Hi i found the thread about leg rings last night and i got me wondering about a few of my birds with them.When i bought my birds i mentioned i wanted them for breeding so imagine my dismay when i discovered they have Blue leg rings which age them at 2004 which is too old for breeding.The leg rings Charlie and Lightining have are an Electric Blue as opposed to a light blue or dark blue is this the correct colour for 2004? Thanks everyone for answering as of yet she still hasn't laid anything,i'm keeping a close eye on her but trying not to be to obvious,she keeps scratching around on the floor of the cage and chewing up the newspaper.I've been feeding her egg and biscuit and vegies hopefully she'll be o.k. Libby.

Hi All,today we went to our bird shop for a visit and my birdman showed me some new stock he received yesteray.Well one of the hens had a noticeable egg bum so i purchased her and her bonded male.I have placed them in a breeding cage and she has checked out the nestbox I'm just wondering how long before she should lay the egg? Hi Kaz they are currently in an avairy,but i didn't get offered that ,will ask when i pick the birds up. Releasing them seems a really cruel thing to do, that's why i'm taking them.Mind you i'm really excited about getting them their lose is my gain :budgiedance:

Hi i'm adopting approx 12 new budgies sometime next week and i need to get some cages to quarantine them in,What would be good sizes to house them in? I'm hoping to be able to borrow some cages. My aviary currently holds 8 budgies it's 6ftH x 4ftW x 6ftL would adding 12 more be overcrowding? Thanks Libby

My mum gave me her baby quail to look after until i can get it to my local birdman tomorrow hopefully.It is only two weeks old and the parents have been neglecting it at the moment i have it in my bathroom under a heat light and have given it Passwell handrearing mix and some water i'm not sure what i should be doing so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Libby

Thanks for replying so fast Kaz,I've had her about 6 months now and when i bought her i told my bird man that i wanted an older hen, i'll double check her eyes tomorrow, if she has the iris ring i asume she's okay to breed? Libby

Hi Everyone, I noticed today that my budgie violet's cere has started to turn brown she is bonded with indy and they preen and he feeds her constantly My questions are is her cere brown enough for breeding? or should i wait for it to get browner before transfering them to the breeding cage?
