What Sex Is Yoshi?
So confusing!!! I've been calling Yoshi he/she/boy/girl all day, not knowing which is right but not wanting to just say 'it.' Haha! Those pics were taken without flash, I'm too scared to use the flash on the camera on the poor guy/girl's first day at home! Here are some more, though I doubt they'll help because they're from that same photo session/lighting setup. If this is one of those "time will tell" situations, how much longer until the cere will show the sex? I'm not sure how old Yoshi is because he/she is not from a breeder, and I am clueless with guessing those kind of things.

My Cage Setup
Thanks for your reply! The tricky thing about this cage is that those feed containers are built in to the cage (there's a better picture of one just at the top of this thread). So I'd have to replace them with ones that sit exactly in that gap, or risk having an escapee from the cage! The seed part sits outside the cage, though, so I think I will be okay because the only bit that's in the.... 'firing line' will be the part the bird stands on... so I'll just keep a close eye on that to clean  ?

My Cage Setup
Here is what the cage looks like now after re-arranging things and adding some natural perches millet (OM NOM NOM) and foot toys.... do budgies use foot toys? I thought maybe the little guy could kick these around and make some noise  I know that the perch on the VERY top right is a bit too thin, going to scout around for some more tomorrow until my Mum brings some fresh ones & eucalypt leaves from their farm Can everyone please give me some feedback? Anything I need to change?

!budgie Artwork!
I am sure she could get away with selling them herself through small outlets like clubs and among her friends, but yeah... if you were to do the selling over eBay or something like that then you might get in trouble. Did she mention that she bought the bag already with the budgie drawn on?

!budgie Artwork!
I have this bag! And so do lots of people from university. It costs $2 from xxxxxxxx with just the black design. Is that where she bought it from? It might be a good way for her to make some money (buy lots that cheap and then resell them painted like that?) Although I don't know if this is allowed, as xxxxxxxxx have likely claimed the image as theirs (I also have it on a purple t-shirt from xxxxxxxxx !!!)

Hahahaha I know! The videos were attached to a post from the owner who was expressing concern at the bird's 'questioning of his authority' Such an intelligent little guy

My Cage Setup
Yeah, just ignore the perch setup at the moment! The cage only came with two (??????) and I won't use them when I get the eucalyptus branches tomorrow. I remember reading somewhere that it's good to have the branches upside down. Why is this? What do you mean by upside down Maybe its about any thin sticks still on the branches. If the budgie has alegring thin branches will get caught on a legring sometimes That sounds about right. I'm adding the natural perches in today with some leaves so in the next few hours I'll have some more photos. The cage looks so small in that picture! Maybe I'll get my partner (who is 6ft tall!) to stand next to it for scale

My Cage Setup
hi everyone after being given the okay by the people at my apartment building to have a budgie last week I went and bought my cage I know it's not the most ideal model, but it was the best one by far in my area. I had my poor boyfriend driving around to at least 5 pet stores! This was the biggest and widest one I could find. I've seen pictures of this cage before, or at least similar designs to it, and realise that it is much too tall instead of being wide. I'm not sure that this picture does it justice, on the coffee table it is almost as tall as I am! I'm hoping to arrange the branches and perches so that the bird will have maximum area to fly around Can anyone suggest clever ways to position things so that the budgie can use all the space? I was wondering if you guys can give me feedback? Too many toys? Bad placement? What's the best way I can organise my branches around when I get them? I'm getting lots of eucalyptus branches tomorrow when my Mum visits from her farm so I won't be using those dowel ones. Here are some more pics: These plastic feeders came with the cage, and they fit into a big gap in it. There are 4 overall. I remember reading something about a budgie getting his foot caught in a model like this? Can anyone confirm that? If yes there is no way I will use them, but need suggestions for alternatives because when I remove them there is a big gap in the cage

Found these two videos on a parrot forum I'm also a member of. The owner is trying to train his parrot to eventually be fitted to a harness, and the first step is getting him to raise his wing on command. Thought I would share these videos with the community here because they're really sweet and funny :grouphug: *edit* not sure I can embed the two videos, so here are the links: and then Hehehehehehe, clever bird!

That sounds really sweet it's not like they're unhappy or anything! Maybe you could tie a little bell to the bottom of the chain with some rope? or one of those rattley ball things in the pics above? They're easy to find as cat toys. Maybe your birds will like noisy toys

If there's one thing that this forum has taught me it seems to be that you should never listen to pet shop workers! So many of them have no idea what they're talking about I guess it's important to remember budgies are individuals and have different tastes. Maybe you could do something to the plastic chain to make your budgies like it? I don't know what kind of chain you're talking about (do you have a picture?) but maybe you could weave something through it or attach some beads or things that your budgies like? KAZ, do you mean just add the pictures onto the end of that pinned thread? I can do that if you'd like, I just thought putting them all on this would be a good way of showing what I'd made and if it worked or not

Thanks KAZ but I managed to find some really cheap ones on eBay. For the record, I checked: Hot Dollar Reject Shop Top Bargain (all are those two dollar shop things that are popping up everywhere) Big W Target Eckersleys (craft store) Lincraft ... and no luck!
