I am on the Central Coast, NSW (more specifically Morisset) I found this beauty on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270652836015&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en#ht_500wt_1156 Its exactly what I've been looking for in terms of an aviary. I can easily make a divider inside to have a birdroom and aviary. I will be watching this one like a hawk

That second link would be perfect...its a shame its in Queensland :/ I'll just have to keep my eyes out and see what I can find

Whoops sorry about that All fixed I came across a classified in another local paper today (while trying to find the ad corka mentioned) for 2 aviaries for sale. One is 1700H x 1200W x 600D and the other is 1800H x 800W x 800D. It is advertised that they want both for $130 Thats all i need to start I'm going to give them a call tomorrow

Unfortunately Corka I don't get the express. Seems I'm just outside that area. Do you think you could take a photo or scan of the ad and post it up?

I made a visit to a guy that specialises in custom made sheds and aviaries. I gave him a rough drawing of what I wanted. My idea is a 2.3m x 2.3m aviary with a door on one side, a partition inside with a door in the partition (made of wire) and the other side having top half wire around front and side. So its basically a birdroom and aviary in one. He rang me this morning with a quote of $2450 with a double roof ($2200 without) including the slab of cement. Considering the points that have been made on converting a shed...is this a reasonable price for me to aim for?
  6. Okie Dokie Thanks Kaz The recessive hen came from the same aviary as the blue cock and blue recessive hen. No other bird in the aviary (and in the other two joined to hers) had this problem. The owners were absolutely baffled They treated all of the birds they gave me with ivermectin before i left. She's a green ringer so could it be because of age?
  7. Right, so a males stays pink even in breeding condition? cool Also Kaz what would be your opinion on Raspuschias' lack of feather under her wing (around her neck too, little baldy lol)
  8. Really I have posted Bulas' picture so many times on here and was told he was male XD Also I had the flash on while i was taking these, as my natural light had disappeared behind the house This is a natural light one that was taken in May, and has not really changed since (maybe a few subtle shades but nothing drastic) Really, i would just like to know how you tell with a recessive pied cock
  9. I'd really like to know how to tell recessive pied cocks. They are like the oddity with their cere colours lol I kind of figured the first female was out...but i wanted to be sure

I got a wonderful suggestion from Splat about converting a shed to an aviary rather than buying an aviary. After looking around I found that buying an aviary (even a small size) would cost me alot of money which i don't have. A shed is alot cheaper for a bigger size. Is there anyone out there who has converted a shed to an aviary? If so, how hard is it to do? My plan is to get a wide shed (about 2.5m) and keep half of it as a birdroom with the other half being a aviary. I ask so many questions But I don't want to drag my parents (mainly my handy dad) into building the whole thing for me. I would like to have a go.
  11. Hi

Hi Georgie Welcome to the forum. Can't wait to see some pictures of your birds
  12. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if these birds are in breeding condition or not...particularly with my recessive pied cock I was also lucky enough to get a picture of raspuschia (the last one) while she was stretching her wings. You can see the feather loss underneath. Does anyone have any opinions on that? Thanks in advance
  13. I can't wait to see what the babies look like Rachelm Do double-yoker eggs survive till hatching? Is it like twins?
  14. Maddy replied to Maddy's topic in New to BBC
Well I figured it out and Vinaka is the same age as Doormat. So hopefully, I'll get me some babies from the opaline/Rec pair and one of them can be her buddy Until then though, I'll be her flock.

I did, but believe it or not the only other female cull bird they had was a recessive pied that was too old But both Pie and Doormat are blue ringers, so there is plenty of breeding time left in them

Hey all! I'm back with my budgies after a long hiatus. College got very busy and I needed to take a break from the internet. But I'm in my last two weeks now, with all of my assignments being handed in this week or the next, so my brain has turned back to budgies I am now a full member of the Central Coast Budgerigar Society and one of the other members there was very kind to give me some of their cull birds so that I can start breeding. This has rasied the number of my flock from 2 to 7 Here are some pictures: This is Bula's new girlfriend, a olive green recessive pied. The size difference between them was funny when i put Bula in there with her that I name her Raspuschia (from the movie 'Norbert') She has a strange problem of not having any feathers under her wing or around her neck. But none of her siblings have this problem, so its not hereditary. Her breeders have no idea why she's like this, but no one wanted her because of it. So I gave her a home These two don't have names yet. We got the Opaline cobalt cock on the right, and a Sky blue recessive hen on the left. The hens parents were both recessive greens, and the cocks parents a cobalt pied and yellow face opaline cobalt, so the outcome for this pair should be interesting This boy is my favourite. He's a beautiful yellow face pied cock. His brothers are apparently champion birds. His name is vomity pie. The reason for this being that when I brought him home and said he was a dominant pied to my family, my little brother thought i had said vomity pie. So that stuck as his name This is vomity pie's girlfriend, a normal sky hen. I paired her with pie because her parents were an cobalt opaline and normal cobalt, so I should get some lovely babies out of them. She's only five months old however, so a nest box will not be attached to their cage for a while Her name is Doormat, because when I first put Pie in with her (while I was picking birds) he got all excited and sat on her face, and she just took it lol I'm planning on pairing pie's and the opaline cobalt cocks babies to each other in the future and hopefully get some more yellow faces. I gotta say, I'm in love with pie and I really want to get more babies like him. If anyone has some tips on how I can do this, please let me know And thats my flock as it is right now.
  17. :rip:  so sorry Ratzy, you did your best  :rip: Did you enquire about him back at the pet shop?
  18. Sorry Craig B, you fell into the same trap I did lol Male recessive pieds keep a purple/pinky coloured cere throughout their whole life...I only wish I knew that when I got my budgie. He's gorgeous though (Spangle, Opaline, recessive pied?)
  19. It is the same bird...but its hard to go by feather colour in that one as it was in the afternoon and thats the time of day that the sun comes through my window and hits my pink curtains (thats why this picture is more pinkish)
  20. Is he a longneck turtle? I remember always finding those things on the road, because we lived near a creek, and 99% of the time they would of had a cracked shell from getting run over. They're tough little critters. Just, uhhh, don't shake them like my grandfather used to......that causes them to demonstrate their defensive mechanism lol Love that middle photo, it looks like he's smiling
  21. Hmmm, I might go I haven't been to an auction before
  22. Same, Dave. I was duped into thinking that my recessive was a baby :bliss:
  23. Alright, I'll neaten them up this afternoon Thanks Dean
  24. There is always the chance that the cat will step around the traps. There is a wonderful product you can buy called "Keep Off". Its a dog and cat repellent. I used it on my own cat once because it would always go to the bathroom in my neighbours yard, and my neighbour was starting to set giant rat traps (the inhumane kind) with cat food as bait. I think most vets sell it. Here is the site http://www.multicrop.com.au/KeepOff.htm
  25. I just looked at the thread name  Its a shame its not in use, I really like it. I like how its just a big aviary with the breeding cages inisde it. Its clever
