and sister were lacewings according to someone that was there when we sold them, so I don't know if he is or if he was the odd one out xDD But there you have it. Some more photos from Dalek and I, including a little snap shot in to my extremly messy room thanks to the last photo. Next time I'll keep my curtains as the back drop lol. I hope you enjoy them and I look forward to bringing you some more in the comming months. :3 ~!~ okay, I thought i'd put these up quickly as well, because they really are the best photoshopped photos I have seen and I thought you might enjoy them xD Then again I think i'm biased because Dalek is in them both lol! And the last one: okay, once again I didn't make these, they were made for use on a forum and also to surprise me by some lovely people who actually know how to use photoshop. I hope to be able to do this one day, when I finaly get around to buying photoshop for my computer lol!
  6. Hey guys! Oh gosh I haven't been on for ages. All I can say is if I see another hospital I am going to scream, which is kinda funny seeing as I'm going to the dental hospital next friday to get some teeth taken out. So you'll hear the scream then LOL. Quick update on Dalek: He is doing fantastic in his new cage which is all set up apart from some natural branches (darn the weather and not being able to get to the farm). But he loves it none the less. Way better then the small purple one I found a dinosaur skull model the other day which is I think about the same size as a baby t-rex's skull that Dalek loves to hop around and play with. So i'm going to use that to my advantage and hopefully set up some photos using the skull and that. So i'll post them up when I get them done. It will probably just be Dalek and the skull, no other props because he has hit his 'terror stage' as i'm calling it. He's gone from a dream budgie to a little demon within the last couple of weeks. But we'll get through it.
  7. Kaz, is there a place in this forum that has a list of what pet shops try and sell you that aren't really needed? Because I would love to read it if there really is one, because my pet shop that I go is forever trying to sell me stuff, and for a teenager who is new to budgies, it is extremely confusing to try and work out what is needed to give the bird the best life, and what isn't needed due to safety issues or it just being a waste of money. And we have the calcium perches in our aviary, but on the floor we also have some logs and that for the quails, which the budgies like to muck around on and also some branches. So it's pretty silly that we have them, I think dad just likes the extra bit of colour they give lol.
  8. Oh my gosh he is beautiful!!! I love the colouring on him. Just wanna pick him up and give him a cuddle and a string of millet lol!!
  9. Thank you both so much. My mum was already planning on getting me to stick down the lids for the food dish, and also to take out the two food dishes that I'm not using so that they don't decide to nest in them. Though it might be slightly funny to see how an earth they would manage it. LOL I'm just waiting for the weather to clear up a bit, because it's raining here at the moment and then i'm going out to my grandparents farm and getting some branches for the cage so that they are natural and will trim his toes and that. Is there any trees that they are not allowed to have? We have gum trees and eucalyptus out at the farm, I was thinking of also putting some eucalyptus leaves in his cage to give him something else to play with. Is that alright for him?
  10. okay, so I decided to take some photos of my brand new cage for Dalek and hopefully his future friends. The first photo is his old cage near the new cage. Now the new cage isn't set up right and still needs to be cleaned before Dalek goes in to it, but I just decided to take these photos today while I made sure it would fit on my desk. LOL Once again, not putting Dalek in it for a few more days until I know that he is fully better. This is the cage by itself: This is the dome roof. I was pretty worried about it until I saw just how big it was LOL. These are two of the four feeding/water dishes. I love the lid on them, because it will stop him from spitting his seed out. LOL I'm not going to use all four food dishes, because he is one of these budgies that eat as long as there is food in the cage and not just because he is hungry. LOL And lastly is the swing in the dome roof that came with the cage. All in all I am so happy with this cage, and I know that Dalek is going to love it. And I also won't have to worry and freak out about him being in a small cage. Which really was a horrible thing for me, to see him in such a small cage. I still need to put his toys in it, and get a few bigger toys, because his are only for his small cage LOL. And I will be using the purple cage as a quarantine cage for the new bird that I decide to get to give Dalek a friend. I have joked with my mum and dad that instead of putting Dalek in there i was going to get a few cockatiles, and their answer is not one that I can write on the internet. LOL! Apparently noisy birds are not something to put in a small cottage style house.
