  1. This week was meant to be the week that I put my budgie plan into motion (got permission from the apartment where I live, got a cage etc.) but I ended up having to work for someone who was sick so yet again I am budgie-less! Set to work on making my first set of toys today, though Went shopping around Canberra... do you believe that NOWHERE sells those pony beads? I have to buy some online, so while I wait.... here is what I managed to construct: Those shiny bits of white light at the bottom are bells.... I'm still getting used to my new camera! I found these awesome plastic clips to use instead of those metal 'pear clip' things -----> Bought a ladder and added some things to chew on ----> A toy I bought that I decided needed to be tidied up a bit. I ended up adding the bell back on as well but didn't take a photo. ----- Let's hope that the next week or so will see them being put to use after I finally get my budgie! This is taking ages! I must be the only person in the world who has spent 2 months thinking about getting a budgie... especially when you consider how often they are impulsively bought by people! AAAAAH
  2. I ended up buying some wooden blocks (coloured and plain), coloured paddlepop sticks and other stuff that's very similar to above, but from a brand that had a contact address listed on the back. I sent them an e-mail to ask what the wood & colouring was, so when I get a reply I'll let you guys know
  3. How big is the biggest version? Do you have any pics? I'm still trying to find a nice big cage
  4. As far as size goes, that looks like a fantastic cage! And a good price too. May I ask where you found it?
  5. Wow, I've kind of gone a bit crazy with starting new topics the last few days, apologies! Blame university holidays and lots of time off from work! My question is: What do you all use to disinfect a cage? The reason I ask is I've found a bargain second hand cage in my area.... I really wasn't even thinking of getting a second hand cage but it is a great model and really cheap. If I were to buy it I would want to NUKE it completely with disinfectant, in case the previous owners had passed away from any nasty diseases :laughter: Thanks everyone, I promise I'll stop going crazy with the forum posts once university goes back
  6. Is she already a member on here? I swear I've seen a member here talking about their birds with exactly the same names.... That said, some budgie names are bound to be common

Thanks for your quick replies, last night I went through almost the entire Safety section of the forum, and realised that budgies can die for the silliest reasons sometimes It's made me think twice about almost everything, so rest assured the members will be getting lots of annoying/pointless questions from me! KAZ and Ratzy: Do either of you use playgyms for your budgies? What are some things to be careful about?

hello again ^_________________^ I'm going to buy some toys from eBay this week and wanted to see if anyone here had any safety concerns about the specific ones I'm getting. Budgie Swing with lots of coloured beads, pacifiers and mineral blocks threaded onto wire. Finished off with 2 coloured bells. Hangs from a length of NP chain and attaches easily to cage with pear link included. Lots of 1/2" x 3" vegetable dyed wood blocks strung along nickle plated chain with three pieces of bright coloured plastic chain. Lots of coloured wood beads and wood slats hang from the bridge to form a fun place for clowning around with the flock! Pear links on each end support this toy so that it can be hung from the cage horizontally. This toy is approx. 50cm long (or wide when hung horizontally) Bird safe shreddable ball stuffed with ribbon and sisal rope. Use as is or stuff with your birds favourite treats in the opening in the ball. Each protruding paper ribbon is up to 12" long. Can anyone recommend a good playgym to me as well? Thanks. On another note: if I posted a thread with photos of my new apartment, would any of the members be interested in analysing it for safety risks to a budgie? I realize that is totally obsessive but I've just moved in and there are a bunch of things in this apartment that I am uncertain about.
  9. Haha and here I was almost about to resort to buying a budgie from that very chain of stores. I DON'T THINK SOOOOO! Not even going to get toys from there. How embarrassing for them!

..... I've just looked through THE ENTIRE Budgie Safety section of the forum (!!!!) and found this quote from almost six years ago. Waaaaah !!
  11. Cute! You should definitely post some pics of the toys, or your budgies enjoying the toys
  12. Sunday morning for me = working all day! Damn retail jobs. I don't think I've had a Sunday off (not counting when I'm ill) since I was 16, back before I got jobs in hospitality, retail etc.! I envy everyone who is spending their Sunday at home relaxing I'm on my break now just squeezing in some budgie forum time before I have to start working again!!!!

Hi everyone I just found this thread and think it's a really good idea. I've enjoyed seeing what everyone else here looks like so I thought it is only fair that I share some pics of me. So here is what I look like! One of the only photos of myself that I could find where I am smiling!!!! I am on the left. This was taken the night of my 20th birthday (Jan 13) so I am extra happy because I got shouted food and drinks all of that day me thinking I am cool & another picture. Looking unimpressed because I was trying to take a nice picture of my partner & I and he kept pulling faces :budgiedance:
  14. I think she's talking about frogs being loud in her neighborhood.... but the way that post is written makes it really hard to figure out what she's talking about. Am I right, renee? Frogs? Or loud people? Or like.... loud birds? It's really unclear.
  15. what a gorgeous baby budgie !!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are very lucky
  16. Yeah that's the stance I'm taking. Was hoping for more responses as to whether anyone had seen them before Really? I had no idea that some bells were made of dodgy stuff. What about them can be dangerous?
  17. That's amazing! I wonder how you did it..... does your camera have a super-fast shutter speed? or were you taking lots and lots of photos and this just happened? Either way, what a cutie!
  18. Hi everyone I went on a raid to my nearest discount store looking for bits and pieces to make budgie toys from, and oh what treasures did I find! I just have one question for the members: I found these in there, they look like they could be great for toys, but being a cheapo/mass produced $2 item, it doesn't list what kind of wood has been used. What do you guys think? Are they too dangerous because they've been treated with colour? Of course I'm not going to risk it unless someone has found the exact same product and used it with no bad outcomes, so.... has anyone seen these or have any idea what they're made from? Thank youuuuuu Oh, and check out these sweet bead guys I found as well:
  19. How gorgeous he was! R.I.P. Buzby, and I agree with renee, his age seems to be testament to how well you looked after him :hap:
  20. It's true, you really never know who will see your photos and re-upload them somewhere else I guess the only real way to fight it is to watermark your images by putting your name or trademark as text across it. But I can see how it will tarnish the cuteness of budgie pics

I am sorry to hear of your loss, but it sounded like you gave him a great life R.I.P. gorgeous bird
  22. I'd be interested to know if you got a reply about the bar spacing on that cage, it looks like a nice one I'm in the process of finding a cage for my new apartment...
  23. Oh, Hello Edie .... ummm I mean ultra0x :emoticon112: *ultrav0x and, shhh!