  11. I'm sorry my darling birds that you had to die. I'm sorry that I couldn't stop it in time. I'm sorry you laid on the hard ground of the aviary until we found you today. I'm sorry that you couldn't keep your babies alive, no matter how hard you tried. I'm sorry that I didn't spend as much time with you as I used to. I'm sorry that you had to go. I'm sorry Remus that I didn't take many photos of you, like I did with Zack. I wish i had, for the photo above is the only one I have of your beautiful self. Starcrossed lovers of the budgie world, my darling Remus and Zack. You were my perfect pair and I had hoped to breed a female chick from a clutch of yours with Dalek. Zack you were my first budgie I brought, a beautiful little boy (Who turned in to an amazingly beautiful little girl). I brought you home from the pet shop in this box, You chattered and bounced around the box all through the half an hour journey to get home. My special little bundle, I held on to the box as if it was made of glass and could shatter at any time. I cooed to you in the back seat, much to my parents annoyance, and I was completly over joyed with my new friend. When we put you in the aviary, you were so small compaired to the other birds, my darling little angel. The smallest of the bunch, but with the biggest attitude. Now that i've read up on budgies more, I realised that you had all the signs of a female from the very beginning. How neive I was to think that I was right and you were a boy. You loved your greens, and you were always the first one to grab them as soon as I pushed them through the bars. And then your life changed when you met Remus. My beautiful little yellow faced boy. I brought him home with his friend Padfoot, another yellow faced budgie, and I think that you nearly swooned off the perch when Remus flew up and landed next to you, puffing himself up in all his glory and then grooming himself. I swear you developed a school girl crush right then and there. And as the weeks passed you two became inseperable, where one was, the other always followed. Remus waited on you hand and foot, and even drank water to give to you when you couldn't be bothered flying to the dish. Remus my darling, you were my lovely little boy, reminding me so much of Ianto from my favorite show Torchwood. So loyal to Zack and feircly protective, when we took Zack out to treat for scalyface, you attacked the cage until we let you in with her. *** you flew in the door with out me even needing to catch you. You huddled next to her in that hospital cage and groomed her as she sat sickly on the perch. You chattered at me angrily when i had to put the medicine on her to make her better, and you were always ready with a crop full of seed to welcome her back to the cage when I was done. Even in death you two can't be seperated, and as the soil fell on to your lifeless bodies, I couldn't help but think one sentance over and over again. I'm sorry I failed you my darlings, I'm sorry. RIP Zack and Remus. May you fly together always in heaven. I will miss you, until we meet again one day.
  12. The bar spacing is 10 mm.
  13. I went to look at the cage today and completly fell in love with it. It is absolutely perfect for my space problem and also to give Dalek heaps of room. I'll be putting some photos up after i've moved everything on my desk and set it up. LOL So much for using a desk for school work. It's now taken up by animals. The dome on top of the cage is extremly large and has enough space that Dalek can easily fly in to the swing and then get out again. There are four food containers each with a lid so that the bird can not get out of the hole while you change it. It also came with two wooden perches. It also has a pull out tray for easy cleaning. The only problem that I have found is his toys are going to be to small for this new large cage as they were brought for a small cage. Looks like i'm up for more toys. LOL I'm not even thinking of moving Dalek in to the cage until I know he is 100% healthy again because I don't want him to stress about moving cage and that. At the moment he's still a little sluggish and has a slight touch of the runs which is clearing up. He hasn't lost his appatite much to my relief and he is also still chattering to his bell. I'll give him a few more days before I decide if it's safe to move him. For now he'll stay in his purple cage.
  14. Hey everyone. My mum found me a cage today that I am going down to look at tomorrow for Dalek. It is four times bigger then the cage I have him now and is small enough to still fit in my room, Because I have a very small room and space to have Dalek, I can't actually have a rectangle cage, so the extra room has to be made up in height. To buy the cage is going to cost me nearly $65 a huge amount of money to a student with out a job living in the country. The problem is the cage is like this one: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pnX4lVTOOmk/S3P-sbe4KWI/AAAAAAAAAdk/B4hzmW3D62Q/s320/Canary-Cage.jpg (please ignore the fact it says canary cage I promise the cage i'm getting is huge LOL) The thing i'm worried about is the dome in the roof. They have a perch coming down from the roof to take up the dome so the birds can't hit themselves on it. BUt i'm still worried that it will hurt him. The space that it has is just amazing compared to the small purple cage he is in at the moment. (See my other post on this topic to see the cage if you would like.) I don't have the mesurments because my parents couldn't get them because the shop assistant didn't know. The reason I am wondering is because I am going down tomorrow, they only have one left and i'm not going to be down in the shopping area for another week after tomororw due to Easter and that. Do you guys think it would still be worth it even with the dome in the roof?
  15. Oh he is a beautiful boy! I love the colouring.
  16. Teehee! Yep, he's very versitile! xDD I made sure that he didn't eat any of the chocolate, it didn't even phase him to have it in his food bowl. I left enough room between the egg and the edge of the bowl so that he could easily eat the seed with out touching the egg to make sure that he didn't eat anything bad. Though towards the end of the photos he decided that the bunny was now his. So was proudly sitting on it grooming the bow and the bunny's arm. And chocolate may be bad for humans, but man it is yummy. Thank you Kaz. As you can see in this photo, the back half of the bowl was free of eggs, so that he could get to the seed. I was doing my best with placement of the camera to make it look like it was complelty filled with chocolate, but I slipped up in this one. LOL Next ones are going to take me some time because i'm going to be building a mini city for him to trample through. LOL So I'd say sometime next month they should be up. I'll probably take some photos of the city's progress to show you guys and put them up. Thinking of some sky scrapers made from tissue boxes and some cars made from toilet rolls and bottle caps. Just like we used to make in Primary School art class.
  17. So everyone, I introduce my Easter Photos. My props were an easter bunny I got last year, some chocolate eggs still in their wrappers and Dalek's food dish filled with seed. okay, so because the way the photo was styled changed so much, I only have photos of the last shot I did. Because other wise we'd be here all night. LOL It took me about half an hour to do it, because once again Dalek was a dream. This is him between takes. He just needed a rest so took up his spot on his play gym. ~!~ I was happy with this shot, until I realised I had cut him in half. This is the first time it's ever happened to me, and i'm still giggling about it. xDD ~!~ As soon as I hit the button to take the photo, he decided that his food was more interesting. This shot is kinda cool because it is like he's looking in at the eggs. ~!~ I love this photo because he was the one that decided to climb on to the bunny and looked at the camera. It's really pretty and i'm having trouble picking between this photo or the photo below. Think i'll stick with the one above. ~!~ Well I hope you have enjoyed my Easter photos as much as I have making them. And I highly recommend doing staged photography to everyone, because it really is the funnest thing to do. And you feel the greatest amount of pride towards yourself and your pet when it is over and you can look at the product of your hard work and patience.
  18. Yep, that's a beautiful little bouncy boy. Lovely colours from what I can see from the photos.
  19. Welcome to the forum.
  20. Phew, got everythin I need for my Easter photo, so I'll be doing that tonight and hopefully have the photos up tonight as well.
  21. They also make (And try very hard to get customers to buy them) Perch covers - that actually is nothing more than a piece of sand paper that goes over top of a dowel perch- Don't buy those either- its the same thing as the Sand paper sheets they sell for the bottom of the cage and those stupid "mite protectors" I really wish they'd be outlawed I see so many cages with them on there when people post pics of their birds on line I spend a lot of my time messaging them (specially when i find them on craigs list) explaining how those things are actually toxic to the birds and have been known to be the cause to kill them. Yeah, they've already tried to make me buy the perch covers. I ran my finger along it and my finger actually got cut a little and I was like 'Right, if it does that to my finger, what the *** do you think it's gonna do to my budgies feet?!' And the woman looked at me and just sighed. I was completly shocked that they would try and sell me something like that! I just stick with the plastic perch my cage came with, because I am getting a new cage hopefully tomorrow, it's a huge one and when I get it, i'll be sure to change the perches to some wood ones like the ones in our aviary. What about those calcium perches? What are they like for their feet?
  22. Oh gosh, haven't been on here in a while. LOL Just to let everyone know, Dalek is happily sitting on newspaper on the bottom of his cage. He loves to run around it to make it crinkle and rip the corners up when I don't put them down flat enough to keep him away from them. Thank you so much for telling me about the dangers of sand sheets, and i'm sure to tell any of my friends not to get them if they buy budgies. I have also started to only buy what I need from the pet shops and ignore their suggestions for things that I don't need. Such as one of those darn bird snuggies!
  23. I can't help with the colours. But oh my goat the second one is so beautiful! With the yellow feathers and that, I just want to pick him up and snug him! Sorry to hear about the loss of your other babies, I hope that these ones survive and grow up to be strong.
  24. I could probably borrow some of my brothers lego men. He has everything from Star Wars to Harry Potter. LOL The last stand of the Storm Troopers and Dumbledore as the budgie advances. xD I just remembered what you said about your budgie's vocab getting bigger. A staged photo for you could be a small picket fence lying next to your budgie with 'More millet!' written on it, and some millet seed all around him and a box tipped over, as if he tipped it over in a protest. This would be a great way to start, because he would be distracted by the food. It might take some time to get the photo, but it is always worth it from the pride you feel for yourself and your little friend.
  25. Oh my goat that idea is awesome!! I'll have to wait till my brothers go back to school and raid their room to find some. If not I'll just buy a small packet of them, sure my brothers wouldn't mind some more toys to play with. xD I think it would be even cooler with a cardboard base for him to stand on made up to look like a battle feild. I could even use some toilet rolls cut in half for 'barracks'. Mum just told me to make a mini town and have him being a giant raging bird. LOL So many great ideas coming from everywhere, looks like Dalek and I have a long road of staged photography ahead of us. I was even thinking I might see if anyone would be interested in buying some at the local market maybe one day.
